Ascension of the Lord
Living with Hope & Faith: Our Parish Family
Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Patrick: With the coming of Memorial Day Weekend, our thoughts often turn to the events of summer. Family picnics, days of relaxing at the beach, family vacations and getaways, a round of golf, a baseball game or two, or just curling up with a good book on our front porch all seem so appealing. As we enter into this spirit of summer, I’d like to invite you to join me in beginning it with prayer and our focus on our loving God. Monday, May 29th, Memorial Day at 9 A.M., I invite you to join me for a special Mass honoring all of our beloved dead, especially those who died for the freedoms we share in this country. Weather permitting, we will gather at St. Patrick’s Cemetery located off of Bluff Road. Please remember to bring a lawn chair with you for comfort. Following the Mass, all of the graves will be blest with holy water by me and members of our pastoral staff to celebrate the lives of our loved ones. Should inclement weather become an issue, the Mass will take place in the church at 9 A.M. At 11 A.M. on Memorial Day, there will be a ceremony hosted by the village to remember all of the men and women of our military who paid the ultimate sacrifice with their lives so that you and I might live today in freedom. I have been asked by the Commander of the VFW and some of his colleagues, to lead the invocation for this service. I was humbled by their invitation. Following the ceremony, all are invited back to the VFW Hall for a wonderful luncheon. I hope to see you there.
My thanks to the “artists” (over 40 in number) who came out for our community to participate in the Pallet Painting Party. I heard a great time was had by all. Special “KUDOS” to Ms. Sarah Alvestad and Ms. Fran Sarno,
who came up with the idea and coordinated the event. The real winners of the evening were our school children as all proceeds are going to benefit them. I also have a lasting memento of the evening as Fr. Tom Hoffman’s creation sits proudly on display in our Parish House Dining Room. Photos from the event will be in our bulletin next week. Speaking of our young people, next Friday evening, June 2nd at 7 P.M. a special Mass of Graduation will be taking place in our church for the class of 2017 from St. Alphonsus/St. Patrick School. As we celebrate with these gifted and talented young people the many accomplishments achieved in their grade school years, we offer our prayers and blessings for a bright and hopeful future! Good luck to all! Lastly, in a special feature column focusing on vocations in the Church, this summer in our bulletin, I have asked all of our Pastoral Staff members to share why they feel called to serve the church and the Lord when their gifts and talents could have taken them elsewhere. I think you will enjoy seeing this “personal side” of those who really make up the core of the “Spirit of St. Patrick.” The first to share her story, probably as no surprise to anyone, is Mrs. Sue Raymond who so generously takes on the responsibilities of “many hats” here at St. Patrick.
With love and gratitude,
Our 2nd Grade RE Class
Our 2nd Grade School Children
*Note: Combined group photo was blurred.
On Saturday, May 6th, our 2nd Grade School and Religious Education programs combined to receive Christ in the Eucharist for the first time. Please keep our children and their families in your prayers as they continue their journey with the Lord.

Thank you for your much-appreciated baby gifts donated to our Spiritual Adoption baby shower. Your generosity will make many mothers of young babies very happy. If you forgot to bring your gift to church, please drop it off at the parish office this week. Gifts donated through the baby shower will be given to Waterleaf Women’s Center in Aurora. Upon their arrival at the Center, Waterleaf supplies each mother facing an unplanned pregnancy with a package of necessary items and a small stuffed animal for their baby. Thank you for the baby gifts and for praying for your spiritually adopted child throughout these nine months. Someday we will know how much our prayers helped.

Starting June 4th 2017… CHILDREN’S MASS at St. Patrick Church! Starting next week, we will be implementing a Children’s Mass at Saint Patrick Parish. The Children’s Mass will be the 10 am Mass on the First Sunday of each month. Our first Children’s Mass will be next Sunday, June 4 at the 10 am Mass. All children will be invited to participate in three parts of the Mass: 1. Prior to the beginning of Mass, an announcement will be made to have all the children join Father and the Deacon in
the West Narthex to be in the Opening Procession. 2. At the beginning of the Homily, the Homilist will invite the children to come forward to sit in front of the Altar for a
Children’s homily. 3. Just prior to the offertory hymn, Deacon Larry will invite the children to follow him to the back of the church to join
in the procession with the gifts and then to gather around the Altar. The Children will be encouraged to witness an upfront view of the Mass. They will be asked to return to their pews after the Our Father is prayed to join their family for Holy Communion.
We hope you will enjoy our children’s Liturgy and that our Children will benefit from a more rewarding religious experience at Mass.
Regards and God Bless, Deacon Larry and Roseanne Oskielunas, Liturgy Coordinators
