BFW conventional milling machines are used in several countries such as Bahrain, India, Kenya, Nigeria, Oman, Russia, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Zimbabwe.

A good number of these machines are relied upon for production by industry leaders such as Amtek, Bajaj Motors, Grasim Industries, Honda, Jindal Steel & Power, L&T, Mahindra & Mahindra, Maruti Udyog, Tata Motors, ThyssenKrupp, and Toyota.

BHEL, BEML, Central Scientific Institute of Research, Field Gun Factories, Gun Carriage Factories, HAL, ISRO, Ordnance Factories, and Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre are some prominent public sector users of these machines.

A useful vocational training tool, these machines are extensively used by the Indian Institutes of Technology, National Institutes of Technology, Directorate of Vocational and Educational Training, various ITIs, and many engineering colleges.

The worldwide population of BFW conventional milling machines is estimated to be 20,000. Built on German design perfected to suit Indian conditions, BFW conventional milling machines are the most preferred in their class as per data maintained at the Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers' Association.

Users have claimed success in milling prismatic components of steel, brass, aluminium, cast iron, and even wood with these machines; the hardness being up to 27 HRC and the depth of cut being up to 6 mm. Keyway milling on shafts, in-bore slotting, notch milling, rack cutting, spur/ helical gear cutting, etc., are some of the extraordinary usages tried by customers.

Motorised Overarm (Optional)MOA is supplied with vertical milling head for Size 2

and Size 3.5 machines. A manual quill stroke of70 mm is available on the milling head. The MOA

comes with an independent drive motor of3 kW (4 HP) power. The spindle is provided with

12 speeds in the range 45-2,000 rpm andISO 40 taper. Since the MOA itself is used as

overarm for mounting the arbor support bracket, no overarm is needed.

Rigid StructureThe rigid structure enables smooth, vibration-free machining. The rigid spindle housing, cross ribbed box type column structure, and the closed box-type knee design facilitate optimum chip removal and surface finish.

Work SpindleOptimum spacing of precision taper roller bearings enables vibration-free cutting. The bearing pre-loading is adjusted through a common nut.

CoolantAn electric pump mounted at the rear of the machine base ensures copious flow of coolant to the work zone. The coolant is discharged into the built-in coolant tank in the machine base.

LubricationCental lubrication for guide-ways and lead-screws, splash lubrication for speed and feed gears.

Guides The table, the cross-slide, and the knee, slide over dovetail guide-ways, which are amply dimensioned to withstand machining load. The guide-ways are protected constantly from the ingress of swarf and coolant.

Feed and TraversePower-operated feed in longitudinal and cross directionsfor standard Size 1 machine, rapid feed in longitudinal direction optional. Power operated feed and rapid traverse in longitudinal, cross, and vertical directions for Size 2 and Size 3.5 models.

Vertical Milling HeadSwivelled and clamped 45°on either side. The quill with the cutter spindle moves manually along its axis up or down for clamping at the desired position. 4- position turret stop and rapid quill movement facility is provided as optional feature on the vertical milling head for Size 1 and Size 2 models

Digital Read Out SystemOn all or X and Y axes, 0.005 mm resolution, helps in visualising table movement positions. Features offered include FPS-CGS conversion, 0- setting of the component, bolt-hole circle programming, and geometric/ trigonometric functions
