EXTENDED CARE Additional $20 per week, per camper. Drop-off as early as 6:30am and pick-up as late as 6:00pm

LATE PICK-UPA $1 per minute late fee is charged for each minute a child remains at camp past 6:00pm (4:00pm if camper is not enrolled in Extended Care). Please allow plenty of time in anticipation of traffic or volume of parents at the Day Camp pick-up. If the child is not picked up by 7:00pm (5:00pm if camper is not enrolled in Extended Care), and staff are unable to reach the parents, Child Protective Services will be contacted.

DROP-OFF & PICK-UP PROCEDURESDrop-off and pick-up occur at the Recreation Field entrance between 7:45 and 8:30am Extended Care drop-off occurs in the Gymnasium Family Lounge from 6:30 - 7:45am Pick-up for all campers occurs at the Recreation Field entrance after 3:30pm

Parents arriving after 9:00am for drop-off or prior to 3:30pm for pick-up will report to the Day Camp Office to sign their child in or out and will be instructed where to go to meet their camper’s group. Please leave enough time, as pick-up may occur in the middle of an activity on the other end of campus.

Campers must be signed in and out of camp each day by an authorized adult in the presence of Kroc Center staff. Parents and authorized adults must present current photo I.D. when signing their camper(s) out. Children will be released only to those listed on the Camp Waiver form. Valid forms of ID include: California State I.D., Driver’s License, Military I.D., and Passport.

All changes to the list of adults authorized to sign out a child must be completed on the Change of Authorization form by the parent who enrolled the child in camp. Please be prepared to show identification when making changes.

Children must be 11 years or older to sign themselves out of camp. Parents wishing to give their children permission to do so may write the child’s name on the waiver in the space provided for authorized adults.

WALK-IN REGISTRATIONParents may register in person at the Gymnasium Guest Services Desk during regular operating hours: Monday - Friday 5:30am - 9:00pm; Saturday 8:00am - 6:00pm; Sunday 10:00am - 6:00pm

NOTE: Incomplete registration forms will not be processed. All enrollments are subject to space availability and no registrations are guaranteed. A non-refundable deposit is required to reserve a space in each camp and field trip.

REGISTRATION POLICIES& PROCEDURES

DEPOSITSA $25 non-refundable deposit per camp is required to reserve a space. A $10 non-refundable deposit is required for each field trip registration. Deposits are not transferable between weeks.

FEESPayment in full is due one week prior to the start of each camp or field trip, or registration and deposit are forfeited. Parents may reinstate enrollment (pending space availability) with a $10 late fee. Payment may be made by debit card, credit card or cash. Checks are not accepted for payment.

LATE REGISTRATIONA $10 late fee is applied to all registrations and balances paid less than one week prior to the session start date.

MEMBERSHIP DISCOUNTTo receive Day Camp membership rates, membership must be current for the camper, at the time of registration and remain current through enrolled weeks of camp. Membership information is available at the Gymnasium Guest Services Desk or online at www.kroccenter.org.

MULTIPLE WEEK DISCOUNTPurchase six weeks of Day Camp or more per child at one time and receive a $10 discount per week. Payment must be made in full at time of enrollment for discount to apply.

SUMMER CAMP SIGN-UP SPECTACULAR WEEKEND: EARLY REGISTRATION DISCOUNTFriday, March 11 - Sunday, March 13Register and pay in full for Summer Day

Camp and receive 10% off each camp enrollment (excludes Field Trips and Extended Care). Discount is not transferable between weeks. Registrations must be received during regular Gymnasium business hours to receive discount.

THURSDAY FIELD TRIPSSee page 22 - 23 for a list of Field Trips. Give your camper the opportunity to supercharge their experience and explore San Diego with new camp friends. Registration and balances are due one week prior to each field trip.

