01. Domestic Survey • Republic of Korea is located in Northeast Asia (38ºN-33ºN latitude, 126ºE-132ºE
longitude), with the size of 99,720㎢. The capital is Seoul city, with the popula-
tion of 10.2 million, whereas, the whole population is 48.95 million (South Korea).
Korean is the main language, written in Hanguel. Korea has a republic political sys-
tem as a president.

• Current Korean GDP is 12,218 billion US$, 24,329 US$ per person. The rate of
economic growth is increasing in the last years, 2.8%(‘13), 2.0%(’12), 3.7%(’11). The
monetary unit is Won(₩), and exchange rate is 1,018₩/US$. Recent foreign credit
is 605,523 million US$, while total reserve asset is 346,459 million US$. In 2013,
the total trade volume was 1,075,210 million US$, aggregated by import, 559,649
million US$ and export 515,561 million US$. In 2012, the total trade volume was
1,067,657 million US$, summed by import, 519,581 million US$ and export 48,075
million US$.

AND FISHERY INDUSTRY The size of Korean Animal Health Products industry occupied approxi-
mately 2.2% of that of global market (23 billion $) in 2013. Since 2009, the annual
growth of 30 % average was recorded in export growth, and in 2011, we reached 100
million dollars, looking forward to 200 million dollars by 2015. Recently, 55 compa-
nies are exporting to 80 countries.
Currently, over 10,000 veterinary medical products are registered in the domestic
market, and the portion of swine is by far the largest by 41%, followed by avian, bo-
vine, and pets.

KOREA ANIMAL HEALTH PRODUCTS ASSOCIATION
KAHPA, founded in 1971, represents manufacturers and importers of
veterinary medicine and other animal health products. KAHPA has made
efforts to promote harmonized, science-based and innovative market place
for a provision of quality animal health products, therefore, contributes to a
healthy and safe food supply, and to a high standard of health and welfare
for animals and people.
KAHPA has tasks commissioned from the government-accepting item re-
ports, registering standard clearance schedule, and managing performance
of productions, imports, and sales for animal health products.
Breaking into the new world-wide export market is being emphasized,
and thus to enhance the potentiality of Korean companies, KAHPA is work-
ing with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA), and
Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency (QIA).
Manufacturing safer and quality guaranteed products, KAHPA promises
its utmost to the devotion in animal health products for the global public
health.

KAHPA
Livestock Exhibition
To recruit new buyers and maintain relationship with existing customers,
KAHPA and animal health product companies participate in five to six live-
stock exhibitions a year. Recent exhibitions such as, VIV, IPVS, LIVESTOCK and ILDEX were held in Vietnam, Netherlands, Mexico, China, and Indonesia.
Veterinarian Volunteering Activities
Vet volunteers are sent out to countries in lack of veterinary technology
and resources. Professors and students of veterinary medicine volunteer as
a medical team to treat surgically and internally, using Korean veterinary
products. Visiting countries show great anticipation and satisfaction to highly
developed skills of Korean teams and veterinary products.

Trade Meeting
The goal of this project is to construct personal networks and expand our
veterinary products export infrastructure within visiting countries. In 2013,
we visited South African countries-Kenya and Ethiopia, and in 2014, South
American countries-Chile and Peru with animal health product company
members and QIA for practical trade meetings and visit of government or-
ganizations.
Global Network Workshop
Foreign government officials whom in charge of approving our exporting animal health
products are invited for the Global Network Workshop. Through the workshop, we inter-
change information on the subjects of high quality of Korean veterinary products and manu-
facturing system, and information on importing system of the invited country.
Officials from South African countries (Ethiopia, Uganda) in 2013, and South American coun-
tries (Chile, Peru) in 2014 were invited for seminar and tour of our veterinary medicine prod-
uct manufacturing facilities.
