The ultimate way to monitor temperature
KONGSBERG has been in the sensor business for more than 40 years, creating a
range of sensor systems and accessories designed for the maritime and industrial
markets.
Since 2001, KONGSBERG has delivered SENTRY®, a sophisticated Wireless
Temperature Monitoring System for non-stationary moving parts in rotating
machinery.
KONGSBERG’s unique SENTRY system is designed to provide continuous real-time
temperature information that can be used for analysis, diagnostics and early
warning, particularly suited for reciprocating compressors, large diesel and gas
engines, paper mills, turbo couplings and generators.

Based on low energy radar technology
The SENTRY system measures the temperature close to the bearing shells. The
distance between the sensor and antenna is up to 35 mm, thus the installation of
the stationary reading antenna related to the wireless temperature sensor is
extremely flexible and non-critical.
The signal processing unit generates a low energy radar pulse, which is transmitted
to the wireless sensor via the stationary antenna. When the wireless sensor passes
the stationary antenna it receives a radar pulse and immediately reflects a pulse
back to the signal processing unit. The characteristics of the reflected pulse are
uniquely defined by the temperature of the sensor.

The real-time advantage
SENTRY can be permanently installed in the hostile and hazardous environment
inside the crank case of reciprocating compressors and engines. It provides
continuous real-time temperature information for analysis, diagnostics and early
seizure warning.

Great R & D tool
"Your sensors have been one of the best R & D tools we have -
to establish limits and also to determine if a bearing or bushing
modification is better or not - by the temperature."
Protecting against failure
"This week we saved a crankshaft when we were testing a
bearing design. We observed a fast temperature increase, which
allowed us to stop the unit without damage to anything but the
bearing shell."
Reliable operation
"Following refit installation in 2003 the system has been very
reliable and an excellent bearing condition and machine safety
tool."
