    Welcome to Bosnia & Herzegovina

Bosnia and Herzegovina is a long name

for a country that measures just over

50,000 km2. The country is blessed with

a beautiful natural environment which is a

    combination of alpine and Mediterranean

climates. Historically, BiH has been at the

crossroads of East and West and this is

visible in the countrys architecture and

    cultural heritage.

This project takes place in Sarajevo,

capital of this heart-shaped country. It is

also known as the Jerusalem of Europe,

because it is famous for its traditionalreligious diversity. It is a place where the

    Western & Eastern Roman Empire split;

where the people of the Roman Catholic

west, Eastern Orthodox east and the

Ottoman south, met, lived and warred.

It has been both an example of historical

turbulence and the clash of civilizations, as well

as a beacon of hope for peace and tolerancethrough multi-cultural integration. Sarajevo has

    attracted international attention several times

throughout its history: In 1914 it was the siteof the assassination that sparked World War I,

while seventy years later it became the hostcity of the 1984 Winter Olympics, and eight

years after that it became known as thelocation of the longest city siege in modern

    history.

Most of the pictures of Sarajevo are enriched

by numerous sacral objects. The mosques fromthe Ottoman period, Catholic and Orthodox

churches, synagogue and other traces of multi-

etnic coexistence and beacuse of that, Sarajevohas always been characterized by idea of

    multicultural environment and this specific

environment shows and testifies great exampleof architectural link between East and Westbecause of the crossroads of cultures and

civilitazions. Sarajevo is one of the most

interesting places on the cultural map ofEurope. The city itself encompasses four

quarters: the old town (Baarija), the newtown, the centre and New Sarajevo.

    Sarajevo Knowlympics

Education of young people is one of the most important factors in creating a useful

member of community. Having in mind that education is one of the major initiator ofchanges, especially with young children, AIESEC Sarajevo is organizing winter projectbased on exchange called Knowlympics. We came up with the name when we were

thinking about the season in which this project would be realized, which is winter. Many associations are tied and connected with winter, but we chose knowledge as

the base of the project, the proposition we are attacking, and Olympics the

symbol of engaging different nations, diversity of cultures which will be the key partof this project.

Thus, in the spirit of team work of the elementary students with the international

students, we named it Knowlypics. With certainty we can say that this project will be

the initiator for the re-examination of the values children develop at such young age.One of the goals is to adjust and sculpt those principles and values through

    interesting and useful workshops.

Realization of this project is planned from January 26th to March 8th. First week

wouldnt be the working week for the exchange students, since they would need to gothrough the integration process into our society, get to know with the city with thehelp of AIESEC Sarajevo.

After the 1st week they would start working with the children

and continue until their departure to their countries.

The goalof this project is to educate the elementary students about tolerance,

respect and desire to learn. Also we want to encourage the desire to strengthen linksbetween knowledge and child's development.

The project will involve 20 international students who would work with children in 10

primary schools in Canton Sarajevo.Primary schools will, with help of international

students, organize workshops about tolerance, emotional intelligence, different

cultures... This project offers a unique opportunity to work and gain knowledge in new

    working environment.

The process of application of the participants and their selection is thoroughly done

by the sending and hosting country.

Students pass a rigorous screening and orientation process in order to participate in

our exchange program. They are carefully screened for emotional maturity, cultural

curiosity, academic achievement, and English language ability. Our matching managers

carefully review each student application to assess his or her strengths, personality

traits, likes and dislikes, habits, activities, hobbies and cultural customs. Its very

important that they want to impact our society through community development in

    the area of education.

Their assignments will be to prepare interesting impactful classes for the young

students. They will teach children about their countrys culture and art, tradition andhistory.

Our side goal is to make them more conscious about what happens daily in other

countries. The workshops will be consisted of different kind of games, quizzes,

presentations, discussions. This way they will help the children to create the big picture

of interculturalism, equality and communion thought positive learning experience with the

intern. Students will also use different psychological books, previous researches and

other materials about emotional intelligence which will help them in organizing the

    workshops.

This way, international students will have a chance to improve education system in

Bosnia and Herzegovina and learn about culture of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Working

with children requires commitment and responsibility, but also brings pleasure.

For the first time in AIESEC Sarajevo we are implementingGlobal Family

    program where

international students will have a chance to spend 3 weeks or 6 weeks in a host

family. This program will be presented to the parents of the elementary students during

the parents meetings in the elementary schools.

    Tasks

    7/7

In order to live and work in a global society, young students must embrace other

ways of living in order to build intercultural skills and knowledge. This way, the

hosting family has an opportunity to give to our community an eager new

member with fresh perspectives. Hosting an international exchange student benefits

everyone involved. Entire family will learn about a new country and culture without

leaving home. Host families and exchange students share daily life, meals, andholidays. They discuss current events in their respective communities and explore

cross-cultural perceptions and values. This intimacy creates lasting relationships

that ultimately shape the Bosnia and Herzegovina's reputation abroad.

Special part of this project is organized in the integration week for the exchange

students and its called Global Village. It is a chance for all the current

exchange students to present their culture in an innovative and fun way to eachother by bringing their traditional clothes, drinks and food (that can also be

prepared), maybe some pictures, postcards and souvenirs.

    Thank you

Skate your way to Sarajevo and make ithappen!