TRANSFER REQUESTSComplete the Change of Enrollment form for all Day Camp session transfers. Transfer requests are not guaranteed. Requests must be made one week prior to each camp. A $10 fee is applied to all transfers that occur less than one week prior to the start of the camp. Deposits are not refundable, nor transferable between weeks or campers, but will be applied for camps occurring during the same week as the original enrollment. Balances resulting from a transfer must be paid one week prior to the start of the camp.

CAMPER AGE POLICYCampers must be the age indicated in the Day Camp description by December 1, 2011 in order to enroll in specialty camp. Children must be at least 4 years old to enroll in PeeWee Camp. Children with special needs will be enrolled in age-appropriate camps. For more information on Inclusion, see page 9.

ENROLLMENT FORMEnrollment forms must be complete in order to be accepted. For Kroc Adventures, please indicate the age group in which child will enroll (for instance, a seven-year-old can be in KA 6-7 or KA 7-8). Fill in every space on both sides of the form, marking “N/A” in those spaces that do not apply.

General Information


HEALTH REQUIREMENTSAccording to ACA Accreditation Standards and California State Law, parents are required to provide health insurance policy information for each child, verification that immunizations are current, and the date of the last Tetanus shot. To ensure health and safety, parents are required to submit an updated form each camp season. An exemption waiver is required for parents who do not immunize due to religious beliefs or for other reasons.

PARENT GUIDE TO CAMPER SUCCESSThe Parent Guide to Camper Success provides information on camp policies & procedures. Parents are responsible for reading the Parent Guide and for reviewing camp policies with their child. Topics include signing in and out, behavior management, staffing, program contact information, and what to expect at camp. Parents may receive advance copies of the guide during registration at the Gymnasium Guest Services Desk or on the first day of camp. The Parent Guide can also be downloaded from www.kroccenter.org/day-camp. We encourage questions and requests for further information; please call 619.269.1460.

Families that cannot afford fees for Day Camp can apply for a discount. Eligibility for this program is based on income level and address verification within the Kroc Center’s service area. Applications are available at any venue Guest Service Desk or the Family Resource Center and should be submitted by the deadlines listed below. General Information


REFUND POLICY & CANCELLATIONSNo cash or credit card refunds are issued unless a Day Camp session is cancelled by the Kroc Center.

Cancellation at least one week prior to the start of a camp session: full credit on your Kroc Center account toward Kroc Center programs minus the $25 non-refundable deposit fee ($10 for field trips).

Cancellation less than one week prior to the start of the camp session: full credit on your Kroc Center account toward Kroc Center programs minus a $10 administrative fee and the $25 non-refundable deposit ($10 for field trips).

Credit applications are available at the Gymnasium Guest Services Desk and Day Camp Office and must be completed within one week of the cancellation.

No prorated credits will be issued for partial attendance at a camp session or missed days due to illness, behavioral issues, or any other reason. Credits are applicable toward any Kroc Center program, not redeemable for cash, will not be put on any credit card account, and expire six months from the date of issue.

GENERAL INFORMATION

AMERICAN CAMP ASSOCIATION (ACA) ACCREDITATION We are extremely proud to be an ACA Accredited Camp. This means that children are spending their summer in a safe and fun environment, supervised by well-qualified counselors. We have undergone a thorough review of operations, staffing, programming and safety. The ACA is the recognized leader in organized camps. For more information about the ACA and what accreditation means to parents and the community, visit www.acacamps.org.

DAY CAMP STAFFOur staff is as diverse as our campers. The majority of our staff members are recruited from local colleges and universities. Most importantly, our staff is made up of people who love kids. They want to spend their time playing, teaching, and working with children. All Kroc Center Day Camp staff members are certified in basic First Aid & CPR and receive extensive training prior to the start of camp. You can be sure that we are hiring the best of the best to work with your children.

INCLUSION The Kroc Center is committed to the inclusion of all children in our Day Camp Program. Parents of children with special needs should contact the Day Camp Manager at least two weeks prior to the desired session’s start date to determine whether the Kroc Center can provide appropriate accommodations and which camp(s) are best suited for him or her. Inclusion intake forms are available upon request or as a download on www.kroccenter.org/day-camp.

