Introduction

• Recall some of the things that you have learnt during the Keeping Ourselves Safe programme in primary school.

• The KOS Box - You can write any questions that you want answered on a piece of paper and ‘post’ them in the box. These can be anonymous. The police officer and I will answer the questions throughout this unit.

KOS Box ActivityOn a piece of paper write a time you, or someone you know, felt unsafe. No names are required. ‘Post’ these in the KOS Box.

Questions:

• What is the potential danger?

• What could the young person do?

In your group work through a flow diagram with to find what you think is the best and safest option for the main character.

Class DiscussionEach group will give their best option. Discuss the consequence of each option.

• Which do you think is the safest choice?

Group ActivityOn the sheet of paper are two more stories, ‘The Bullies’ and ‘At a Party’. In your group decide which story to read and work through.

Using the flow diagram we used earlier, work through it to find the best and safest option for the main character.

Role Playing Safety StrategiesIn your group choose one of the ‘What If…’ situations to role play.

The objective of the role play is to find a strategy to keep safe in that situation. Follow these steps:

• work out a scene for the situation

• allocate roles

• decide on a safety strategy to try

• role play the scene
