Souled Out On Wednesday Nights Wednesdays @ 7pm

There is no other place that JR HI and SR HI students should be every Wednesday night

because that’s when Souled Out is happening! JR HI meets in the teen room while the SR

HI gather up in the Fireside Room. Each week is another opportunity to build

relationships with each other and with the God who not only made us, but loves us so

much! It is a place for friends to come and explore what life can be like when we live it Jesus’ way. Each night can

have some crazy fun games, some food, a time where we try to put together real pieces of our lives (the things we

wonder about, struggle with, and need to learn more about) and

bring them before the God who is writing our story each and every

day. Don’t miss a single week!

JR/SR HI ~ Capture The Flag/Mafia Night Saturday, November 12 @ 7-10pm,

All JR & SR HI students and their friends are invited to enjoy a

night of Mafia (Capture the Flag), here at Bethany. And here’s the

best part … it won’t cost you or your friends a penny! It’s FREE! It’s

gonna be a great night of fun! Be there!

JR/SR HI ~ Christmas Party Wednesday, December 14 @ 7pm

Hey all JR & SR HI students…Christmas is coming!! That means

Souled Out will be celebrating by throwing a party in each group!

Mark the date down: There will be some fun games, food, a prize or

two, and a few surprises! Don’t miss it!

SR HI ~ New Year’s Eve ALL DAYER Saturday, December 31 @ 2pm-12:30am

That’s right … the SR HI will not be staying up all night this year because New Year’s Eve is on a Saturday. Since

church is the next day, we will be starting our celebration at 2pm and ending at 12:30am Sunday, after the ball

drops. It’s going to be a great time! All you can eat pizza, pop, snacks, Mike’s messy games (think old school

Nickelodeon but without the big budget), Capture the Flag, an off site activity, a big screen movie, and much more--

all to bring in the New Year in style. You don’t want to miss this! Cost is just $12. Turn money in to Robyn Miller to

get on the list. Deadline is Wednesday, December 28.

Mark Your Calendars Make sure to write these future events down on your calendars because you won’t want to miss them. This year’s

winter retreat for all JR & SR HI students at Camp Barakel will be on February 3-5, 2017. JR HI will be on one side

of the camp and SR HI on the other. Winter Jam 2017 was just announced! It will be on Saturday, Feb 11, at the

Palace of Auburn Hills. We'll be announcing the All Night Event very soon, most likely sometime in March. And hey,

even though it’s still a few months away, all current 8th graders and up through college can write down the Alive

Festival dates for July 18-23, 2017. Lots of great stuff coming down the road! Get involved!

Souled Out Online If you are looking for information about Souled Out and the events that we are doing, you’ve got two great

sources: Facebook and the church’s website. While there may be several down sides to Facebook, one of the good

things about it is that it allows us to quickly get detailed information out to everyone about upcoming events. That

same information will always be placed on our church website as well for those of you who do not have Facebook

accounts. The Facebook address is https://www.facebook.com/SouledOutBBC and the website address is http://

connect2bethany.org/#/connectbethany/teens. We also have an Instagram page. Just search for “souledout4.6”

to find it.

Missionary of the week, November 2016

Nov 6 Rick & Christy Gascho - live in Prague, Czech Republic where they are active in church planting in Prague, as well as oversee and coordinate church planting missionaries in four additional Czech churches. They feel like they are reproducing themselves and investing in the upcoming generation of church planters. The Gauchos have two children in college (Rich III & Megan), and two at home (Josiah & Rebecca).

Nov 13 Cork & Joan Loken - are retired and living in Alexandria, Louisiana, where Cork ministers

with his trombone in nursing homes and is discipling a new believer. Joan corrects Bible correspondence lessons for eight prisoners. They have just taken on a new assignment as Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for abused or neglected children, where they are currently working with four children, who are all from the same family. Cork is ordering a new radio tower to replace one that is 50+ years old in Liberia and is planning to travel there as a ROYALL (Retiree On Another Labor of Love) to help install it.

