1 PURPOSE
This document describes the implementation of L3 BSC site connectivity for BSC3i 1000/2000 from T3 (L2) to T6(L3) topology with respect to cabling changes, SWU configuration changes, BSC configuration and Site switchconfiguration.

3 USING THE DOCUMENT
3.1 General info
The L3 BSC IP Site Connectivity upgrade is done manually without the HIT macro. Procedure must be performedlocally at BSC site.

4 INTRODUCTION
The L3 feature purpose is to make BSC IP integration easier to operator IP backbone and simplify ESBconfiguration.This upgrade requires some cabling changes and the topology for BSC3i1000/2000 is changed from T3 to T6.The L3 BSC IP Site Connectivity upgrade procedure consists of the following tasks:
- Fallback copying of the current software
- BSC configuration printout (pre-check)
- L3 BSC IP Site Connectivity upgrade
- Actions after upgrade and post conditions
o BSS Integration

4.1 L2 configuration before upgrade
L2 connectivity is provided using traditional L2 functions such as MSTP and VLAN. Corelinks uses trunk VLANs,while loops are eliminated by MSTP.MSTP instance roots are in Site Switches, while each SWU calculates the best port to access the root. MSTPincludes 2 instances, which are used to categorise VLANs to both Site Switches. Virtual gateway termination is inSite Switches.

The interface between the CPU/PCU and the ESB switch uses L2 Ethernet technology and VLAN-based packetforwarding.The interface between the ESB switch and the Site switch uses also, VLAN-based IP packet forwarding. In theuplink, IP packets are sent over VLAN trunk.
4.2 L3 configuration after upgrade
BSC3i 660 and 3000 have cabling that can be used for L2 and L3, without HW changes. BSC3i 1000/2000requires cabling update, because uplinks are reduced to 4. The connectivity is provided by L3 functions such asIP address and routing. Static routing is the recommended routing and OSPF is alternative option.SWU-0, SWU-1, SWU-2 and SWU-3 have to have L3 capable SW. The L3 capable SW is activated by license.Other PCULAN SWUs have L2 capable SW. Only L3 SWUs have Corelink access to Site Switches.CPULAN and PCULAN internal connectivity is provided by traditional L2 functions such MSTP and VLAN. MSTPincludes 2 instances, which are used to categorize VLANs to CPULAN and PCULAN.CPULAN’s MSTP root is in SWU-0. PCULAN’s MSTP root is in SWU-3, while other PCULAN SWUs calculate thebest port to access the root. Virtual gateway is terminated in L3 SWUs.Following figure presents L3 for BSC interfaces.

The interface between the CPU/PCU and the ESB switch uses L2 technology, VLAN-based IPpacket forwarding. The VLAN is connected to L3 technology using VLAN-SW interfaceconnection, while the SW has IP address.
The SW interface has a connection to the virtual router id (VRRP/VRID), which enables IP packetforwarding to the ESB switch whose uplink connection is UP. If uplink is DOWN, the redundantESB switch starts to act as a default gateway (VRRP/VRID MASTER). Then, the routing table isused for finding the next IP address for IP forwarding, which leads to the SW interface that has aVLAN connection to port and finally to the Site Switch.

5 PRE-REQUIREMENTS
5.1 Pre-requirements & Actions needed prior upgrade
The procedure can be implemented for S16 level onwards. It is recommended to install all available changedeliveries prior to the upgrade.IP routing is a NSN SW license-controlled feature (code 1234). Before configuring IP routing to SWU units, SWlicense has to be installed into BSC

6 FALLBACK COPYING OF THE CURRENT PACKAGE
A fallback copying of the running software package must be made before the upgrade.A fallback copying from the old SW can be made by running macro step ‘Fallback copying of the currentpackage’.Manually, the fallback copying can be made following the document: Fallback copying in BSC. The documentcan be found from NED.
Take backup of the configuration file of the SWU by uploading it to the TFTP server.Follow the instructions below:
1. TFTP server is supposed to be running on PC that has IP address 192.168.0.120. Theconfiguration file is copied to TFTP-server root directory on PC.
2. ESB26#copy running-config upload-to 192.168.0.120 config.txtTFTP sending configuration ... 2259

7 BSC CONFIGURATION PRINTOUT (PRE-CHECK)
The information about the BSC configurations and conditions are collected.Precondition checking is recommended to do during the daytime before the actual upgrade will be started. Thechecking can be made by using the macro (UPGMAIN.HIT) or manually following the instructions from “BSCconfiguration printout”-document delivered in Release Binder.

8.3.3 Enabling or disabling the automatic loading of configuration files
The parameter that sets whether automatic configuration file loading is allowed forcertain type of LAN switches may have been modified in the old build. This parametersetting is not updated during the network element upgrade. Therefore, you need to change the parametermanually after the software update.
1. Check the properties that are specific to the type of the LAN switch in the old build(YFM).

9.1 BSC configuration printout (post-check)
The information about the BSC configurations and conditions are collected.The checking can be made by using the macro (UPGMAIN.HIT) or manually following the instructions from “BSCconfiguration printout”-document delivered in Release Binder.Check for IP applications working as before.
9.2 Roll back to T3
1. Re-do cables for T3
2. Change the SWU from L3 to L2
3. Change the topology from T6 to T3
4. Upload SWU configuration for T3 from TFTP backup
