December 2006 No. 154 HEADLINES Multi-Rod Mania in Epidemic Proportions Gidgegannup, December 2006 It appears while some people struggle to buy, build or rebuild just one hot rod, Multiple Rod-owneritis, while being around since the seventies, is now in epidemic proportions. Dave Krause has recently licensed his latest creation, a 37 Chev Coupe Utility (pictured above) bringing his quantity to three. Add this to Brian French’s four , Jeff Ewence’s two, Ralph Donovan’s pair, life member Vince Berriman’s two and Gibbys rod and custom duo, there is a lot. Consider that Lars, the Editor and others have also had pairs previously, there is still no proof to say that we are all mad.

FROM THE EDITORS BRAIN CELL Welcome back Rodders world wide. While gloating on past editorial achievements I was quickly brought back to earth with the realization that it is time to do it all again. This time with very little interference from stray contributions and the like. Although I must give Gibby credit for throwing a spanner in the works with several pix from the ASRF stand at the GM Day. GM=God’s Machinery. .At this stage I don’t even have Blossom’s monthly tripe to bore us to tears. I shall email him. It may appear just in time for publication. Just another thing to look forward to as you turn the pages slowly. Congratulations to Dave Krause for the completion of his unique 37 Chev ute. There are not many of these hot rods around. It is a great example of what can be achieved on a sensible budget and still be good looking and so individual. It is probably the best looking 37 Chev on Earth.. The light blue colour suits it perfectly. (I’m not sure if it was left overs knocked off from the King’s roadster , but it is very similar.) Elsewhere in hot rodville , Frenchie’s total rebuild of his stolen and trashed 35 Chev Coupe is almost complete. Kevin Best has checked out the work to finish off the front clip on my coupe and said it is the best car in the world. He would love to do it for nothing, after dropping his price from $2,500/hour. This will release Big Al from his nonbinding contract, but will leave Spanky’s Hot Rod Shop’s freezer full of lamb chops used as currency. At short notice, several members managed to attend my 51-Herewecome party at Tilden Hall. Unfortunately it clashed with other events which prevented some from making it. Like a daughter’s wedding. A week earlier and it would have been a son’s wedding. Jimbo even had a doctors certificate for an excuse. Any later and it would have been Jesus’s birthday. Ring-ins at the party included Archie Fullerton and Johnboy Barleycorn Barlow. Thanks to all who made it. See some pix in the social pages. Looking back over the past year, it would be easy if I had a diary, but from memory, it was another good year for the club and for rodding

in WA. New members Ralph Donovan and Warren Ellson introduced licensed rods into the club while Gary King, Ian Swinbourne and Dave Krause licensed new rods and Garry Curnow got his roadster back on the road since missing after the 1983 Mildura Nats. Yours truly, the goal setter, has at least kept working on the coupe. Soon boys. We have been blessed with several great new members that are getting involved. Keep at it guys. We had several 50th birthdays that we are aware of, including Yvonne’s, Eric’s, Steve’s and Rosmary’s. John Ferrier’s wife, Jane, moved to WA, Big Al is finally trapped in co-habitation with Carol, and yours truly decided to split. The Curnow’s daughter Shelley got hitched a week after the Anderson’s son Jake the Snake’s wedding. The normal big events were on again and well attended. MRCC run, Big Al’s Poker Run, Nostalgia Drags, Busselton run, Mini Nats in SA, Super Model Car Sunday, FathersDay Show, WAHRP show, Yanchep run and Christmas Lights Cruise as well as many other newer events that are getting good reputations. SummerSun Festival was a new retro multi function event on the calendar that included several rodding and rock-a-billy events. Allan Rossi again won ClubMan of the Year with Dave Krause again runner up. (Gardening and toilet duties must be worth a stack of oints.) Thanks to both for the huge contributions made to the club. The club has a healthy number of other contributors that also help during the year. Thanks to all of you too. As far as our facilities go, the club fences are as good as complete and we now have air conditioning in the rooms. AB’s garage nears completion and we will soon have our workshop space back. We have got a new pool table and swanky new meeting chairs, so the long held dreams and plans of our elder statesmen are slowly coming to fruition with the help of so many newer members over the last ten years. We broke theclub record for getting the DVD and TV running together and Allan Rossi (BL1) kept his Born Loser title almost unchallenged. Well that’s enough fluff and crystals for now. Please enjoy Christmas and take heaps of care with whatever you do. Have a healthy and fruitful 2007. Extreme E.

