Out of School Hours Care
Due to increasing demand for ‘Before School Care’ to be available earlier than 7:00am School Council, after much discussion, supported an earlier opening time of 6:30am. Key considerations included a ‘Duty of Care’ to students and that students can not be left at the service until the agreed opening time.
A summary of homework survey results was presented. Key
points raised in the survey included:
72% of families believe students should have regular home-work
30% believe homework should begin at Prep
80% prefer paper based homework
Homework should ‘help learning’ and consist of:
Reading activities /Activities that reinforce class work
Spelling / Maths
Activities that families can participate in together
Homework assists students to develop organisation skills
Homework should ‘increase’ through each level of the school, starting with a focus on Reading in the lower grades
We need to be aware of the stresses that homework can place on families
A draft policy is now being developed and will be shared for further comment when completed.
Our Building Project, including a Multi-purpose / Performing Arts Space, new school entrance on McEwen Drive, reconfigured office area as well as general maintenance is underway. Due to the approval process and budget constraints plans were being adjusted right up until the last minute. As stated earlier copies of the final plans will be dis-played around the school and on the school website when they are made available to us by the architect. Following our site meeting on Tuesday we will provide a general time line in next week’s newsletter.
Invitations to our Father’s Day Breakfast on Friday 1st September have been sent home. The morning’s activities include:
7:45 – 8:30am Breakfast
8:15 – 9:00am Classrooms open for visits
If you would like to attend our special breakfast, which includes 1 bacon & egg roll per person, cereal, fruit juice and tea or coffee, please complete and return your RSVP along with payment by TOMORROW, Friday 25th August 2017. On Wednesday Kael, Nathan, Lachie and myself visited the Goonawarra Nursing Home. We visited low and high care areas. Low care was a lot more fun because we played a game called carpet bowls and ate afternoon tea with them. Before we ate afternoon tea we handed out the stress balls—it was a very cool place. Then Paul, who was looking after us took us up a corridor and into the high care area. It had a completely different vibe. We could only hand out a few stress balls to people. In the end I think more staff had stress balls than the old people did. Riley Dracchio.

Weekly recap
Last week at Before and After School care we had card week. The children were really looking forward to this week and thank you to Alexia.C and Ame-lia.M for helping to organise the week! We started the week with a big group game of snap which turned into a tournament and of course Josh.C won. Then we played a speed tournament, we are still waiting to see who wins out of Matil-da.W and Josh.C. We also played UNO and spent the entire time laughing and we learnt a new game called French snap which in-volves knowing your friends of ten and is super fun! We ended our week with a game of Go Fish using themed cards rather then normal playing cards which made the game a lot more exciting! Stay tuned for our next big adventure! Sarah, Team Leader
