Principal Awards Congratulations to James (Y6) and Wesley (K) who re- ceived Bronze Awards at Friday’s assembly. It was also a pleasure to present Sabine Y6 with a Gold Award. These awards recognise their efforts and achievements in earn- ing regular weekly Assembly Awards. Well done to James, Wesley and Sabine! Park Safe Stay Safe Since early 2015 KSPS has participated in this Newcastle City Council (NCC) program to raise awareness and safe practice around school zones. The initial phase involved council officers visiting the school crossing zones and talking to parents; banners; and newsletter items. NCC parking officers will visit the school this week and next term to monitor drivers’ compliance with parking reg- ulations and will issue fines for breaches. While the school appreciates that parking outside the school is lim- ited, safety is of obvious concern. Your continued care to safely drop off and collect your child is appreciated. Colonial Day What a Colonial Day! Last Wednesday Stage 2 and 3 stepped back in time engaging in a day of fun Coloni-al Activities. Students made damper, pottery, mud bricks whilst learning what the historical classroom was like. They finished the day playing olden day games, listening to a yarn about bush rangers and participating in a bush dance. The day integrated learning about the Colonisation of Australia and the Gold Rush that the students have been learning about in HSIE. A huge thank you to the parents who shared antique

items and provided equipment for us to help make the day as realistic as possible. A special thank you to the mums and dads who help set the day up and assisted the students in the activities throughout the day, mak-ing it a colonial day to remember. Sports Colours Day The last day of term is an out of uniform day, Fri-day 18th September, Stage 3 are holding a gold coin fundraiser. As the finals of all the winter sports are occurring or have come to an end, students are ask to wear the colours of their favourite sport team. Woolworths Earn and Learn As you know, our school has been participating in the Woolworths Earn & Learn program. The program has now finished for this year, so a big thanks to everyone who supported our school. We're now at the important stage of the program where the Sticker Sheets are collected and lodged as our Earn & Learn claim. We will then be able to get new educational equipment for our school. The more we collect, the more we can redeem. So this week, please send in your Wool-worths Earn & Learn Sticker Sheets and any loose Earn & Learn stickers you may have. Remember to check your handbag, the car glove box or they may be stuck on the fridge. Every little bit helps. Thanks again for all your support! Stage 3 Bathurst Excursion Parents of Stage 3 students are invited to a parent information session about our upcoming Bathurst Ex-cursion. The parent information night will be held on Wednesday 14th October, 2015. The session will clarify any questions or concerns whilst outlining the itinerary and expectations of the excursion.

KSPS Gardens and Grounds Newsletter The date for the final Volunteer Day has been set! Our ‘Planting Day’ will be Sunday October 18th from 9am to 11am. We will be holding a Thank You BBQ for everyone who helps on the day and to recog-nise those of the school community who have helped make the school a great learning environment. Remember, if you are looking for a way to contribute to the expansion of the Primary Veggie Garden pro-ject then why not plant some SEEDS! Watch them grow over the next few months and then either come along to the volunteer day to plant them or donate them to the school for others to plant. Not sure what to grow? Well anything really, we will need herbs, flowers, vegetables; anything that you think will brighten up the gardens for the final months of the school year. We ask that plants be brought to the school the week before the Volunteer Day in October so you will need to care for them until then. But this is a great exercise for the children to ‘Get into the Garden’. Have a great break. Matt Playdon - KSPS Gardens and Grounds Group

Start date: TUESDAY Oct 13th (week 2) & ends on Dec. 8th (week 10). There will be 9 weeks of classes which will cost $88. Just to let you know that the children will do a perfor-mance in the auditorium at South's Merewether (46 Llewellyn St) on Sunday 13 December. There will be quite a crowd there and it will be a great opportunity for the children to show their 'chops'! Please keep this date free if you can and please help your child to find time to practice, just 2 x 5 minutes a week would be great! Also I have asked the school to give us a time during school assembly some time next term to perform.
