Three PathwaysPathway 1 for those students who may wish to

achieve the English Baccalaureate and progress to Higher education in the future.

Pathway 2 for those students who wish to maintain breadth in their curriculum without fulfilling the English Baccalaureate requirements.

Pathway 3 is available to selected students and provides the opportunity of maintaining breadth in the curriculum and completing vocational courses at Stroud College

BTEC Extended Certificate in Applied Science

equivalent to 2 GCSEs grade C and above.

Completed during Year 10 by some.

GCSE or BTECBoth are well established and valued in education

and employment.

Both have controlled assessment requirements.

GCSE courses have terminal examinations.

BTEC courses are taught in Units of work with end of unit assessment. (25% at the end of the 2 year course)

A BTEC Extended Certificate is currently equivalent to two GCSEs.

In some subjects GCSE is regarded as a better preparation for ‘A’ level.
