KSB SuPremE® – the world‘s most efficient magnet-less pump motor.

THE BESTEnergy savings of 70% or more are possible
The speed-controlled KSB SuPremE® motor works like an energy diet: The large
efficiency gain of up to 60% due to speed control is increased even further by
an energy saving of up to 30% in the motor alone.
Far ahead of its time
The motor meets tomorrow’s IE4 efficiency requirements (to IEC (CD) 60034-30
Ed. 2) already today, and hence exceeds the requirements of the European ErP
Regulation for 2017.
Sustainable
Built completely without magnetic materials, its total environmental footprint
is significantly smaller than that of permanent-magnet synchronous and
asynchronous motors.
Robust
The use of non-critical, durable materials, as well as the fully matured reluctance
principle make the KSB SuPremE® motor a durable, reliable drive that is in no way
inferior to other types of drive.
Compatible
Wherever there is room for an IE2 asynchronous motor, a SuPremE® motor with
identical connecting dimensions can also get the work done efficiently.
The clever interaction of the five modules of FluidFuture®, KSB’s energy efficiency concept, results in the highest possible efficiency of a pump system. KSB SuPremE® motors provide FluidFuture® with a drive allowing to run a system more leanly than with any other pump drive.

0302 Benefits
Analyses of existing pump systems have shown that most electric
motors are not run at their rated load point but mostly at part
load. In Europe, motors are normally operated at no more than
60% of their rated load. The efficiency regulations for electric
motors initiated by legislators all prioritise operation at the rated
load point. With its super premium efficiency at full load –
but above all with its high efficiency across the entire part-load
range – the KSB SuPremE® motor stands out as the lean alter-
native drive for the future.

Why is the world ready for the SuPremE® motor?
50% of all electrical power used in Europe is consumed by elec-
tric motors - of this figure, between 20 and 25% is used to power
pumps. At the same time, new and ever stricter EU standards
are adding to the pressure put on the efficiency of electric drives.
Which types of motor are covered by EU standards?
The requirements of EC Motor Regulation 640/2009 focus on
the asynchronous motors used in the majority of applications;
they completely ignore more efficient technologies such as
synchronous motors.
Not operation at rated load, but operation at part load
is of prime importance.
As a rule, efficiency measurements are taken at the rated load
point. On average, electric pump drives are operated at no more
than 60% of their total power output. Against this background,
KSB SuPremE® motors are the perfect alternative.
Frequency inverters eliminate the need for DOL starting.
KSB SuPremE® motors are always run at variable speed. Although
they also beat conventional asynchronous motors when operated
at rated load, the much more impressive energy savings are
achieved in the part-load range. The reason for this is that, unlike
asynchronous motors, they do not depend on DOL starting.
Reduced energy losses thanks to efficient rotor geometry.
The geometry of the rotor laminations of KSB SuPremE® motors
is designed for absolutely smooth, even and quiet operation.
Excellent overall ecobalance since no magnets and rare
earths are used.
KSB SuPremE® motors really do make a contribution to our
planet’s survival: they do not depend on magnets made of rare
earths. These are regarded critical materials and cannot be mined
without considerable environmental impact in the countries of
origin. The remarkably efficient motor concept by KSB, there-
fore, scores extremely well in ecological assessments evaluating
the machine’s total life cycle, from its manufacture via the service
phase to its disposal as scrap metal. An independent PLCA study
has confirmed this.
PIONEERWhilst the legal efficiency requirements of the EU are imposing ever more excessive restraints on system operators, KSB SuPremE® motors give your system more air to breathe. Designed on the basis of the synchro-nous reluctance principle, they can be operated so leanly that asynchronous and magnet excited synchronous motors cannot keep up. And the environment also benefits from the energy diet: As the new KSB SuPremE® generation is made entirely without ecologically harmful rare earths, its ecobalance is excellent.
0908 Innovation
PumpDrive speed control system.KSB’s PumpDrive, which has proven to be very effective in combination with an asynchronous motor, adjusts the speed of the motor – and with that the pump’s flow rate and head – to match current demand. KSB SuPremE® is the only synchronous reluctance motor with a motor-mounted speed control system.
Quiet rotor geometry. The matter-of-fact designation US patent 5.818.140 pertains to the special cut of the laminated rotor core. It is enormously effective, allowing only extremely little torque ripple (1-2%) for extremely quiet operation.
HIGH-TECH
As far as the use of resources is concerned, it is the sum total of all of its technical features that make the KSB SuPremE® the lean motor it is. Less material – more know-how; that is what drives this motor. And the optimum interaction with the PumpDrive speed control system makes it the motor of choice for our energy turnaround era.
Comprehensive performance range – KSB SuPreme® motors are avail- able in the IEC power ratings from 0.55 to 45 kW

Environmentally friendly, magnet-less design principle.KSB SuPremE® motors have an outstandingly small total environmental footprint. Their non-use of magnetic materials makes them much more sustainable than per-manent-magnet synchronous motors and asynchronous motors.
Durable and robust. The reluctance principle is fully matured. Thanks to the use of non-critical, durable materials, KSB SuPremE® motors are as robust as asynchronous motors. Their lack of sensors additionally reduces the probability of failure. And the lower temperature of the rotor has a positive effect on the service life of the bearings.
1110 Features
FluidFuture® aims at raising system efficiency, i.e. the efficiency
of your entire pump system. To this end, we have developed five
modules that will help us identify potential savings right through
the life cycle of your pumps and valves: Our portfolio starts with
an analysis of your system, then looks at selection, the use of
high-efficiency hydraulic components and high-efficiency drives
such as the KSB SuPremE® motor, and finally ensures demand-
driven operation of your system.
SYSTEMOf all the drives available, the new KSB SuPremE® motors most deserve to be called “low-energy drives“. Our FluidFuture® energy efficiency concept is the overriding dietary concept that will make your entire pump system slender.
