01. Domestic Survey • Republic of Korea is located in Northeast Asia (33ºN-43ºN latitude, 1264ºE-132ºE
longitude), with the size of 100,284㎢. The capital is Seoul city, with the polulation of
10.2 million, whereases, the whole population is 50.62 million. Korean is the main
language, written in Hanguel. Korea has a republic political system as a president.

• Current Korean GDP is US$1,304.3 billion and US$26,205 per person. The rate of
economic growth is increasing in the last years; 2.8%(’13), 3.3%(‘14). The mon-
etary unit is Won(\), and exchange rate is 1,105\/US$. In 2014, the total trade
volume was US$1,098,180 million; total of import, US$525,515 million and export
US$572,665 million. In 2013, the total trade volume was US$1,075,218 million;
summed by import, US$515,586 million and export US$559,632 million.

AND FISHERY INDUSTRY The size of Korean Animal Health Products industry occupied approxi-
mately 3% of that of global market (23.9 billion $) in 2014. Since 2009, the annual
growth of 30% average was recorded in export growth, and in 2011, we reached 100
million dollars, looking forward to 210 million dollars by 2015. Recently, 61 compa-
nies are exporting to 82 countries.
Currently, over 12,600 veterinary medical products are registered in the domestic
market. and the portion of swine is by far the largest by 40%, followed by avian, bo-
vine, and pets.

KOREA ANIMAL HEALTH PRODUCTS ASSOCIATION
KAHPA, founded in 1971, represents manufacturers and importers of
veterinary medicine and other animal health products. KAHPA has made
efforts to promote harmonized, science-based and innovative market place
for a provision of quality animal health products, therefore, contributes to a
healthy and safe food supply, and to a high standard of health and welfare
for animals and people.
KAHPA has tasks commissioned from the government-accepting item re-
ports, registering standard clearance schedule, and managing performance
of productions, imports, and sales for animal health products.
Expanding the global export market is being emphasized, and thus to
enhance the potentiality of Korean companies, KAHPA is working with Min-
istry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA), and Animal and Plant
Quarantine Agency (QIA).
Manufacturing safer and quality guaranteed products, KAHPA promises its
utmost devotion in animal health products for the global public health.

KAHPA
Livestock Exhibition
To recruit new buyers and continue relationship with existing clients,
KAHPA and animal health product companies participate in over 5 to 6 livestock exhibitions a year. Recent exhibitions such as, VIV, LIVESTOCK and ILDEX were held in Russia, Turkey and east Asia.

Trade Meeting
The goal of this project is to construct personal networks and expand
our veterinary products export infrastructure within visiting countries. In
2013, we visited South African countries-Kenya and Ethiopia, South Ameri-
can countries-Chile and Peru in 2014, and Uganda & CIS countries-Azerbai-
jan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in 2015 with animal health product company
members and QIA for practical trade meetings and visit of government organizations.
TRADE MEETING
GLOBAL NETWORK WORKSHOP
Global Network Workshop
Foreign government officials whom in charge of approving animal health
products are invited for the Global Network Workshop. Through the workshop,
we interchange information on the subjects of high quality of Korean veterinary
products and manufacturing system, and also on the product management and
importing system of the each invited country.
Officials from South African countries (Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda) in 2013, South
American countries (Chile, Peru) and Taiwan in 2014, and CIS countries (Azerbaijan,
Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan) in 2015 were invited for the workshop and tour of our vet-
erinary medicine product manufacturing facilities.
