31 October 2019 Edition #17 Kookaburra Chronicles TA12 Has a Busy Start to Term 4 We are setting up an outdoor teaching area by painting tables in bright colours and patterns. We all had free choice to let our creative ideas flow when painting a section of a table top. They look fantastic and we can now sit outside and do our work in the fresh air surrounded by our garden. There are lots to report from TA12 for the start of Term 4. We kicked the term off with planting up our new vegie garden using the Woolworths free seeds and tomato plants from Mrs Tyes vegie garden. We would especially like to give Mr Jason Price a huge thank you for his kind donation of the planter box. Its awesome! We water our garden daily and check on our plant growth. We also have two student teachers doing their practicum placement in our class this term for four weeks. Miss Lauren Gull and Miss Ellen Maughan have been taking some of our lessons and having fun with us in our class. We wish them all the best in their teaching careers, they will make great teachers. In STEM we have started using the Edison robots to create a program to explain the importance of plant biosecurity in Australia. We did lots of research on the topic last term and are now using the Edison bots to showcase our knowledge. We really like learning how to program them.

TA12 Has a Busy Start to Term 4

We are setting up an outdoor teaching area by painting tables in bright colours and patterns. We all had free choice to let our creative ideas flow when painting a section of a table top. They look fantastic and we can now sit outside and do our work in the fresh air surrounded by our garden.

There are lots to report from TA12 for the start of Term 4. We kicked the term off with planting up our new vegie garden using the Woolworths free seeds and tomato plants from Mrs Tye’s vegie garden. We would especially like to give Mr Jason Price a huge thank you for his kind donation of the planter box. It’s awesome!

Dear parents and caregivers,

Interschool Athletics

Last week saw our athletics team compete in the annual carnival over two days, Wednesday for jumps

and throws and Friday for the running and team events. I was privileged to be in attendance at the Friday

carnival and was so impressed by the sportsmanship displayed by all of our team. Whether our athletes

won, came second or third or even a lower place, South Padbury kids were always on hand to

congratulate their competitors for their best efforts. Indeed, South Padbury children are more and more

noted for this high level of respect shown to others and is a testament to their families and South Padbury

– well done! Of course there was also some exceptional individual and team performances on the day and

while I am cautious in naming just one in particular, I must mention Toby Clowes diving over the finish line

to bring the win to his footy relay team. This commitment was demonstrated again and again by our

athletes and certainly we could ask no more of any of them. Congratulations to all competitors and which

in the end and the final results being counted, South Padbury came a very creditable third. A big thank

you to the kids and the many supporters who really added to the atmosphere along with all the lead up

work by the staff and Mrs Wiener in particular for all of her organisation and expertise. Also a huge thank

you to the Year 6 students who had been training for their particular team games from Year 1 up across

numerous lunch times all term. These student leaders have set a precedent for next year and beyond –

great job!

Year 6 Camp

On Monday our Year 6 students along with Mr Knox, Mrs Butterly, Mrs Kemp, Mrs Bishop and Miss

Booker headed off on camp to the South Padbury traditional campsite on the beaches of Busselton. This

week always tends to be a highlight for the year with numerous challenging experiences for the kids to

conquer and in doing so boost their self-esteem to be the best person they can be. It also allows for

stories and memories that we look forward to hearing on their return. As a school we wish them all the

best for their final day and hope they have enjoyed the experience to the fullest. As a school we have

certainly noticed the absence of Year 6 kids in the playground but are so lucky in having an ongoing

leadership culture and where the Year 5 kids have taken on the mantle this week. Thank you Year 5

students for doing such a tremendous job this week and honing your skills in preparation for next year.

Thank you also to Mr Simmonds and Mrs Tye for guiding the Year 5 students this week in their extra

duties.

Flag Poles

Over the holidays we had our old flag pole retired and four new ones installed in front of the library. These flag poles are now used on a daily basis to proudly fly our national flag, along with our state flag, Aboriginal flag and Torres Strait Islander flag. Thank you to the students in Mr Simmond’s class who have taken on this responsibility with gusto and in doing so providing our whole community with the opportunity to see these flags flying and understand their importance.

"LET’S GET QUIZZICAL” QUIZ NIGHT

On Friday 18 October, the P&C held their first ever Quiz Night. This was an astounding success and we managed to raise just over $3000.00 and had fun doing so. This money will benefit all of our SPPS children, as we continue to fund incursions and activities at school.

We have received so much positive feedback from people who attended the evening. We have also received positive feedback from the quizmasters and our venue, The Northshore Tavern, who would gladly have us back for future events.

Thank you everyone who helped in anyway, in the lead up to and on the night, to make it the success it was.
