Thanks to the hard working, talented and devoted members of the committee.

We invited over 45 people that had expressed interest in joining the Son's of Italy, to come to
our September Meeting and to enjoy dinner and possibly a glass of wine and to get to personally
know us.
That night, we had one of the largest attendances we've had...at least in the last 5-8 years.
That night, we had another 9 members sworn in along with a few more who decided to join after
the fact and will be initiated next month.
Bravo!
A Taste of WineBy Frank Mangio
Winery to the StarsEnter the tasting room of Miramonte Winery in Temecula Wine Country and you immediately know this is no ordinary winery. The flashy branding on several rows of reds don't have a demure, conservative label on them. Instead there is the glitter and glamour of rock and pop music stars etched in the glass, the most prominent being the garish tongue, made famous by the Rolling Stones. We sent a variety of wines to the Stones for a tasting to find out what their favorites might be, declared Miramonte winemaker and owner Cane Vanderhoof. Cane bought the winery in 2001 and combined his talent for etching with is recent skills as a fine winemaker. He went on to say that Mick Jagger likes our Bordeaux Blend. He and the rest of the Stones are great fun to deal with and they are very savvy about the wines. This part of our business, Celebrity Cellars, gives us a vehicle for move forward to build up the Miramonte brand as a premium winemaker. In a sense, the bottles are works of art and include signature bottles for Madonna, Celine Dion, Bon Jovi, the Police and others whose names will be released soon. The Stones bottles contain 23 layers of paint and Vanderhoof himself does all the design work. Now, here is the special kicker to this fascinating story. The public can purchase one of their favorite star' s etched bottles with their favorite wine. You can either take the trip to the Miramonte Winery on Rancho California Road in Temecula, or access their web site which is: www.celebrationcellars.com. Since he has taken over the winery, Vanderhoof has made it one of the most respected properties in the valley, with wines of depth, character and sophistication. His wines have taken many gold medals and best of class in competition. A second generation of winemakers in the valley are making major changes, turning to Rhone varietals like Syrah, Voignier and Mourvedre. They will be the signature wines going into the future, he observed. His estate Syrah, a double gold winner, already is laying claim to this forecast.

Oh, and don't forget to come to the Reserve and New Release Tasting on board the docked Inspiration with 150 wines to try, Friday evening, the 16th. SPAGHETTI......
A wealthy man was having an affair with an Italian woman for several years. One night, during one of their rendezvous, she confided in him that she was pregnant. Not wanting to ruin his reputation or his marriage, he would pay her a large sum of money if she would go to Italy to secretly have the child. If she stayed in Italy to raise the child, he would also provide child support until the child turned 18. She agreed, but asked how he would know when the baby was born. To keep it discreet, he told her to simply mail him a post card, and writeSpaghetti" on the back. He would then arrange for child support payments to begin.
One day, about8 months later, he came home to his confused wife. His wife said, "Honey, you received a very strange post card today." "Oh, just give it to me and I'll explain it," he said. The wife handed him the card and watched as her husband read the card, turned white and collapsed.
On the card was written: "Spaghetti, Spaghetti, Spaghetti. Two with meatballs, one without! Request bread..."