The Three Tortoises

Three tortoises, Bloss, MS and Allan, decide to go on a vintage tin hunt. Bloss packs the picnic basket with beer and sandwiches. The trouble is that the vintage tin site is ten miles away. So, it takes them ten days to get there in their ford shells. When they get there, Bloss unpacks the food and beer. "Ok MS give me the bottle opener." "I didn't bring it," says MS "I thought you packed it." Bloss gets worried, he turns to Allan, "Did you bring the bottle opener?" Naturally Allan didn't bring it. He only had some melted wiring harness. So they're stuck ten miles from home without a bottle opener. Bloss and Allan beg MS to go back for it. But he refuses as he says they will eat all the sandwiches. After two hours, and after they have sworn on their tortoise lives that they will not eat the sandwiches, he finally agrees. So MS sets off down the road at a steady pace. 20 days pass and he still isn't back and Bloss and Allan are starving, but a promise is a promise. Another 5 days and he still isn't back, but a promise is a promise. Finally they can't take it any longer so they take out a sandwich each, and just as they are about to eat it, MS pops up from behind a rock and shouts, "I KNEW IT.....I'M NOT F**KING GOING!"

NEW CONTEST Who can you photo-graph in or with your hot rod? Big Al has Charlie Court in the tourer, Eric has had the Phantom with the Willys, Gibby can only manage Father Christmas. (pathetic) Who can you do?

Humour... The Ski TripJack decided to go skiing with his buddy, Bob. They loaded up in Jack's minivan and headed north. After driving for a few hours, they got caught in a terrible blizzard. They pulled into a nearby farm and asked the attractive lady who answered the door if they could spend the night."I realize it's terrible weather out there and I have this huge house all to myself, but I'm recently widowed," she explained. "I'm afraid neighbours will talk if I let you stay in my house.""Don't worry," Jack said. "We'll be happy to sleep in the barn. And if the weather breaks, we'll be gone at first light."The lady agreed, and the two men found their way to the barn and settled in for the night. Come morning, the weather had cleared, and they got on their way. They enjoyed a great weekend of skiing. About nine months later, Jack got an unexpected letter from an attorney. It took him a few minutes to figure it out, but he finally determined that it was from the attorney of that attractive widow he had met on the ski weekend. He dropped in on his friend Bob and asked, "Bob, do you remember that good-looking widow from the ski trip ..... "Yes, I do.""Did you happen to get up in the middle of the night, go up to the house and pay her a visit?""Yes," Bob said, a little embarrassed about being found out. "I have to admit that I did.""And did you happen to use my name instead of telling her your name?"Bob's face turned red and he said, "Yeah, sorry, buddy. I'm afraid I did. Why do you ask?"

"She just died and left me everything."

Not to be out done, Extreme E held two 50th parties just to make sure he made the milestone. The second one was co-hosted by sister-in-law St Rose who turned 50 that week too. The Klaxon photographer was sent to the “51 Herewecome” party to catch the glamour and glitz of the event. Unfortunately he lost control of his mission after finding a bath tub full of beer and this is all we got.

Above: Pottsy found that the GM Day entry fee was cheaper than a caravan park, so he moved in. Caravan is full of pottsy’s craftmanship. He can even stand full height in it after some Chassis and floor modifications.

Neil Gibb organised an ASRF stand at the GM Day for the continuing promotion he does for hot rodding in WA. Here a few photos of cars on the stand and elsewhere. Right: When things apparently got desperate and rodders had to start using ugly cars for hot rod material, you would be amazed at the beautiful results that rodders can achieve. The 38 Chev tourer and Dave K’s 37 Chev ute are such examples.. Right & below: Gibby had his Pontiac Custom and Brian French had his 56 Chevy Pickup also on display.

What a beautiful day. Not a ford in sight!
