Electrical sockets (outlets) in South Korea (the Republic of Korea / ROK) are one of the two European
standard electrical socket types: The "Type C" Europlug and the "Type E" and "Type F" Schuko.
If your appliance's plug doesn't match the shape of these sockets, you will need a travel plug adapter in
order to plug in. Travel plug adapters simply change the shape of your appliance's plug to match
whatever type of socket you need to plug into. If it's crucial to be able to plug in no matter what, bring
an adapter for all three types.
Grey (Ilban) or Haechi (Orange)Taxis:
Regular taxi fares begin at W2400* (in Seoul) and increase by increments of W100 according to time/distance (the basic fare covers the first two
kilometers of the trip and then W100 is added for each 144 meters). If the taxi is traveling at a speed lower than 15 kilometers per hour, 100 won is
added to the meter every 35 seconds.
Late night surcharge: Between midnight and 4:00 am, the basic fare is W2,880.
Black/Deluxe Taxis (mobeom)
The basic rate is 4,500 won for the first three kilometers, after which 200 won is charged for each 164 meters when the taxis is traveling
faster than 15 kilometers per hour, otherwise 200 won is added for every 39 seconds when traveling slower than this speed.
Jumbo (Van) Taxis
Passengers who are traveling in a large group or have excess baggage may choose to take a van taxi. These taxis have the same rate system as
the mobeom taxis and are the same color as deluxe taxi (black with yellow lettering). They are available on call, and, depending on the company
dispatched, a 1,000 won dispatching fee may apply.
International (Foreigners) Taxis
Fare rates are similar to those of Ilban (grey) taxis but with a 20 percent higher metered rate.
Flat rate fare of W65,000 available to go from the Incheon International Airport to Gwanghwamun (generally central Seoul area) in medium size
international taxi.
Flat rate fare of W95,000 available to go from the Incheon International Airport to Gwanghwamun (generally central Seoul area) in large size
international taxi.
Charter rates are also available: W50,000 won for three hours, W80,000 for five hours and a maximum of W200,000 per day.
Receipts are available from all taxis.. They are connected to the meter and therefore show the exact fare and mileage. The print out is quite
small. If the driver does not understand receipt, you can say it in Korean: yong-su-jung (means tax bill).
ALWAYS GET A RECEIPT In case you have left something in the cab, you can immediately contact the driver. The receipts all have a contact
phone number for the driver, usually a cell phone number, although a few show only a landline number. Your receipt can also help you identify
the driver should there have been a problem and you were unable to get the driver's ID before exiting the cab.
Payment can be cash, credit card or T-money regardless of the amount of the fare. Some drivers will say that their card reader is not working
and a few don't have one. This could be true or it could be that they are not legal taxis.
