ExTERNAL STRUCTURE The�steel�and�glass�pavilions�fit�perfectly�into�the�Bankside�landscape,�reflecting�the�district’s�industrial�past�–�and�ushering�into�its�exciting,�residential�future.�The�oxide�reds�of�the�Winter�Gardens�echo�those�of�Tate�Modern�and�nearby�Blackfriars�Bridge,�while�the�exterior’s�timber�clad�panels�and�window�louvres�give�the�building�a�warm,�residential�feeling.�The�pavilions’�distinctive�external�bracing�system�has�removed�the�need�for�internal�structural�walls�and�created�highly�flexible�spaces�inside�the�apartments.

The�name�Rogers�Stirk�Harbour�+�Partners��has�become�synonymous�with�visionary�and�innovative�architecture.�The�practice,�established�in�1977,�has�conceived�and�created�some�of�the�world’s�most�distinctive�buildings,�from�Lloyd’s��of�London�and�the�Millennium�Dome�to�Terminal�4,�Madrid�Barajas�Airport.�Its�approach�to�urban�planning�and�sustainable�development�is�a�particular�hallmark�and�is�reflected�once�more��in�its�imaginative�work�at�NEO�Bankside.

“We�didn’t�want�to�take�anything�away�from��the�incredible�views�so�we’ve�kept�everything�low�and�sleek�yet�comfortable�at�the�same�time.�We’ve�also�tried�not�to�crowd�the�space,”��says�Collett.

INfORMAL DININGLike�the�study,�the�informal�dining�area�co-exists�with�the�main�living�space.��Placed�near�the�central,�open-plan�kitchen,��it�creates�a�distinctive�area�in�which�families�will�be�able�to�sit�down�together.�

“We�wanted�to�have�some�quite�adventurous�things�and�the�headboard�is�one�of�the�star�attractions�in�that�respect,”�says�Collett.

THE SECOND AND THIRD BEDROOMSIn�each�apartment�and�penthouse,�the��second�and�third�bedrooms�are�generous,�restful�spaces,�fitted�out�to�exceptionally��high�standards.�Ensuite�bathrooms�feature�hard�limestone�to�floors�and�walls.�
“We�wanted�the�bedrooms�to�have�a�soft�and�intimate�atmosphere.�In�the�second�and�third�bedrooms�we’ve�achieved�this�by�using�the�same,�subtle�palette�of�pale�greys,�blues�and�pale,�yellowish�greens,”�says�Collett.

“Borough�Market�has�been�London’s�food�hub��for�centuries�but�it�has�never�been�more�vibrant,”�says�Keogh�whose�menu�is�sourced�from�many�of�the�diverse�and�colourful�stalls�supplying�fresh�produce�that�surround�Roast.
I’ve�seen�it�change�dramatically.�You�can�see��by�the�type�of�people�who�come�here�for�lunch�now.�It’s�also�much�more�cosmopolitan�than�before.�There�are�more�affluent�people�around.�But�it’s�also�like�a�community,�there’s��a�real�family�spirit�and�atmosphere�in�Borough�Market.�It’s�such�a�magnetic�place,�I�even�come�here�on�my�days�off.
There’s�something�special�about�being�here,�people�love�exploring�the�nooks�and�crannies�and�getting�lost.�You�can�just�go�and�graze,��have�some�Spanish�ham�at�Brindisa�or�a�pint��of�real�English�ale�at�The�Wheatsheaf.�London��is�now,�along�with�New�York,�one�of�the�two��food�hubs�of�the�world.�You�can�eat�food��from�every�country�and�the�quality�of�the��chefs�and�the�cooking�here�is�second�to�none.�There’s�something�to�suit�everyone’s�taste.”
