This is a report about the status and activities of Yayasan KIDS in implementing the YKIP/YKIDS Educational Fund Program and the achievements of this program. This report is for the period of January 1 - December 31, 2009.

Yayasan KIDS (Kuta International Disaster Scholarship) is a non profit charitable foundation, set up by volunteers who are also employees of PT. COURTS INDONESIA, Tbk, an international retail company that sells electronics and furniture. COURTS is a specialist retailer currently operating in numerous countries around the world and quoted on five different stock exchanges, with its head office based in London, UK. Yayasan KIDS supplies the people power and volunteers who organize events for the children and their families. YKIP does international fundraising for this project and pays for a full-time administrative field officer and operational costs.

So that all the children have a better future from the best education available through these scholarships. VISION

MISSION

AIMS

To provide a guaranteed education scholarship for all children of those people who were killed, are missing or were permanently

thdisabled by the bomb blasts in Legian, Bali on October 12 , 2002 stand in Kuta and Jimbaran on October 1 , 2005.

Invite the world to help the children of the 202 bomb victims in Bali to have a chance at education and to ensure help gets directly to those who need it the most.

?To provide for the educational needs of children who lost a thparent in the Bali bombing on October 12 , 2002.

?To provide for the educational needs of children who had a permanently injured parent by the Bali bomb.

?To provide (if there are surplus funds) for the educational needs of other needy children in Bali or to assist selected educational institutes.

At the end of 2009 there were 53 semi-orphaned children from 24 families and 8 children from 6 families where one parent has been disabled or injured due to the bomb blast who received assistance through YKIP/YKIDS Educational Fund program. 52 children are from the Bali Bombing 2002 and one child is from the Bali Bombing 2005.

Initially, YKIP-YKIDS also funded educational needs for those children of injured parents from Bali Bombing 2002. The agreement was that funding would be available for this group until they regained employment. These 45 injured parents have returned to work (most of them at the renovated Paddy's Pub) and therefore their children have been released from the program (this was already a prior arrangement with these families and they were well aware that this assistance would cease upon re-employment).

The children from Bali Bombing 2005 (excluding Ni Wayan Cantika Sari Putri) were supported through educational insurance policies worth approximately Rp. 5.250.000,- each for 26 children, purchased from Allianze Education Insurance to help them continue their schooling. Funds for this insurance came from PT. Courts Indonesia, Tbk, YKIP and the Quicksilver Charity Event donors with a total amount of Rp 147.765.017. Only Ni Wayan Cantika Sari Putri who lost her father by the 2005 tragedy will continue to receive scholarship funds until she finishes studying at University.

Below is the current data of children supported by this fund:

The founders of Yayasan KIDS are David Wood and Pra Fajarini with Sara Pramana and Endarto Budiadi as the managing executives. All of these people were employees of Courts. Endarto resigned in October 2003, and Sara resigned in 2006. In 2007, there was one paid administrative officer, Ni Putu Sherlyana, who was in charge of taking care of all payments and communicating with the families. Sherlyana resigned from her position In October 2008. She was replaced by Sri Damayanti (Ida) who started working in July 2008. The latest head of YKIDS was Purwanto. He was the marketing manager of Courts Indonesia. As he resigned from his position at Courts, he is no longer the YKIDS Chairman. The new boards' structure of KIDS Organization is still in the formation process.

In this academic year 2009/2010, there were 48 schools that were visited every semester to do payments. However, due to the school's location, some payments were paid through bank transfers, especially for the schools in Java. Besides making the payments, we also met with the teachers of KIDS's children to see if they need any additional assistance. We also procure their report cards so we can monitor their scholastic progress.

KIDS’ PROGRAMS & ACTIVITIES

SCHOOL VISITS & PAYMENTS

The Field and Admin Officer also makes payments, collects receipts, and monitors the child's progress. These payments cover building fees, school fees, school books, stationary, uniforms, shoes, socks, school bags, extra lessons and others.

Below are the details about the number of schools based on area.

We conduct regular family visits to all families' homes. During these visits, we make sure that they are doing well, listen to their problems and try to assist as much as possible.

Family visits for 2009 were targeted as follows:Families in Denpasar area were targeted to be vis ited once a month. However, in the implementation it was quite difficult to meet the target during the peak season of school payments which happened in January - March and in July - September.

