The Italian Parish of Indianapolis
B envenuto! Welcome to Holy Rosary
Church! Whether you are a lifelong
parishioner, a first-time visitor to our
parish, or someone in between, we
are grateful you have joined us today.
Founded in 1909 as the Italian Parish of
Indianapolis, we continue to serve as
the parish home of people of Italian
heritage and also embrace all Catholics
in union with Rome, including those
devoted to the Traditional Latin Mass
(Extraordinary Form) and the Anglican
Usage of the Roman Rite.
In the words of our founding pastor,
Msgr. Marino Priori:
“The church is the temple of the
Lord, the gate of heaven. Come after a
week of earthly cares, after so much
toil, after so many sorrows, after so
much pain. Rest your limbs. Regenerate
your spirit at the sources of grace.
Raise your mind to God; thank Him for
the benefits received through His
creation and in daily life; ask for
strength so you can win all of life’s
struggles, and be able to posses the
fruits of redemption.”

MASS INTENTIONS: The standard stipend for Masses in the Archdiocese of Indianapolis is $10. Requests should indicate whether people are living or de-
ceased, and must be typed or written legibly. We will attempt to honor requested dates, but cannot guarantee they will be available. We recommend such
requests be made at least eight months in advance. Except in the year of an individual’s death, no more than 12 Saturday evening/Sunday Masses may be
requested or offered for the repose of his/her soul in a calendar year. Intentions that cannot be offered here within a year of reception are, at the pastor’s
discretion, subject to being sent to the archdiocesan Mission Office. Make checks payable to Holy Rosary Church.
J esus has prepared not just one Host, but one for every day of our life. The Hosts for us
are ready. Let us not forfeit even one of them. — St. Peter Julian Eymard

The annual Indiana March for Life will be Mon-
day, Jan. 22. It begins at noon with our own

formance each count as a call). Additional perform-
ance opportunities are available. Please send your
resume to [email protected].
Due to an overabundance of requests, we modified
the rules pertaining to Altar Memorial Candles late
last year. No family or individual may request more
than 12 candles per calendar year. Also, please note
that the calendar for Altar Memorial Candles is full
through mid-September.
Please pray for the repose of the soul of John

and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace.

Bishops designate Jan. 22
as day of prayer, penance
C atholics throughout the United States are to
observe Monday, Jan. 22, as a day of penance
and prayer for the protection of unborn children.
Fasting and abstaining from meat is the traditional
penance recommended by the Church, but other
forms of penance may be substituted. Prayer for the
unborn may be performed in many ways, and we
recommend attending Mass. At Holy Rosary, we
will offer Mass at 7:30 a.m. (Ordinary Form) and
5:45 p.m. (Extraordinary Form).
The local March for Life also takes place that day
in downtown Indianapolis; details are on Page 3 of
this bulletin. Archbishop Thompson will celebrate
Mass at noon at St. John the Evangelist Church,
126 W. Georgia St.
The following is an explanation of the annual ob-
servance from the website of the United States
Conference of Catholic Bishops, usccb.org:
The over 56 million abortions since the 1973
decisions of Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton
reflect with heartbreaking magnitude what
Pope Francis means by a “throwaway culture.”
However, we have great trust in God’s provi-
dence. We are reminded time and again in
Scripture to seek the Lord’s help, and as people
of faith, we believe that our prayers are heard.
The General Instruction of the Roman Missal,
No. 373, designates Jan. 22 as a particular day
of prayer and penance, called the “Day of
Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Chil-
dren”: “In all the Dioceses of the United States
of America, Jan. 22 (or Jan. 23, when Jan. 22
falls on a Sunday) shall be observed as a par-
ticular day of prayer for the full restoration of
the legal guarantee of the right to life and of
penance for violations to the dignity of the hu-
man person committed through acts of abor-
tion.”
As individuals, we are called to observe this
day through the penitential practices of prayer,
fasting and/or giving alms. Another way to take
part is through participating in special events to
observe the anniversary of Roe v. Wade.

Prayer for Vocations
A lmighty and eternal God, in Your unfailing love You
provide ministers for Your Church. We pray for those
whom You call to serve the Church as priests. Inspire in them
a generous response. Grant them courage and vision to serve
Your people. May their lives and service call Your people to
respond to the presence of Your Spirit among us that, faithful
to the Gospel and hope of Jesus the Christ, we may announce
glad tidings to the poor, proclaim liberty to captives, set pris-
oners free and renew the face of the earth. Amen.
Protect Life!
Jan. 22nd
is a day of prayer and penance
for all Catholics in the United States
A great prayer for life is urgently
needed, a prayer which will rise up
throughout the world. Through special ini-
tiatives and in daily prayer, may an impas-
sioned plea rise to God, the Creator and
lover of life, from every Christian commu-
nity, from every group and association,
from every family and from the heart of
every believer. — Pope St. John Paul II, Evangelium Vitæ
T he care of human life and happiness,
and not their destruction, is the first
and only object of good government. — President Thomas Jefferson, March 31, 1809
