KPMG Ignition Centers
About the CentersKPMG Ignition Centers are unique environments that encourage technological creativity. With project-focused workspaces that foster inventive technology-driven solutions, these centers empower and inspire clients and KPMG team members alike. The spaces feature meeting, recreation, and project spaces to encourage creative thinking along with an open floor plan designed to enhance collaboration, both internally and externally.
There are currently four Ignition Centers located in Atlanta, Denver, Grand Rapids and New York.

Interacting with the Space“The David Trubridge lights, with their warm hues and nature inspired geometrics, enhance our overall design principle by bringing natural elements indoors to the workspace. When you enter KPMG Ignition, you instantly know you are in a place where the biases and limitations of traditional workspaces are lifted and the art of the possible thrives. The lights varied heights and sizes instantly draw your attention up and around which puts you in a more creative mood and makes you want to think about how you can interact with the space. The light fixtures perfectly align with our intent and one of the central inspiration themes of David Trubridge - to give people in the space a feeling of “reconnecting” with nature.”

The Kōura fixtures augment the natural light from windows and skylights creating a light and airy space. The fixture in the left foreground “bathes” in sunlight from a skylight with the color tone of the bamboo differing as the sun moves across the sky revealing an ever changing ambience in the space.
“The Trubridge lighting in the Atlanta Ignition Center really serves as a jumping off point that draws the eye up to the incredible tree canopy that really resonates with the theme of green living and Atlanta being the city amongst the trees. The light fixtures are pieces of art themselves with the level of detail and varying levels of size and strategic placement. They are one of the first things you see when you walk into the space, and it really sets the stage for the fun and fresh concept of the entire office.”

“The initial design intent was for the Trubridge fixtures to mimic playful lanterns hanging from a tree canopy. But they are much more than that. They help to constantly manipulate the feel of the space. As the light sequence progresses throughout the day, shadows from the fixtures combine with the tree canopy to create an environment that spans from bright and cheery to ethereal.…… the strength of the combination surpassed our expectations.”

Inspired by woven baskets and also from the curled form of the New Zealand native fresh water shrimp, Koura, which is its Maori name.

References the inner shell of the local salt water sea-urchin called kina in Māori which is often found washed ashore on New Zealand beaches.

“I work within the limits of what I have and know, simplicity and low impact, natural materials and processes, leaving a delicate footprint.”
These fixtures are part of the Seed System family. Seed System is a design philsophy developed by David Trubridge to minimizes the effects of shipping on the environment. This means thinking with this in mind right from design conception through to production, packaging and the consumer experience. On average every Seed System kitset is 1/30th of the size of a fully assembled light. The light is easy to construct by following printed instructions included with the kitset and an online video.