LUNCH PROGRAMLunch and a snack are provided to each camper and are included in the camp fees. If a camper is a picky eater, has allergies or has dietary restrictions, we encourage parents to pack a lunch from home. Choosing not to use this benefit will not reduce the price of camp. Meals are prepared hot on the premises each day and provide one third of the USDA daily recommended nutrition. At least one vegetarian option is available each day.

NOTE: Campers staying for Extended Care are often hungry due to the amount of energy expended throughout the day. Please send camper with additional snacks if staying past 4:00pm

General Information


MEDICAL NEEDSPlease include all pertinent medical information on the Registration Form, including prescription and non-prescription medications and allergies. If your child needs medications administered during the camp day, a Medical Information Form must be completed. Medication(s) must be in their original prescription container with the child’s name printed on the label, and placed in a plastic bag. Prescription medications are secured by our staff in the camp office. Parents can download the Medical Information Form from www.kroccenter.org/day-camp or request a copy from the Day Camp Manager. Parents may sign the bottom of the Medical Information Form to authorize campers to carry and administer his/her medications needed for life-threatening conditions such as an epinephrine injector (Epi-Pen) and asthma inhalers. Prior approval is needed for other medications to be carried by campers. Kroc Center staff will not dispense non-prescription medications without written parental consent.

STAFF-TO-CAMPER RATIOKroc Center Day Camp ensures sufficient staff-to-camper ratios based on American Camp Association guidelines and will not exceed 1:10. A minimum of two staff are always present, regardless of the number of campers.

WEEKLY CAMP THEMEWeekly themes are reflected during Morning Rally and throughout daily activities. We encourage children to get into the spirit of camp on Fridays by wearing a costume. Costumes should be age-appropriate, non-restrictive and allow for full participation in typical camp activities.

THURSDAYS IN THE THEATRE What better way to beat the heat, than to enjoy a few relaxing hours in a full-size movie theatre? Each Thursday afternoon, campers watch a movie in our Joan B. Kroc Theatre. Movies are selected based on appropriateness for the general camper population (G or PG), as well as the weekly theme. A complete list of movies is available at the Day Camp Office after the start of the camp season.

CLUB 3:16Sunday morning values, weekday fun! Kids can attend this session for FREE following the Day Camp Movie of the Week. Day Camp enrollment is not required to attend Club 3:16. Kids make crafts and hear more about the moral lessons found in popular movies. Taught by a representative of Kroc Church. For more information, call 619.269.1529 or e-mail [email protected].

FANTASTIC FRIDAYS AT CAMP Fridays offer campers new opportunities and exciting activities that may include participating in performances or supporting their fellow campers from Specialty Camps. On Friday afternoons, campers come together on the Recreation Field for a theme-related “All-Camp” activity. Activities and contests are planned collaboratively by the Day Camp Staff and are designed to be all-inclusive.

PEEWEE CAMPAges 4 - 5 PeeWee Camp is the perfect fit for children ready to take the next step. PeeWee Camp focuses on sharpening motor skills, improving group interactions and provides an introduction to athletics and arts & crafts. Campers will interact with the world around them, participating in hands-on gardening lessons in our own vegetable and flower garden. Each day offers a different taste of the activities available at the Kroc Center as well as the chance to unwind with some quiet time; campers are welcome to bring a comfort object or blanket (no valuables, please). PeeWee campers must be potty trained.

Fee: $150 / Members $175 / GuestsOffered: Weeks: 1 - 12

NOTE: PeeWee campers have the opportunity to swim at least once during each week. The only floatation devices permitted are one-piece suits with floatation sewn directly into the suit. Parents may not attend camp with PeeWees.

TRADITIONAL CAMPSThese camps offer a multi-venue experience with different activities every day. Choose from appropriate age groups and add to camper’s experience with our optional weekly Field Trips (additional fee) as detailed on pages 22-23.

