A Message from our Worthy Grand Knight

Dear Brother Knights,

As I come to the second month as your Grand Knight, I ponder what we could have done different this past month. As yet, we have not had an official installation of our current officers. This is not of our doing, nor is it the doing of our esteemed District Deputy, nor is it for want of trying. Rather it is due to this current pandemic that prevents us from gathering to accomplish this task. I have been assured by Father Francis that as soon as the Archbishop relaxes the restrictions on gatherings, he will permit us to again schedule use of St. John Hall. In the meantime, he has granted permission for us to hold an installation ceremony under the pavilion if we maintain social distancing and wear masks. I am working with our District Deputy of a date. He has expressed the desire to use this gathering to pass out “football frenzy” tickets and several awards that he is holding for some of our members.

We had acquired 75 blue face masks with the Knights of Columbus logo for sale. SK Henry Delgado assures me that he has sold most of those masks and as of last week has sold all by 20 or so of the masks. They are going fast, so if you have not acquired your very own copy, now is the time to buy. The cost is still only $10.00 per mask. You may reserve a mask by contacting Henry at [email protected] or by call him at (972) 571-2892. We are looking into whether there is enough interest to purchase additional masks.

We are embarking on another service project with our Assembly the “Shield a Badge with a Prayer” project. So far, we have had a positive response from both the Comal County Sheriff’s Office and the Bulverde Police Department. In the coming days we will be looking for volunteers from both the Council and the Assembly to partner with a peace officer to support them with prayer. Many of you know the tremendous pressure society has placed on our law enforcement and they all need as much prayer support as we can provide. Prayer does work miracles when diligently applied by dedicated prayer warriors.

On a final note, as all of you should be aware, our primary function is charity. Giving to those who need our financial, physical, emotional, and spiritual help. To date, we have been forced to cancel many of our fund-raising projects due to the pandemic. We need new projects we can employ in the short-term to support some of our financial obligations to others. If any of you can think of a short-term project we can use to raise money, please do not hesitate to contact one of the Council officers with your suggestions.

Vivat Jesus Viva Cristo ReyIn His Service,

Tom, GK, SK

A Prayer for 9/11Mychal Judge was a chaplain for the New York City Fire Department. He had printed the words of this prayer on a card to hand out to anyone who needed them.

by Rick HamlinPosted in Faith and Prayer

Lord, take me where you want me to go.Let me meet who you want me to meet.

Tell me what you want me to say,And keep me out of your way.

It’s not my prayer. It’s a prayer that came from the Franciscan priest Father Mychal Judge, who was killed on 9/11 at the World Trade Center when he was ministering to a fallen firefighter.Mychal Judge was a chaplain for the New York City Fire Department. His church, St. Francis of Assisi, was right across the street from the fire station Engine 1, Ladder 24 on West 31st Street, not far from our Guideposts editorial offices. He had printed the words of the prayer on a card to hand out to anyone who needed them.On September 10, 2001, he called his fellow NYFD chaplain Everett Wabst of Staten Island for some more prayer cards. Father Mychal had run out of them. Wabst was driving into New York with the cards when he heard of the attack. Soon he learned about Father Mychal’s tragic death. For the next 48 hours, Wabst counseled firefighters, survivors and first responders. And he used the prayer that came from one of the disaster’s first victims. They’re words that work any day of the year, but they seem particularly poignant for this day.

Lord, take me where you want me to go.Let me meet who you want me to meet.

Tell me what you want me to say,And keep me out of your way.

Brothers- Please pray for all the families/patients who are dealing with COVID-19! For those that died with only a nurse or care taker present, to console them and be with them as they left this world.

Prayers are really in need during this Pandemic.

Dear Jesus, defend me in my battle to remain true to Your Word at any cost. Safeguard me against Your enemies. Protect me from those who persecute me because of You. Share in my pain. Ease my suffering. Raise me in the Light of Your Face, until the Day You come again to bring Eternal Salvation to the world. Forgive those who persecute me. Use my suffering to atone for their sins, so they can find peace in their hearts and welcome You with remorse in their souls on the last Day. Amen.

Brothers,

We pray that you and your family are well and safe during these most trying times of COVID-19.

The Golf Tournament Committee, with an abundance of caution, rescheduled the Golf Tournament from September 18, 2020 to next year. Our plan is to schedule this tournament on Friday, May 21, 2021. However, River Crossing Club, with the uncertainty of COVID-19, has elected to wait until later this year to confirm any tournament dates.

It is our hope that your will join us along with eight Wounded Warriors at our 10th

Annual Tournament in 2021. With your participation the Knights can continue to support the charitable organizations in our community.

Sir Knights,The days are suddenly getting shorter and it is starting to feel like Fall,

except for our daily temperatures of 90 degrees plus. Hopefully we will soon be experiencing those cooler crisp mornings that signal the change of season in our area. This is a beautiful time of year.

Although most of our St. Joseph Ministries, including the Knights, are unable to meet in person, we do know that we have the blessing of being able to attend Mass personally on Sunday, and daily, if we so desire. Fr. Francis has even added a Saturday daily mass at 12:00 noon starting in September.

Remember that the reception of the Eucharist is the source and summit of our faith. If you are well and able, do everything that you can to attend at least one mass during the week. Don’t let COVID-19 be an obstacle for you. If you are concerned about the number of attendees at weekend masses, then consider attending the 8am or 5pm Sunday masses, or, give consideration to at least attending one of the daily masses that are held in the main church with 40-50 people attending.

A Message from our Faithfull Navigator

Speaking of mass, I want to say “thank you” to those Sir Knights who are serving as ushers during the weekend liturgies. Your help in this ministry is extremely important, now more than ever, to help ensure the safety of all of those in attendance by helping parish members with adhering to the guidelines required by the Arch Diocese during the pandemic. I am aware that our attendance is nearing the reduced capacity ceiling for the Saturday 5pm and Sunday 10am masses, and that we are in need of ushers at all masses. If you are willing and able to volunteer as an usher, please contact Rose in the church office. New ushers do receive training prior to being assigned to service.

Matthew 26: 26-28: While they were eating, Jesus took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and giving it to his disciples said, “Take and eat; this is my body.” Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed on behalf of many for the forgiveness of sins.

Sir Knights, be well and may God bless you and your families.

Jesus, We Trust In You

Prayer for the Canonization of Father Michael J. McGivney God, our Father, protector of the poor and defender of the widow and orphan, you called your priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, to be an apostle of Christian family life and to lead the young to the generous service of their neighbor. Through the example of his life and virtue may we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his commandment of charity and building up his Body which is the Church. Let the inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater confidence in your love so that we may continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that you glorify your venerable servant Father Michael J. McGivney on earth according to the design of your holy will. Through his intercession, grant the favor I now present (here make your request). Through Christ our Lord. Amen. Our Father Hail Mary Glory be to the Father
