People of the Cross Orange Ribbon Campaign Thousands of innocent people in the Middle-East, Africa, the Indian Sub-Con nent, Indonesia, and the Philippines, have been brutally murdered (beheaded, burned alive, crucified) simply because they are followers of Jesus Christ. These killings have been carried out in the name of Islam, by extremist groups like ISIS and Boko Haram, for the purpose of “religious cleansing”. In August 2014, the Knights of Columbus launched the Chris an Refugee Relief Fund to provide shelter, food, medical care, and religious needs for displaced Chris ans and others. Since the fund’s beginning, over $8 million has been raised. The Mater Chris Council will be distribu ng orange awareness ribbons on the weekend of MAY 14 and 15 a er all Masses. The orange color is symbolic of the orange jumpsuits worn by 21 Chris ans who were beheaded on a Libyan beach in October 2015. WSPARCIE DLA PRZEŚLADOWANYCH CHRZEŚCIJAN W sierpniu 2014 roku, Rycerze Kolumba założyli fundusz „Chris an Refugee Relief Fund”, aby pomóc w zapewnieniu schronienia, żywności, opieki medycznej i potrzeb religijnych tysiącom niewinnych chrześcijan na Bliskim Wschodzie, w Afryce, Indonezji i Filipinach, którzy są brutalnie mordowani , tylko dlatego, że są wyznawcami Chrystusa. Od powstania tej inicjatywy zostało zebranych ponad 8 milionów dolarów, aby kontynuować tę pomoc dzisiaj po wszystkich Mszach św. będą rozprowadzane pomarańczowe wstążeczki, jako symbol pomarańczowych kombinezonów noszonych przez 21 chrześcijan, którzy zostali zamordowani przez ścięcie głowy na libijskiej plaży w październiku 2015 roku. “Mom & Dad, pray for me. Spirit, bring me home.” It’s a li le prayer I o en say before stepping in front of a crowd in a performance sort of way. I started saying it probably around 2005 when I was in grad school chasing down an M.A. in wri ng and composi on and needed to present various papers before my classmates. From there it carried over into my work life when my employer asked me to go on the road to talk about quality. And most recently I’ve been saying it whenever I pick up my guitar to play and sing in front of an audience. I whispered it to myself just a couple of nights ago, in fact, in Grayslake, IL at Wildwood Presbyterian Church. Besides being a professional piano instructor, my friend Rick is an accomplished pianist up at Wildwood, and this past Friday, he asked me to perform at their May coffeehouse series. I jumped at the chance. One song and one poem, and before each, I spoke it quietly, for no one to hear, “Mom & Dad, pray for me. Spirit, bring me home.” I believe that my folks are in heaven and that they have God’s ear. This covers the first half of my prayer. As for the second half, well, let’s just take a quick look at some of Spirit-ed references in the Book. Consider, Spirit of the Lord, Spirit of Wisdom, Spirit of Counsel. Consider Spirit of Understanding, Spirit of Strength, Breath of the Almighty. Consider Steadfast Spirit, Kind Spirit, Power of the Most High. And it’s important to remember that Jesus refers to the Spirit at least four mes in John’s Gospel as our helper or Advocate. Look at today’s second Gospel text op on (John 14: 15-16, 23-26): “Jesus said to his disciples: ‘If you love
me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you always.’” Some may cri cize me--or find me foolish--for praying for small things, but seriously, why wouldn’t I turn to the Spirit? For every thing? I snuck away by myself to tune my guitar as soon as my wife and I arrived at Wildwood that night. Just before I went on, Gail asked me if I was ready. “It’s in God’s hands, now” I said. I wasn’t joking. I’d prac ced my song and poem hundreds of mes--Rick and his professional musician friends prac ce their works thousands of mes--but stage fright is a very real thing. For me, anyway. Hence, the prayer. In more formal fashion--but to the same cosmic end, I’m convinced--the Church gives us the Sequence that we pray today: Veni, Sancte Spiritus (in part, “Come, Holy Spirit, come! And from your celes al home, shed a ray of light divine! Come, Father of the poor! Come, source of all our store! Come, within our bosoms shine…” and “O most blessed Light divine, Shine within these hearts of yours, and our inmost being fill! Where you are not, we have naught, Nothing good in deed or thought, nothing free from taint of ill. Heal our wounds, our strength renew…”). Jesus is ascended back to heaven, but he told us that our Advocate is with us always. Always. So from just remembering the words to finding a cure for cancer to facilita ng world peace, Veni, Sancte Spiritus. Spirit, bring all of us home.

BAPTISM:
For Children: a pre-Baptism class is required for Baptism of the first child. Classes are held in English on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:30PM in the Church, and in Polish on the last Tuesday of each month at 7:30PM in the Church. Following registration, the sacrament of Baptism is celebrated in English on the second Saturday each month at 6:00PM and on the fourth Sunday of the month at the 12:30PM Mass. The sacrament of Baptism is celebrated in Polish on the first Saturday of the month at 6:00PM and on the third Sunday of the month at the 3:00PM Mass. Please call the rectory to register at 773/622-5900. For Adults: Classes are taught through the Rite of Chr istian Initi-ation Program (RCIA) on Sunday mornings at 10:00AM.
