Donna Quibab’s Revenge – 2016

the 9th pirate story from the ‘Bayko Baron’

• With her husband away up country Donna Quibab summons the senior officers

• Some time later the Pernambuco finds herself hove-to and alone

• They are hove-to so that Don Rohas and Don Garcia can settle a bet about sleeping whales

• No one seems to have noticed the sleek brig running down on them

• It is the pirate ‘Walrus’

• Commanded by the Reverend Obidiah Flint, who even now is urging his men on with scripture

• Belatedly the Pernambuco fires her deck guns, killing Rohas and Garcia in the process, but leaving Flint unharmed

• Not bothering to return fire the Walrus sweeps in for the kill

• The Spaniards meet them blade to blade

• And even as battle is joined a new sail crests thwe horizon –

the heavy galleon Cacafuego,

summoned by the Pernambuco’s

cannon

Coming about she delivers a full broadside of hot-shot point blank into the now defenceless Walrus

• Reducing the pirate to a blood-soaked inferno in a single salvo

Disheartened the remaining pirates surrender – Donna Quibab orders them taken to the nearest Spanish port – La Hachada

• Three weeks on the survivors are brought out to the gallows. Learning from past events Donna Quibab has ordered a curfew - no crowds for a rescue to hide

behind, no dignitaries to be taken hostage

But the delay has given the Brethren of the Coast time to organise and even now Gaspard Le Phew and Happy Dan Pugh are overwhelming

the guards at the landward gate.

• With cat-like tread and no sound at all the desperadoes hasten through the shuttered streets

• Bursting into the plaza they unleash a ragged volley

• Enough to down two of the guards and send the rest running – too late for ‘Cookie’ and ‘Mad Hamish’ but a genuine

miracle for Josh Kipperfeet

• But even as the rescuers surge into the square the doors of Santa Ignacio and the surrounding shops swing open and a

female voice barks…• Fuego!
