2 Training Preparation
The training held on July 17th, 2009 at Laberk Commune, Romeas Hek District, Svay Rieng Province. After discussion with NBP at their office in Phnom Penh, this location was selected base on the local resource and potentiality of the community in having biodigester plants more and to improve their knowledge in operation and maintenance.
COMPED in cooperation with NBP had also selected participants based on Level 3 criteria for community level. So COMPED and NBP have common agreed that we should invite local authorities such as commune/village chiefs relevant departments and farmers who have already NBP biodigester plants and some potential farmers and farmers who are interested learning about the technology. The training materials were arranged as below:
• REEPRO leaflets, which were prepared COMPED and NBP leaflets, which were pre-pared by NBP, were handed over to participants.
• NBP posters and biogas stove equipments, which were prepare by NBP about benefit and application of biogas were exposed to the participants.
Mr. Than Sokun and Mr. Mom Thet, COMPED are responsible for logistic and registration forms.
3 Training Performance
The training REEPRO Level 3 Course 10 on Biomass was taken place in the form of presentation prepared by NBP as below. Mr. Than Sokun gave the background of REEPRO project in Cambodia and Lao and the purpose of the training.
3.1 Presentation Presentation by using banners: • Presentation on Biodigester Plant by Mr. Khlok Hymany (NBP)
• Introduction of Biodigester Plant
• NBP Programme
• Inlet Tank
• Biogas Storage (Plant)
• Outlet Tank
• Economical, environmental, health and social benefit
• Before and after have biodigester plant
• Biodigester Operation and Maintenance
• How to maintenance Main Val (gas flow controller), stove Val, and lamp

• Presentation on Slurry by Mr. Prach Salorn (NBP) • Introduction of biogas slurry • Slurry storage and management for efficiency use
• Dig a Hole and roof construction for slurry storage for using long time
• Advantage of slurry
• Using Slurry for plant crops and raise animals
• Using Slurry for pesticide
Posters show on benefit of biogas plant and usage of slurry
3.2 Discussion
Discussion made by Question and Answer:
Q: Input materials should need the same hour or not?
A: No need the same hour just one time per day is enough.
Q: Why after biogas plant constructed we need to cover the land?
A: Because when inside the biogas plant produced a lot of gas it cans make the biogas plant crack. So if we cover the land, it’s equivalent between outside and inside density.
Q: How to clean bio-digester plant?
A: Open the plant hole for remaining gas, after that we enter to the plant
Q: How long should we clean the plant?
A: Check the gas meter indicated lower gas yield produced.
Q: When turn the main off, why the gas meter indicated to the lowest point?
A: Because somewhere leaked the gas or
• Impression of farmers can be categorised into three groups: • Impression of farmers having biogas plants:
• have gas for cooking, lighting, and good environment
• Increase quantity of rice when use slurry and better result from neighbour fields
• Not buy the chemical fertilizers
• Feed the fishes by slurry, not use food imported from Vietnam
• Impression of farmers just being ready for biogas construction:
• Last time he wastes time with collecting the fire wood, fuel for lighting
• Now he can save from not buying fuel for lighting and the kitchen was clean

• Impression of farmers interested in construct the biogas plant:
• We are interested because we do not need to waste time with collet-ing the fire wood and we want to use the slurry for rice fields and gar-dening.
3.3 Conclusion
Most of invited participants were very interested and happy with the innovation existing in their communities. As mentioned, they are motivated by energy supply and slurry for their agricultural crops. The training strongly met the participants’ expectations and filling the gaps of the participant’s doubt. It provided further knowledge on operation and maintenance, ad-vantage of slurry from biogas plant. Moreover, main output of the training is the dissemina-tion and promotion of renewable energy to the community level and local authorities on the approach and raises their awareness.
4 Questionnaire Evaluation
Questionnaire for this Level 3 was not given. It is kind of dissemination workshop to grass-root level to raise the awareness about renewable energy. However, from the procedures and discussion in the training, the trainees were very impressed about the promotion of the efficient use of renewable energy-biogas in their area in accordance with financial arrange-ment of loan with low interest from local micro-financing.