NOTE: Due to the July 4 holiday, Week 4 will begin on Tuesday, July 5 and conclude on Friday, July 8. Enrollment fees for Week 4 will accordingly reflect $115 for members and $140 for guests.

Spiritual Discovery


SPIRITUAL DISCOVERY CAMPSThe mission of the Salvation Army is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination. Accordingly, this summer, the Kroc Center Day Camp will offer its campers the opportunity to discover and explore God’s Word through four different Spiritual Discovery Camps. Campers enrolled in a Spiritual Discovery Camp will spend approximately two hours each day in chapel and small group “huddle” times, examining exciting lessons from the Bible. The remainder of the day will be spent exploring other activities at the Kroc Center, which may include: ice skating, skateboarding, field games, arts & crafts, swimming, and rock climbing.

NOTE: Bibles will be provided (free of charge) for all campers enrolled in a Spiritual Discovery Camp.

TOUGH TIMES, TOUGH PEOPLEAges 7 - 14When times are tough, it takes tough people to trust and obey God. During each day of camp, participants will investigate an account from the Bible that focuses on a difficult situation. Through examining these accounts, campers will learn the importance of leaning on God when times are tough.

NOTE: Due to the July 4 holiday, this camp session will begin on Tuesday, July 5 and conclude on Friday, July 8.

FIVE SMOOTH STONESAges 7 – 14During this offering, campers will examine the battle between David and Goliath. In particular, campers will explore David’s decision to remove his earthly armor and instead use “five smooth stones” as his weapon of choice. Campers will be taught that the “five smooth stones” represent more than gravel - they represent a faith in God and His provision. Each day, campers will consider practical tools that they can use if a “Goliath” wants to engage them in battle.


THE ARMOR OF GODAges 7 - 14Each day, campers will examine a different piece of armor that God promises to provide for His soldiers. By the end of the week, campers will understand the critical Importance of prayer and that only soldiers in God’s army can have access to His armor.

THE BATTLE…THE VICTORYAges 7 – 14Everyday a battle occurs between the forces of good and the forces of evil. But did you know that the ultimate battle has already been won? In this offering, campers will explore the daily conflict between good and evil, and discover that Jesus Christ has already won the battle for the good of all humankind.

BASKETBALL - INTRODUCTIONAges 5 - 8An introduction for aspiring basketball stars. Strengthen basketball skills & make new friends in a positive environment. Work on jump shots, lay-ups, ball-handling skills, and participate in scrimmages. Parents are welcome to join us for a final game on Friday.

BASKETBALLAges 8 - 14Take your game to the next level! Receive coaching on ball-handling, lay-ups, jump shots, and offensive & defensive skills, all with an emphasis on sportsmanship and teamwork. Parents are welcome to join us for a final game on Friday.

Fee: $170 / Members $195 / GuestsOffered: Week 6 (July 18 - 22) Week 9 (August 8 - 12)

CHEER Ages 6 - 14Pump up your spirit because Cheer Camp is here! Learn basic cheerleading skills such as high-V, low-V, herkie, toe touch, and jumps in a fun and positive environment. Discover the importance of techniques such as the count, prep, and lift & land. Campers will be divided into groups based on age and experience level, exploring age-appropriate techniques. Parents are welcome to join us for a performance routine on Friday.


FOOTBALL Ages 8 - 14A non-contact football camp designed to develop skills for all levels of play. Fundamentals of all positions on offense, defense and special teams will be taught in addition to life skills such as teamwork, communication, sportsmanship and the importance of education. Parents are welcome to join us for a final game on Friday.

SPORTS CAMPSCampers enrolled in Sports Camps spend approximately three hours per day focusing on skills, practice and play of the particular sport. The remainder of the day is spent exploring other activities at the Kroc Center, which may include: field games, arts & crafts, swimming, and rock climbing.

Many Sports Camps have Friday games or performances for family and friends. Game and performance times are noted on the weekly schedule and take approximately 30 minutes. Parents planning to take children home directly following the event, must sign him or her out at the Camp Office prior to the event.