During families visits there were some issues found such as:a. Some children who'd been struggling with studying at school. Their marks are on average below 6.5 (KIDS

Standard). We followed up this issue by providing them with private tutorials. Some children were tutored by Ketut Cakra Usada (former YKIP staff who keeps volunteering his time for KIDS project especially for KIDS Gathering event). The children tutored by Cakra are: Nyoman Purnama Dinata (grade 5), I Made Awan Juliantara Putra (grade 4), Kadek Wina Pawani, Kadek Apriliani and Komang Sustapeni. Made Awan, Kadek Wina, Komang Sustapeni and Kadek Apriliani have shown much improvement since having private tutorial. Other KIDS children who have grades below 6.5 are Garil, Dinda and Dewi Yuliani and were tutored by other teachers. Dewi showed much improvement that could be seen from her national exam's achievement. However Garil and Dinda showed very little improvement. They will have their national exam in 2010. We will try to find another alternative to assist them in preparing for their exam. Besides having tutorial at school for exam preparation, we will try to help to find appropriate tutor for them (if funds permits).

b. Gede Subagia's mother, Ni Luh Candrawati decided to get married again this year (seven years after the death of Gede's father in Bali Bombing 2002). Gede Subagia and his brother, Kadek Widnyana have been looked after by their uncle (his late father's relative) since her mother get remarried. As the children must follow the father's family, this is not an unusual practice. As Gede did not actually agree with his mother's decision to get married again, he did not want to communicate with his mother for a couple of months. However he has not shown much improvement by the end of 2009. In addition, Gede is one of KIDS's children who received one unit computer donated by one anonymous donor.

c. Hendy Hartoyo decided to change his degree from political science to law. As he was still in the beginning of his university career, this did not have any ill effects. He prefers to study law after having much discussion with his seniors in the school.

d. Ibu Wayan Leniasih (Novi and Indra's mother) finally could find the way to overcome her family daily cost by opening up tutorial class for kindergarten student at her home. She is a kindergarten teacher. She's been struggling for many years (since the death of her husband) in fulfilling her family needs especially in giving nutritious food to her children. She once tried to open a small stall in front of her house in which the capital was come from one donor's donation. However it did not run well as she did not feel competent in this area. Now, by opening the tutorial class she is able to feed her children much better.

e. Indra (Leni's son) who was struggling with his self-esteem as he felt that he was very dark and that made his friends stay away from him and felt very inferior for not having a father) has shown a lot of improvement in the last year. Donors Krystine and Charlie's visits have helped improve Indra's socialization process. Charlie

FAMILY VISITS

(Krystine's son)'s acceptance of Indra has encouraged Indra to not feelI nferior about himself as not all people see him based on his skin colour or parents' status.

f. Novie (Leniasih's daughter) was also struggling with her self-esteem. In fact, she is quite talented in singing, dancing and drawing. She's also good in academics. However, due to her self-esteem she could not develop her skills properly. Fortunately since Novie joined a drawing class that was facilitated by KIDS, she started showing much improvement. Novie with six other KIDS's children, Alief, Aldi, Awan, Wulan, Idat and Izzul joined the drawing class. Sumber Seni foundation provided the drawing class and has experience in conducting art therapy through drawing. This foundation has worked in Aceh (after tsunami) for helpiong children in Aceh in deal with their trauma. Joining this class has made Novie see that she does have talent. She then started joining some drawing competitions and won some of the competitions.

g. Limna Rarasanti. Before finishing her national exam at the Senior High school level she was very motivated to continue her study at tourism school. However, after having discussion with her friends, she tried to apply to a three year diploma program at the informatics management school. She passed the test and finally became a student at STIKOM. However, she confessed that she's still struggling in following the lessons especially when in mathematics subjects as she did not pay much attention to this subject while she was in Senior High school. Fortunately, she keeps motivating herself to study hard. She needs to be continuously monitored in 2010.

h. Yulia. Her dream of getting a nursing degree will become a reality as she was accepted at a private nursing school in Denpasar. The biggest issue for Yulia to be able to study at this school was education costs. The allocated KIDS Budget is not enough to cover 100% of her educational costs as her mother who works as seamstress is also struggling with their family financial condition. Fortunately STIKES Wira Medika waived the school entrance fee of Rp 12.000.000 In addition, Yulia also got additional support from a private donor, Education for the World in USA, which donated Rp. 18.000.000 for Yulia's education.

i. Kiola and Jay moved from CHIS school to Lollypop/Sekolah Lentera Kasih. Since they transferred to the new school, they showed much improvement in their academicwork. Their marks now avaerage seven. In addition, Natalie (Kiola's mother) was remarried with a Balinese guy in June 2009 and she has a son from that marriage.

j. Gusti Ayu Indah Mertasari. She finally could pass the national exam after having moved to a new school two times. However, she did not study well during the first semester of university. She came to school only for one month. Because of this, she was punished by not being able to join the final exam in that semester. She could study again in January 2010. However, due to her attitude, KIDS would not pay for her education cost in second semester (January 2010). KIDS will support her again in July if she could show good improvement which can be seen from her attendance at school and her grade point academic (GPA).

k. Made Awan Juliana. He repeated his third grade of elementary in academic year 2008/2009. Because of this condition, he was given private tutorial by KIDS. After having tutorial for about 3 months, he finally could pass his grade three. He keeps being tutored through KIDS's mentor, Cakra.

