Compete for cash prizes and an opportunity to perform with the CVSO. Follow in the footsteps of previous winners who went on to careers in music, medicine, education, and engineering. CHIPPEWA VALLEY SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA 2 Applicant must be 14 years of age by the date of the performance (February 1, 2020) and no older than 18 years of age at the date of the application deadline (November 16, 2019). A non-refundable fee of $10.00 (payable to the Chippewa Valley Symphony Orchestra) must accompany the application with a recording of the applicant performing the contest piece. The application must be postmarked by November 16, 2019. 3 The recording must be an audio CD or MP3 and be received in its container, on which should be printed legibly the contestant’s name and the title of the composition. The audio quality is the responsibility of the contestant. 4 Only the most qualified contestants will be selected to compete in the finals. Letters of congratulations or regret will be mailed to all entrants by November 23, 2019. 5 The finals will be held at Haas Fine Arts Center, UW-EC, Eau Claire, Wisconsin on Saturday, December 7, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. The finalists must perform the same work that was initially submitted on the recording. 6 Each contestant is responsible for bringing an accompanist. A grand piano will be available for those performing piano concertos. 7 There will be three judges for the finals. The judges’ decisions will be final. No winner may be declared should the judges find no contestant worthy of the honor. The judges may award Honorable Mentions should they so desire. Failing to adhere to the rules of this contest will result in dismissal from the contest. The results of the competition will be announced immediately following the finals on December 7, 2019. 8 Recordings will be returned to all entrants who include with their entry forms a self- addressed return envelope with adequate postage affixed. We recommend that padded envelopes be used for maximum protection of the CD. For comparable length, singers may choose to perform two arias. Any cuts in the score must be approved in advance. The orchestra material must be readily available for the orchestra to obtain. Previous winners cannot reapply. Those who have been Runners-up or have received Honorable Mentions in previous years are encouraged to re-enter the contest.
