• Wo-Tum-Bu-1 • Dagmar Mombach • H190 cm The Wo-Tum-Bu Floor Lamp is part of the Mamo Nouchies series, produced in 1998 from a collaboration between Ingo Maurer with Dagmar Mambach.

German designer, Maurer’s creation pays homage to Isamu Noguchi, whose ideas were based on the traditional Japanese craft of Akari, and whose use of paper with stainless steel is the inspiration for the Mamo Nouchies series of lighting sculptures.

The name of the series comes from the first two letters of Maurer's and Mombach's last names, along with Nouchies, a pun on Noguchi, and the names of the individual lamps are named after ancient tribal spirits from across the world. Mombach's technique is performed entirely by hand, according to the Japanese tradition, and involves the manipulation of plain sheets of organic paper, by pulling and folding. Often up to eight separate treatments are needed to create the desired effect.

Maurer has received several awards for the collection, which has featured in numerous exhibitions worldwide, including shows at the Georges Pompidou Centre in Paris, the Amsterdam Stedelijk Museum and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
