Direct and Indirect object Together
Página 279
Order of pronouns
• When both an indirect and a direct object pronoun are used in a sentence, the indirect object pronoun (I) precedes the direct (D): ID. Note that nothing comes between the two pronouns. The position of double object pronoun with respect to the verb is the same as that of single object pronouns
Ejemplos
-¿Tienes el trofeo? Do you have the trophy?-Sí, acaban de dármelo Yes, they just gave it to me
-Mamá, ¿Está listo el almuerzo? Mom, is lunch ready?-Te lo hago ahora mismo I will make it for you right now
Le(s) → se
When both the indirect and the direct object pronouns begin with the letter l, the indirect object pronoun always changes to se. The direct object pronoun does not change. Four combinations are possible: se lo, se la, se los, se las. In all cases, se represent the indirect object. The direct object is represented by lo, la, los, or las. In sentences of this kind, just use se automatically and focus only on the correct direct object form
Ejemplos…..
Les dimos el auto(les lo) We gave them the carSe lo dimos We gave it to them
Le escribí la carta ayer I wrote her the letter (le la) yesterdaySe la escribí ayer I wrote it to her yesterday
More Examples….
Le regaló esos zapatos He gave him those (le los) shoesSe los regaló He gave them to him
Les mandamos las We sent them theinvitaciones. (le las) invitationsSe las mandamos We sent them to them
Since se can stand for le (to/for you[sing.], him, her) or les (to/for you [pl.] them), it is often necessary to clarify its meaning by using a plus the pronoun object of prepositions.
Se lo escribo a Uds. (a ellos, a ellas….)I’ll write it to you (them….)Se las doy a Ud. (a él, a ella….)I’ll give them to you (him, her…)
