Introduction K L Yap Consultants (KLYC) was established in September 1999, with the aim to provide efficient and effective solutions in civil and structural engineering. It started off working with steel contractors in carrying out design and providing advice in fabrication and erection of permanent structures. Subsequently, A & A and extension works were obtained, mainly in reinforced concrete, for both residential houses and a multi-storey factory building. These were soon followed by a project for Seagate in composite construction design. Since 2006, we have been doing construction engineering for projects such as The Sail Condominium at Marina Bay, Oceanfront Condominium, High Park Condominium, the Hotel Package of the Marina Bay Sands Integrated Resort, the Sports Hub and tunneling works at 2 Downtown Lines Contracts. Concurrently, we have been the permanent works QP for the factory development at Pioneer Walk, residential developments at Jalan Tanjung, Jalan Chelagi, Jalan Chempedak and Jalan Lanjut. We have a comprehensive set of software and knowledge base covering structural, civil, permanent and temporary works. The pieces of software routinely run include ETABS, Esteem 8, RAPT, Prokon, TEDDS, Limcon, AFES, Geo 5 in performing analyses and design. We also make use of IntelliCad and StruCad for drafting. In addition, we have a few hundreds of in-house spreadsheets covering such areas as non-typical connections, storage tanks to API650, cranes and derricks, geotechnical capacities of piles, to name but a few. A closer look at what we have been doing The following paragraphs elaborate on some selective assignments of ours.