Families in Badung and Tabanan area were targeted to be visited once in two months and it has for the most part, been successfully done on schedule. One Family in Karangasem was targeted to be visited once in three months and it has successfully been done on schedule.

Six families in Java were targeted to be visited once a year and it has successfully been done on schedule.

The Education Insurance is a special program that has been conducted by YKIDS in partnership with Bumiputera Insurance. It was established before YKIDS started working with YKIP on the KIDS program. It aims to provide educational support for children who are not yet school-age (are under four years old as of 2003). Since it was established, seventeen children have benefitted through this program and are expected to be able to continue their studies through university. The parents cannot cash this in, but rather they hold the certificate as proof of the educational savings plan for their children.

This program is the same as the Education Insurance program. The Educational Savings Plan is provided through Niaga Bank for all children from infancy through Junior High School (SMP). The parents cannot cash this in, but rather they hold the certificate as proof of the educational savings plan for that child. YKIP-YKIDS cashes it in at the beginning of the Primary and Secondary school years to pay the school fees.

KIDS's children who are studying at the Senior High school level are often confused thinking about their future especially about what will they do after graduateing from Senior High school, either looking for a job or continue studying at university. Then, if they decide to continue their study at university level, where they will study and what kind of degree they would like to choose is the next hurdle to jump. Unfortunately their schools could not alwayas assist them to answer that question . KIDS as the organization who provides education support for the children is really concerned about this situation. We are trying to encourage their awareness about this situation and help them to be able to choose their future career independently.

The initial Career Day workshop was held in February 2009. Twenty one senior high school children attended this workshop, eight are from the KIDS program and the others are from the Kembali program.

The children of parents who were injured or killed in the Bali Bomb 2002 have to grow up in the family with trauma. Consequently, both the children and the parents have to deal with a traumatic situation in order to move on their life. This is a huge challenge to the single parent in parenting their children.

The widow/widower who was left behind by their spouse has to work out in two situations. The first one is how s/he, as a single parent, could provide a supportive atmosphere in their family so that the children could grow up comfortably as the children might be struggling with healing themselves out of their trauma. The second one is how those individuals who were left behind by their spouse could heal themselves from their own trauma. This will influence their emotional condition.

On the other side, parents with unstable emotions will impact their parenting style. Consequently, it will influence their children's behavior as well as their performance at school.

The parents raised the big question about how they could deal with their emotions and how they could raise their children with effective parenting style.

CAREER DAY WORKSHOP PARENTING WORKSHOP

The workshop aimed to open the awareness of the participants about all the possibilities they could find after graduating from Senior High school. The participants were able to know more about the job opportunities available with certain university degrees and the opportunity to develop themselves in the area they have chosen including the challenges they might face during their study at the university and in their career development.

Five guest speakers were invited to give their presentation regarding their chosen job. They were: Hendry Danghamsyah (CEO of Hotel Karthi), Nazrina Suryani, Phd (Lecture at UNDIKSA Singaraja), dr. I Made Oka Negara (Udayana University), Badia Gunawan (YKIP), and Yogi W (Mitrais).

This first parenting workshop was held this year on th11 March to increase the parents' knowledge and

awareness of different kinds of parenting styles they should be concerned about and could be applied to their children with trauma background so that the children will be motivated to do their their best in their education.

Thirteen participants came to the workshop. They seem to enjoy attending the workshop. This was evidenced by the many questions they had.

Two guest speakers were invited to facilitate the discussion. The first discussion which was facilitated by Dra Reno (the psychologist) aimed to discuss about the influence of parenting style on the school performance of the children. She focused on discussing the ten principles of parenting style. The second discussion was facilitated by Dr. Nyandra (the psychiatrist). He focused more on the traumatic feelings that can affect the children's emotional state and the parenting style of the parents and how to deal with that situation.

The KIDS Gathering party is a regular activity that is held once a year. It aims to gather all KIDS families to have fun together as a KIDS family.

This year, the KIDS Gathering party was held at Bali Outbound & Farmstay (BOF) in Baturiti, Tabanan,

thon Saturday, 20 June 2009.

The objectives of this event were:

?To maintain the relationship between

YKIP/YKIDS and all KIDS families and the

relationship among the KIDS families.

?To celebrate the birthdays of all the KIDS'

children.

?To distribute the school supplies for the KIDS

children. The school supplies consist of

stationeries, bags, shoes socks, and belts.

?To develop the creativity and the sense of

teamwork of the children through games.

