Prayer for the Canonization of
Blessed Father Michael J. McGivney
God, our Father, protector of
the poor and defender of the
widow and orphan, you called
your priest, Father Michael J.
McGivney, to be an apostle of
Christian family life and to lead
the young to the generous service
of their neighbor. Through the
example of his life and virtue may we follow your Son, Je-
sus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his commandment of
charity and building up his body which is the Church. Let
the inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater con-
fidence in your love so that we may continue his work of
caring for the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask
that you glorify your servant Blessed Father Michael J.
McGivney on earth according to the design of your holy
will. Through his intercession, grant the favor I now pre-
sent (here make your request). Through Christ our Lord.
Amen

PRAISE
Praise is not a word we often think of as significant or even often used, whether in our lives of prayer or in our lives of relating to other human be-ings. It may come as a surprise when reflecting on our use of it, what it re-veals about our innermost selves: our virtues or the lack thereof, or the depths of our prayer and knowledge of God if we are thinking of it in the spiritual sense.
What does the word “praise” mean to us as individuals. It is not flattery or compliments given to fulfill expectations of another. It is not an exaggerated kind of appreciation which ex-pects a return. When we receive praise ourselves, we know that it means an experience of greater ac-ceptance of being loved.
Praise as worship and prayer is spontaneous for those who know how to practice it often in daily life. It comes unexpectedly to our lips when we are caught by surprise by the gift of God’s goodness, when our hearts are shocked into the awareness of God’s attributes: beauty, power, infinity, eternity and above all, love. I may then become aware of His unconditional love. The Blessed Virgin Mary echoes this in her Magnifi-cat (My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord ----) is one of the greatest expressions of praise ever written. It is a combination of humility, thanksgiving and wonderment which overwhelmed her to pronounce God’s goodness.
The Psalms in Scripture are God’s own words of praise offered to us for our own praise to Him. The Liturgy of the Eucharist is our daily opportunity to offer the ultimate expression of praise as our Mass gradually builds up to a climax in the singing of the Holy, Holy, Holy.
In our hymns we give God praises; i.e.: “Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow”.
Praise should be ever on our lips to acknowledge the greatness of our Lord and Savior.
Viva Jesus!

Since its addition to the Order’s product portfolio in 2000, long-term care insurance has provided the order with an excellent opportunity to further serve Knights and their families. And, since 2005, every Knights of Columbus long-term care policy comes with an added value.
That added value is in the form of a service called “Provider Pathway”, a program offering access to a net-work of long-term care providers at discounted rates. The network covers: home health care, personal emergency response systems, adult day care, assisted living, skilled nursing facilities and durable medical equipment.
Eligibility for participation in this program is open to Knights of Columbus long-term care insurance policy-holders, their spouses, dependent children, parents and parents-in-law. All providers are fully credentialed and meet state licensing requirements.
If you are not currently an LTC policyholder, I suggest that you and I get together so that I can provide ad-ditional information on how you can avail yourself of this valuable, value-added benefit.
Call me.

CHALICE PROGRAM
Our Assembly Chalice Program now has 47 active members Not all of the members have selected a
recipient for their Chalice after their passing.
Remember one of the Mottos of the first degree that we all went thru. That was: "Tempus Fugit,
Momento More" translates to "Time Flies, Remember Death". None of us will live forever and we don't
know when our passing will occur. Be prepared by selecting a Priest or other religious group that can cele-
brate a mass as your recipient of choice. You can change your selection whenever you want. As a minimum,
talk to your spouse or other family members to make them aware of the program. I have had to request that
the family select a recipient after a member's passing if he had not made a selection. Some have responded
to me "What's the Chalice Program?". Save your family from making that choice while still mourning your
passing. Plan ahead.

Military service of Timothy H. Hodgins Retired, US. Navy US. Coast Guard
Timothy Hodgins was born and raised in North Hollywood, CA. He graduated from Notre Dame High, School in June of 1968. While attending Valley College in Van Nuys, CA the draft lottery was posted. Tim's number was very low, so he decided to enlist in the US. Naval Reserves. On June 10, 1969 he was inducted in the Naval Reserves, then 18 days later was married to his high school sweetheart, Terry. Luckily, he had already been sworn in as they did not allow mar-
ried men to enlist in the reserves.
Tim's military service began with the US. Naval Reserves on June 10, 1969. He was enlisted as an Electrician's Mate El. He did his boot camp with the Navy in San Diego in July of 1969. For the next year he attended monthly Reserve weekends, preparing for his Active Duty. During that time his rank went to an E2. In June of 1970 he reported to Long Beach for his 2 years of active duty service. While stationed at Long Beach he received Electrician's Mate E3. In October of 1971 he was deployed on a West Pack Tour towards Vietnam. At the end of October his son, Andrew, was born and was very ill. The Navy along with the Red Cross decided Tim's place was with his wife and newborn son. They air lifted him off his destroyer, USS Decatur DDG31 in the China Sea, and flew him to an aircraft carrier, USS Forrestal. There they catapulted him off the flight deck to the Philippines. After several days on island buses and air transportation he got home. His son was not critical anymore, but his family was so happy to see him. The Navy decided that Tim could spend the rest of his active duty in Long Beach and didn't have to return to the destroyer. In 1972 he was released from active duty and was given the rank of Electrician's Mate E4. He continued with the Naval Reserves until 1982. In late 1982 he transferred to the US. Coast Guard Reserves at Channel Islands, CA. The next 10 years he attended his monthly weekends on the Search and Rescue team. In 1993 he decided to end his active reserve status and became an inactive reserve member. In 2003 Tim retired from the US. Coast Guard.
Tim's military education includes; Boot Camp with the US. Navy in San Diego, CA, Sub Base Pearl Harbor Electrical Training (during his yearly 2 weeks active duty 1979-1982), and Boat Crewman Training with the US. Coast Guard.
Tim's military awards and decorations include; Expert Shooter for the 45 and the AR16, Vietnam Service Medal, US. Naval Reserve Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and a accommodation for an "At Sea Rescue" with the Coast Guard.
Tim is the son of Harry and Audrey Hodgins, he has 2 sisters, Sharon and Nancy. He is married to Terry (celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in June), has 1 son, Andrew (married to Stacy), and 1 daughter, Jessica (married to Kevin). He is the very proud Granddad to 5 grandchildren, Cal, Trevor, Jack, Payton & Camdyn. Tim and his family have been living in Simi Valley, CA since 1972.
