Nuclear Data Needs in Korea
Fast breeder reactor project, namely Liquid Metal Fast Reactor, which is the
largest nuclear R&D program, requires quantification of cross section
uncertainties in their reactor designs.
Advanced Fuel Cycle R&D, which is strongly related to the fast reactor
project, needs up-to-date neutron cross sections of MA and fission products
Nuclear Safety and Security Commission was newly organized as a ministry
level after the Fukushima accident. The committee is emphasizing nuclear
safety and security and is promoting related R&D. Within this regard,
improving and updating the nuclear structure and decay data become
important.

Nuclear Data Center @ KAERI
Performs the measurement, valuation, processing and validation of nuclear
data which are requested by the various fields.
1 director, 11 permanent staffs (3 in evaluation, 1 in measurement, 2 in
atomic and molecular data, 2 in processing and validation, 3 in applications),
1 PhD student and 1 secretary.
Mission of KAERI/NDC is disseminating outcomes of international network
as well as promoting domestic nuclear data activities and related
applications.

Nuclear Data Measurement Activities
Conceptual design of Korea Rare Isotope Accelerator project will
be finished by the end of 2012. KAERI/NDC has a utilization plan
as follows:
Neutron data for GEN-VI
and fusion device using
mono-energetic and
spallation n source,
Nuclear data for waste
transmutation using In-
flight and ISOL facilities,
and
Nuclear data from
Surrogate reactions using
heavy ion sources.

Nuclear Data Activities
EXFOR compilation
The EXFOR compilation activity of KAERI/NDC is ongoing since
2009 under the guidance of IAEA/NDS. As of 2012, KAERI/NDC
has produced 25 entries
It consists of experimental data for neutron total cross section,
isomeric-yield ratio induced by bremsstrahlung, photo-fission yields,
and the production cross section by proton induced reactions.
NDC @KAERI
Summary
KAERI/NDC is disseminating outcomes of international network as
well as promoting domestic nuclear data activities
KAERI/NDC collaborates with IAEA and OECD/NEA, and the
foreign institutes such as ORNL and BNL
Various activities of the nuclear data evaluation, processing,
validation, and measurement have been performed such as:
Development of Evaluation Technique for Nuclear Reaction
Production of Evaluated Nuclear Data
Establishment of Validation System of Uncertainty and Production of
Group Constants
Operation and Design for Neutron Sources from eV to MeV energies
The EXFOR compilation activity of KAERI/NDC is ongoing since
2009 under the guidance of IAEA/NDS.
