  • Know-how from Ac to Zr

  • 13,500 customers950 suppliers

    1 goal

    As one of the leading

    distribution companies for

    chemicals and plastics

    we operate on a rapidly

    changing market:

    impending raw materials

    shortages in many fields,

    rising demand from newly

    industrialising countries, new

    regulations such as REACh ...

    In view of this increasing

    complexity, know-how is

    becoming a crucial key to

    success. That is why today

we rely more than ever on

    the outstanding qualifica-

    tions of our employees and

    our expertise based on many

    years experience.

    Only those who are equally

    familiar with the situation of

    manufacturers and with the

    needs of the processing

industry can be a good part-

    ner for both sides.

    Our goal has remained

    unchanged over the last

    hundred years:

    We aim to achieve success,

    along with our suppliers and

    our customers.

Which is why, despite all the

    challenges, we see the future

    primarily as a source of

    opportunities.

    We look forward to seizing

    them with you.

  • Rapid technological

    advances are opening up

    more and more new

    fields of application for

    chemicals and plastics.

    Whereas in 1975 more than

20 % of the weight of a car

    consisted of plastics and

    elastomers, the figure today

    is over 30 %.

And more than 50 % of the

    new Airbus A350-900 XWB

    will be made of composite

    materials.

    New greener technologies

    often result in fundamental

    changes in entire branches

    of industry:

In the early 1990s, for exam-

    ple, CFCs in foam plastics

had to be replaced by alter-

    native foaming agents. And

    for many years now there

has been a steady rise in the

    share of solvent-free paints

    and varnishes in the surface

    coatings sector.

    The legal environment is

    also changing: The new

    European Chemicals

    Regulation REACh imposes

    extensive registration and

    approval obligations on

    companies.

    We at Biesterfeld are pre-

    pared for such rapid and

    often far-reaching changes

enabling us to help our part-

ners to emerge from them in

    a stronger position than

    before.

Twenty years ago, who would have thought of hundreds

of uses for our products ?

  • Exponential expertsBiesterfeld focuses on three

    core business fields which

    operate as independent

    subsidiaries within the

    framework of Biesterfeld AG:

    Biesterfeld Plastic

    with its centralized product

    management distributes

    engineering polymers,

    standard polymers,

    elastomers and additives via

    technically skilled local sales

    organisations in 26 countries

    throughout Europe.

    Biesterfeld Spezialchemie

    not only has highly skilled

    specialists throughout Europe,

    but also offers an extensive

    product portfolio in the

    fields of LifeScience,

    Food Ingredients, CASE

    (Coatings Adhesives Sealants

    Elastomers) and

    Performance Products.

    Biesterfeld International

is a worldwide player in the

    fields of agrochemicals,

    industrial chemicals, phar-

    maceutical raw materials

    and active ingredients, salt

    and sugar.

    This specialisation means we

    can ensure that our service

    and advice are carefully

    tailored to the needs of

    the individual sectors and

    industries so we are even

    closer to our customers.

  • In 1906 we had one product

Today 8011, 8012, 8013 ... Since Wilhelm Ernst HinrichBiesterfeld started trading in

    salt in 1906,

    we have continued enlarging

    our product portfolio step by

    step.

    Today Biesterfeld deals in

more than 8 000 products in

    a wide variety of specifica-

    tions some of them selling

    only a few kilograms, others

    over 100 000 tons a year.

    This means that in many

    market segments we are full-

    range providers:

    For many fields of applica-

    tion we supply the entire

    product portfolio that our

    customers need for their

    production.

    Thus we offer customers the

    benefit of one-stop shopping,

enabling them to buy all they

    need from a single source

and at the same time to be

sure that we will keep all

    necessary chemicals and

    plastics available.

For this reason the size of

our range is not an end in

itself neither is the size and

    inter national presence of our

    Group.

It just helps us to provide our

    customers with better service

    on better terms.

  • 1150 years at university+ 5100 years

training on the job The quality of any advicedepends on the quality of

    those who provide it.

Which is why we attach the

    utmost importance to our

    employees qualifications.

    This means that your direct

    contact at Biesterfeld will in

    most cases have had an

    education in the chemical

    engineering field.

    The majority of our advisors

    are chemistry or chemical

    engineering graduates and

    have also gained practical

    experience in the processing

    industries so they have a

    first-hand knowledge of their

    customers needs.

In addition to our three core

    business fields, we also make

    our know-how available via

    independently operating

    service companies.

    Biesterfeld ChemLogS allows

    businesses to profit from our

    experience in chemicals

    management helping them

to fill, pack and store even

    sensitive substances.

    We make our IT competence

    available to customers

    through BIT-SERV our full-

    service provider for data pro-

    cessing, SAP, CRM, Internet,

    E-commerce and systems

    technology.

  • 365 / 7 / 24

    Reliable supply is an issue

    of crucial importance to our

    customers.

    They have to keep their

    production going and that

often means 7 days a week,

    365 days a year.

    Thats why Biesterfeld has

    always focused on close

    cooperation with manufactur-

    ers:

    Sales partnerships with market

    leaders in the industry and

    long-term supply agreements

    enable us to guarantee quality

    and continuity. Here we reap

    the benefit of our detailed

    knowledge of global markets,

    helping us to foresee problems

    and schedule quantities for

    our customers on a long-term

    basis.

    And we cooperate just as

    closely with our customers:

    Our knowledge of their

    applied technologies allows

    us to obtain the necessary

    materials for new processes

and hence to open up new

    business fields for both

    sides.

We can offer our customers a

range of options in the field

    of finance as well always

    with the aim of ensuring

    greater flexibility improving

    the planning capabilities.

  • 51 local bases -at home all

over the worldThere can hardly be a more

    global market than ours.

    These days many chemicals

    and plastics are only pro-

duced in a small number of

    factories around the world

    today many of our products

    originate from Asia or

    America.

    And because our customers

    production operations are

    just as worldwide, these

goods often have to be deliv-

    ered to very remote regions.

    Which is why Biesterfeld

    today is an international

    enterprise with branches in

    more than 30 countries.

    This presence, combined

    with our experience of deal-

    ing with local conditions and

    local public authorities,

ensures that we are always in

    a position to deliver reliably,

    safely and just-in-time.

    We also have local storage

depots in most of the coun-

    tries we serve. This is

    because only locally avail-

    able supplies enable us to

    group shipments efficiently,

    thereby generating cost

    advantages for our

    customers.

    This network of depots helps

us to be on hand wherever

    you need us.