Nov 20 Dan & Sherri Murphy – are busy in several ministries in Newcastle West, Ireland, including

church planting, preaching, teaching, disciple-making, children’s club, evangelism, fair evangelism, and fostering children. They organize and run two Bible School’s each year, one at Easter and the other in the summer.

Nov 27 Shirley Chumley – spent many years in mission work in the Congo, Comoro Islands, and

England. She is now retired and living right here in Clinton Township where she is teaching two Bible Studies, as well as, ELL (English Language Learners). Shirley asks prayer for her health, so she can continue in these ministries.

SPOTLIGHT ON MISSIONS

Bethany’s Mission Team Goal

… to equip and enable members and friends of Bethany to be personally involved in obeying the Great Commission

… to provide a support system for our missions families who are following the Lord in reaching out into the world.

International Day Of Prayer 2016: Sorrow and Triumph November 13

“If one member suffers, we all suffer together, if one member is honored, all rejoice together.” I Corinthians 12:26

On Sunday, November 13th, Bethany will be observing the

International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church. Hebrews 13:3

commands us to “Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow

prisoners, and those mistreated as if you were suffering.” We believe that the prayers of God’s people

around the world encourage, strengthen, and deliver our persecuted brothers and sisters in Christ.

IDOP, celebrating its 20th anniversary, has grown substantially in the last two decades and is now

observed in more than 100 countries. According to statistics, persecution is the daily reality for 100

million Christians around the world. These Christians, who face routine harassment and difficulties, often

suffer in silence and isolation. Over the years, the IDOP has served as a platform to highlight their stories

and advocate against their plight. Moreover, in so doing, the IDOP has also been a source of solidarity

and encouragement to persecuted Christians by reminding them that they are part of a larger, global

family of believers.

Join us and other Christians around the world as we pray fervently on November 13th for those brothers

and sisters in Christ being persecuted for “loving and serving Jesus.” (excerpts from Godfrey Yogarajah, Executive

Director World Evangelical Alliance, Religious Liberty Commission.) For more information see IDOP idop.org (The Voice of the

Martyrs) persecution.com

wonderful time of the year. “I don't have an ugly Christmas sweater," you say, then feel free to dig up an

old sweater and embellish your own just for this occasion. Who knows, you may even win a prize for the

'Ugly Sweater' contest we will be holding. There will be a few other games and surprises shared during

our afternoon together. Sign up at the Welcome Center, cost of $20 covers everything.

November Memory Verse

“give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NIV)

Library Review Hearts of Fire

This book is published by The Voice of the Martyrs and describes the work of eight

women (Adel, Pumina, Aida, Sabina, Tara, Ling, Gladys, and Mai) whose mission

continues to be telling the world that He is risen, and with the resurrection comes

love, grace, and forgiveness. The following excerpt shows what life was like for one

of these women:

Tara’s father’s parting words—”Either you marry or you die...If you are a Christian,

then there is no place for you in this city… you will die here alone.” Tara is sixteen

and knows she must escape for her life. Beaten to the brink of death, Tara—the

daughter of a prominent Pakistani Muslim—was locked in her room as a prisoner

without food or medical attention. All because she was caught with a Bible.

Tara’s story is not unique among these eight courageous women in Hearts of Fire. From the young

Vietnamese girl who turns down freedom in order to evangelize the people of her Communist homeland,

to the Australian missionary who spreads the message of forgiveness and healing across India after her

husband and sons are burned alive by village zealots, these women have overcome extreme adversity to

emerge as leaders and ministers in the underground church around the world.

Selfridge Boys Outing Sunday November 20, 12:30pm-4:30pm

Trail Life Boys K-6th grade will be going to Selfridge Air Base for a tour.

Selfridge Air National Guard Base is named after 1st Lieutenant Thomas E.

Selfridge. Selfridge was assigned for aeronautical duty in April 1908 after being an assistant to Professor

Alexander Graham Bell who was conducting aeronautical experiments in Nova Scotia. He was killed on

September 17, 1908 while flying as a passenger with Orville Wright at Fort Myer, Virginia. Selfridge was

the first person to be killed in a crash of a powered aircraft. Please don’t hesitate to contact our Troop

master, Justin Kane, with any questions about Trail Life at [email protected].