ICE SKATINGAges 6 - 9 & 10 - 14Discover a world on ice. Campers receive a 30-minute group lesson and participate in an additional two hours of public skating each day. Discover basic techniques such as: foot glides, two-foot turns, forward crossovers, T-stops, lunges and more. Dress warmly, gloves or mittens are essential.

KROC ROCKAges 6 - 14Perfect for junior thrill seekers! Rock climbing builds strength, flexibility, agility, confidence and self-esteem. Learn basic climbing techniques such as the smear, the side pull and body positioning for a better climb. Rock climbing safety equipment protocol will also be covered during this “high adventure” camp. All necessary gear is provided.

SKATEBOARDING Ages 6 - 14Drop in to San Diego’s only indoor skateboard park for a week of skateboard instruction and practice. Learn the basics of personal safety, balance & control of the board, and maneuvering on the ramps in a relaxed and safe environment. Campers will be divided into groups based on age and experience. After demonstrating competency in basic skills, campers will receive coaching on more advanced ground tricks and ramp work. All required safety equipment is provided. Parents are welcome to join us for a skills demonstration on Friday.

Learn the fundamentals of the world’s most popular sport, including rules, ball-handling skills, and strategy. Scrimmages will be fun, with an emphasis on teamwork and sportsmanship. Parents are welcome to join us for a final match on Friday.

SWIMAges 6 - 14 Learn water safety and swimming skills. Receive a 30-minute daily lesson from an American Red Cross certified instructor, plus additional recreation swim time to practice and have fun. Build skills in general water safety, water adjustment, breath control, kicking, floating, gliding, and paddling. Children must be comfortable swimming independently from a parent, in a group setting. All skill levels welcome.

VOLLEYBALLAges 8 - 14 Bump, pass and spike! Campers are introduced to the fundamentals of the game with an emphasis on sportsmanship and teamwork. Each session is devoted to specific skills, including: bumping, passing, setting, serving, and live scrimmage play. Taught by a former NCAA Division I volleyball player. All levels of players are welcome. Parents are invited to join us on Friday for a final match.

Specialty Camps


SPECIALTY CAMPSCampers enrolled in Specialty Camps will spend three to five hours per day exploring the lessons and activities of their specialty. The remainder of the day will be spent exploring other activities at the Kroc Center, which may include: field games, swimming, rock climbing, computers, and library.

Many Specialty Camps have Friday performances for family and friends. Performance times are noted on the weekly schedule and take approximately 30 minutes. Parents planning to take children home directly following the event, must sign him or her out at the Camp Office prior to the event.

ADVENTURES IN ARTAges 8 - 14Campers explore their uniqueness through the world of art. Dabble in various artistic media through hands-on creative opportunities that will bring out the art of everyday. Learn techniques such as perspective and basic color theory with challenging and fun projects, which may include acrylic on canvas, oil pastels, and mosaics.

CERAMICSAges 8 - 14Come and play with clay! Campers will be creative with their hands by molding clay into ceramic pieces to take home. Learn skills & techniques, make functional & beautiful objects, and explore the history & background of the techniques, uses, and firing methods used to create ceramics in other cultures.

COMIC BOOK ARTAges 8 - 14 Turn storybook imagination into dynamic art! Receive an introduction to facial expression and proportion through positive learning tools. Learn gradation into color, pen and ink, and basic perspective methods. Taught by a 17-year professional artist. Designed for artists of all abilities.


INVENTORS CAMPAges 6 - 14 Do you have the next great American invention? Start with an idea and then create the most amazing invention. Campers will have science programs and building activities to assist them in developing their own original inventions as well as creating new uses for already established products. KROC KIDS SUMMER DRAMA CAMPAges 8 - 14 Escape to a fantasy on stage with the story of Mulan Jr. Campers express themselves in a fun atmosphere, learning the fundamentals of theatre in this two-week intensive drama camp. Daily activities include song and stage rehearsal as well as fun acting games to help our young thespians learn their lines while waiting for their turn at rehearsal. The last day of camp includes a free 30-minute performance at 1:30pm in the Joan B. Kroc Theatre. Roles are plentiful; all skill levels welcome.

