Why talk to Kodak for your data center needs? Kodak subject matter experts and industry marketing specialists have been helping to change the way data centers approach their print needs for the last decade. Today we have years of experience working with the largest printers in the world, and we can use that experience to create the most efficient solution for your current needs and to position for your needs in coming years. AFP, Metacode, PCL, PostScript and PDF are all spoken here!
There are many print providers with targeted print devices, but Kodak has the experience at every speed range and using every print technology, so we can guide you to the best solutions in black and white and in color.
Inside the data center Data center printing environments typically support billing and statement operations and similar environments where the output is generated as the result of a business interaction. We call these interactions transactions, and that is where we get the term transaction printing. The nature of these transactions is that they document a business event, therefore they must be secure, auditable, and they must be printed and delivered to the recipient in a timely manner.
Traditional data center printing uses print file formats that are different from those used by commercial printers. The formatting programs and applications are also different because their focus is on moving transaction data from a billing application to a printed statement in the most efficient manner. The big change in data center printing in the last decade has been the ability to substantially improve the image quality and information design to provide a better experience for the recipient. Another big change is in rethinking the purpose of the transaction document. By adding key marketing messages that tie in to current marketing campaigns, it is possible to make the transaction document do twice the work for the same postage cost.
Rethinking the transaction documentKodak works with some of the largest transaction printers in the world to promote the use of bills and statements as a key part of the overall customer communication strategy. We sometimes call this TransPromo communication, merging the idea of transaction communication with the promotional aspects of direct mail and other campaigns. But it is really much more. The idea behind TransPromo communication is to use what you know about your current
customers, and what you can find out about them by adding information from other sources, to speak more personally to those customers.
For example, if you produce billing statements, your view of your customer is usually limited to that one relationship. Based on that information it may be hard to know what other services you have that might interest that customer. If you can acquire basic demographic data about people who live in similar postal codes, you can draw a bigger picture of your existing customer and engage in a deeper conversation. It is not invasive and it does not violate privacy restrictions.
The next generation data centerWhether your needs are for basic transaction printing or you are interested in moving to the next level of customer communication, Kodak has solutions. The basics are covered with our cut sheet Kodak Digimaster Digital Production Systems, continuous Kodak Versamark Printers, and the supporting software that allows us to integrate into your existing workflow with some of the most reliable solutions in the industry.
If you are ready to step into color, we have those solutions well identified with our cut sheet Kodak NexPress Digital Production Color Presses and continuous Kodak Versamark Printers. For many, the first step is to look at the current printing and identify how much preprinted stock is used. Significant savings are seen by Kodak customers who replace all of that preprinted stock with a white paper solution that includes one of our full color printers and a new workflow. Adding the digital color form during the printing process frees up the concern of loading incorrect stock, eliminates stock change time and warehousing costs, and adds tremendous flexibility for scheduling. For your customer, the next step can be to add more flexibility to the look of the invoice, perhaps even adopting TransPromo techniques to drive some additional revenue.
The data center and transaction printing markets are served by both inplant and print for pay/service providers. The requirements in this environment extend beyond printing, and encompass the entire workflow, data and physical plant security, fitness for mailing, and deliverability. To meet the needs of this diverse group, Kodak delivers best-in-class solutions in every speed range, meeting every requirement from cut-sheet black-and-white printing, to the highest speed continuous printing in monochrome and color.