The Australian Consulate General in Bali held the commemoration of the seventh anniversary of the

thBali bombing 2002 on Monday, 12 October 2009. Representatives from Indonesia, Australia and other nations who lost people in this tragedy gathered together in the memorial garden of the Australian Consulate.

Wayan Rastini, the widow of Ketut Nana Wijaya, with her daughters, Linda and April and accompanied by the YKIP/YKIDS Field and Admin Officer and YKIP Director Rucina Ballinger attended the Memorial Day at the consulate. Together with other invitees, they placed bouquets of flowers at the wooden cross to commemorate the tragedy. After spending time at the Consulate, we went to the Ground Zero. Wayan and her daughters placed some flowers in front of the memorial wall. They also prayed for their beloved late husband and father.

In 2009, three donors visited their sponsored children.

Michael Ballinger and Scott Edmundson and friends through their organization, Education for the World based in San Diego gave funds to cover Yulia's additional school expenses that KIDS does not cover (we have a ceiling that we provide to each student). By having this donation, Yulia can now study without getting worried about her fifth year at the university. Now, Yulia joins the students that receive regular support from the Education for the World foundation.

Michael Ballinger founded the Education for the World foundation in 2006. It is a charitable organization based in California, which provides college scholarship money for women around the world, especially those with financial or other life challenges. Their current focus is to help children in Bali, Indonesia. More information about this organization can be read on :www.educationfortheworld.org

Yayuk's Operation

One of the 2002 Bali Bomb injured victims, Ngesti Puji Rahayu, went to Perth, Australia for further surgery on her skin, which had been badly burned in the 2002 bombs. Dr Ossy Abu Bakar had done the preparation, communicating with the doctors at Mount Hospital and getting all the paperwork in

rd thorder. They stayed in Perth from 23 February to 6 March 2009. Dr. Mark Duncan-Smith organized the free skin graft for Yayuk. All expenses required for p r e - d e p a r t u r e p r o c e s s a n d f o r f o o d , accommodation and transportation when Yayuk and Dr. Ossy were in Australia were covered by YKIP through a donation from the Casa Luna Relief fund.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

After the operation, Yayuk has been hoping and praying for her additional second-skin for her injured arm. After getting further skin surgery on her arm which was badly burnt in the 2002 bombings, Yayuk must wear second-skin for a specific amount of time. She had an operation in Perth at the Mount hospital in February of 2009. She had only one second-skin which is not enough as she needs to wash it. The Second Skin company came through with an additional second skin for her. She is very excited about this news. On behalf of Yayuk, we would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation and thank you to the second-skin company that has enabled Yayuk to reach her dream.

Second Skin is a company based in Perth, Australia that provides customized compression garments to clients with burns, trauma and lymphoedema and Dynamic Splints for children and adults with neurological conditions. More information about this company can be read on www.secondskin.com.au

Chusnul's operation

Sponsored by the Casaluna Relief Fund, I b u C h u s n u l w a s finally able to obtain her follow up surgery t o r e m o v e t h e schrapnal in her left foot. Due to the bomb in 2002, she was heavily injured and needed to be operated on more

than once. The final thing she was concerned about was the remainder of the schrapnal that was still in her foot. After the surgery she is now able to walk much more comfortably without constantly feeling pain. She no longer needs the tri-monthly injections in her foot..

Sewing Machine distribution

Eight sewing machines were donated by Caroline Miksch of Pelangi in Ubud for the KIDS' family. YKIP distributed the sewing machines to the following parents of KIDS's children Ibu Wayan Rastini, Ibu Ritiasih, Ibu Ni Luh Mendri, Ibu Endang Isnanik, Ibu Tumini, Ibu Chusnul Chotimah and Ibu Nurlaila.

Ibu Wayan Rastini and four other widows started Adopta Co-Op organization in February 2003. Since that time, they have produced a range of products using their sewing skills. Ibu Wayan usually goes to Adopta every morning at 11.00 and works until 06.00 pm or even more than that time if she and her friends need to finish the order on time. However, as she has spare time before going to work, she can now work at home on orders thanks to this donation.. “Thank you very much for the donated sewing machine that has helped me to cover my family daily needs especially for my children's (Linda and April) pocket money,” she said.

Ibu Ritiasih has been running her sewing business in sewing long before her husband perished in the bomb. This business has become her family's main source of income now. She works with a garment manufacturer and also gets orders from schools. With the donated machine, she and both her daughters can handle large orders now.Ibu Mendri and Ibu Tumini are two other women who received the donated sewing machine and they are using them to teach themselves how to sew to supplement the income they have now.

Ibu Wayan Rastini and Ibu Ritiasih have used the machine for developing their business in tailoring business.