TOP COOKAges 8 - 14 Introducing Chez Kroc, a mythical fine dining restaurant at the Kroc Center. Spend the week working on recipes, participating in challenges and developing a restaurant. Create a menu from concept to plate, including a chaperoned shopping trip to a grocery store. Campers complete a kitchen safety orientation by Kroc Center Food & Beverage personnel. Who will be crowned as the Kroc Center’s Top Cook? Join us to sample the masterpieces at a tasting event on Friday. An ARIMAW Production.

URBAN RHYTHMSAges 8 - 14Percussion is one of the world’s oldest forms of music, as well as one of the most inspiring and accessible. Flip that old trash can and get out your beat, this camp will move campers in more ways than one. An introduction to creative percussion while focusing on character development. Taught by director, choreographer, and STOMP performer, Chris Rubio, of Chris Rubio Productions. Please join us for a special presentation for friends and family. in the Joan B. BIRCH AQUARIUM Ages 6 - 14 Depart for an underwater adventure and explore where the wonders of the ocean come alive! The day begins with a visit of San Diego’s own Birch Aquarium. Interact with hands-on exhibits that showcase research discoveries impacting our daily life here on Earth. Will you meet one of your comic book heroes while you are there? Sign up for this exciting field trip and find out.

Field trips are not included in the regular price of a camp, but give opportunities to supercharge a child’s week at camp. Lunch and snack are included. All field trips will depart from, and arrive back to the Kroc Center Recreation Field. Field trip participants should arrive 30 minutes prior to the listed departure time. Field trips will leave promptly. Flyers are distributed at sign-out the week of each trip, providing parents with special instructions. Enrollment in the current camp week is not a requirement for field trips, but a current Camp Waiver must be submitted and on file before departure.

All participants are required to wear their current Kroc Center Day Camp t-shirt and comfortable walking shoes on the trip. Campers should bring a backpack to carry their belongings, including: a change of clothes (especially for water trips), sunscreen, extra snack, and a shade hat. Campers are discouraged from bringing money; a few dollars is more than enough if your camper wants to stop by the gift shop.

A $10 non-refundable deposit is required to reserve a space in each field trip. Payment is due in full one week prior to each trip or you will forfeit your registration and deposit. Enrollment is dependent on space availability; campers will be enrolled on a first come, first served basis.

TEEN PROGRAMS

JUNIOR LEADERS (TEEN LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT) Ages 15 -17Explore various facets of what it takes to be a team-player and a leader in the community and among peers. During a one-week training session, teens will be exposed to real-life challenges and become a cohesive unit through teambuilding and challenge course initiatives. The session will focus on leadership skills relevant to supervising children in a camp setting and tips for leading activities. Teens will receive a full orientation at each Kroc Center venue, CPR & First Aid certification, and child abuse awareness training. Interested teens should complete the Junior Leader application form and submit it with a letter of recommendation and a one-page letter of interest in the program to the Gymnasium Guest Services Desk by Friday, May 13, 2011.

JUNIOR LEADERS After completing the training session, teens will have the opportunity to enroll in up to 10 weeks of Junior Leaders programming. These sessions will put their new skills to work through volunteering in day camp or around the Kroc Center. Teens will continue honing their leadership skills while working in camp groups, helping counselors lead activities and connecting with the children. Projects may also include planning and organizing special camper activities and experiencing the behind-the-scenes aspects of camp.

Work on improving both literal and critical thinking skills utilizing fun and engaging activities. A youth basketball league designed to help improve children’s sports skills while emphasizing fun, sportsmanship, teamwork, and the development of self-esteem. Offering recreational play to all skill levels — and everybody plays! All players must attend the first day of practice for skill assessment in order to be placed on a team. Teams practice on Monday & Friday nights, with league play on Saturdays. Session fee includes jersey, team picture, awards, and end-of-season banquet admission for participant.
