Scripture Lessons1 Peter 3: 8-12 (NIV)Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be

compassionate and humble. Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the

contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may

inherit a blessing. For,

“Whoever would love life

and see good days

must keep their tongue from evil

and their lips from deceitful speech.

They must turn from evil and do good;

they must seek peace and pursue it.

For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous

and his ears are attentive to their prayer,

but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”

Isaiah 41: 8-13 (NIV)“But you, Israel, my servant,

Jacob, whom I have chosen,

you descendants of Abraham my friend,

I took you from the ends of the earth,

from its farthest corners I called you.

I said, ‘You are my servant’;

I have chosen you and have not rejected you.

So do not fear, for I am with you;

do not be dismayed, for I am your God.

I will strengthen you and help you;

I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

“All who rage against you

will surely be ashamed and disgraced;

those who oppose you

will be as nothing and perish.

Though you search for your enemies,

you will not find them.

Those who wage war against you

will be as nothing at all.

For I am the Lord your God

who takes hold of your right hand

and says to you, Do not fear;

I will help you.

Youcan also make monetary donations, just write "Food Pantry" in the memo line of your check, orgive online.

FAITH SHARINGMEET A NEW FRIEND TODAY - As you enter Church today to worship, look around and see ifyou can find someone you don't know. During Passing of the Peace, make a point to introduceyourself to them and invite them to join you in an activity of the Church. If you can't get to themduring the Passing of the Peace, hang around for a bit after worship and strike up a conversationwith them. In time you'll discover if they are long lost members, or here for the first time. Eitherway, you get to make a new friend. Thank you for being one of the friendliest and most caringcongregations around.

HAS GOD BLESSED YOU? - When God answers our prayers, or provides healing, or helps us finda job or get a promotion; when God has touched our lives – we have a responsibility to tell otherswhat God has done. This is a great way to start a conversation about our faith with those whoknow us. Tell them how you feel about being touched by God, or how God has answered yourprayers.

PLEASE INVITE YOUR FRIENDS - It is the simplest and most effective way to share Christ withothers: just invite your friends to church with you. Most people who grew up as Christians andwho aren't in a church say they just haven't found a church they like, and because no one hasinvited them. Most people if you ask, will say yes to an invitation. Just ask them to come tochurch for a special event, or special Sunday, or to hear a sermon you think will help them.

ADMINISTRATIONSTEWARDSHIP - Please be sure that the outer doors close firmly and are locked when you leavethe building. Turn out the lights when you leave a room. Turn off the heat/air conditioner in theroom you are using. These are all things we can do to keep our building secure, our memberssafe, and our operating costs down.

DON’T PUT IT OFF!!Too many people put off something that brings them joy just because they

haven't thought about it, don't have it on their schedule, didn't know it was coming

or are too rigid to depart from their routine.

I got to thinking one day about all those people on the Titanic who passed up

dessert at dinner that fateful night in an effort to cut back. From then on, I've tried

to be a little more flexible.

How many women out there will eat at home because their husband didn't

suggest going out to dinner until after something had been thawed? Does the

word 'refrigeration' mean nothing to you?

How often have your kids dropped in to talk and sat in silence while you

watched 'Jeopardy' on television?

I cannot count the times I called my sister and said , 'How about going to

lunch in a half hour?' She would gas up and stammer, 'I can't. I have clothes on the

line. My hair is dirty. I wish I had known yesterday, I had a late breakfast, It looks

like rain' And my personal favorite: 'It's Monday.' She died a few years ago. We

never did have lunch together.

Because Americans cram so much into their lives, we tend to schedule our

headaches. We live on a sparse diet of promises we make to ourselves when all the

conditions are perfect!

We'll go back and visit the grandparents when we get Steve toilet-trained.

We'll entertain when we replace the living-room carpet. We'll go on a second

honeymoon when we get two more kids out of college.

Life has a way of accelerating as we get older. The days get shorter, and the

list of promises to ourselves gets longer. One morning, we awaken, and all we

have to show for our lives is a litany of 'I'm going to,' 'I plan on,' and 'Someday,

when things are settled down a bit.'

When anyone calls my 'seize the moment' friend, she is open to adventure and

available for trips. She keeps an open mind on new ideas. Her enthusiasm for life

is contagious. You talk with her for five minutes, and you're ready to trade your

bad feet for a pair of Rollerblades and skip an elevator for a bungee cord.

My lips have not touched ice cream in 10 years. I love ice cream. It's just that

I might as well apply it directly to my stomach with a spatula and eliminate the

digestive process. The other day, I stopped the car and bought a triple-decker. If

my car had hit an iceberg on the way home, I would have died happy.

Now... go on and have a nice day. Do something you WANT to... not

something on your SHOULD DO list. If you were going to die soon and had only

one phone call you could make, who would you call and what would you say? And

why are you waiting?

Make sure you read this to the end; you will understand why I sent this to you.

Page 14: La Plata United Methodist Church · 2019. 11. 8. · 6:00p Financial Peace University (FH2) Monday, November 11 - BLP Closed 11:00a Richard James Burket Memorial Service (Sanctuary)

Have you ever watched kids playing on a merry go round or listened to the rain

lapping on the ground? Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight or gazed at the

sun into the fading night? Do you run through each day on the fly? When you

ask 'How are you?' Do you hear the reply?

When the day is done, do you lie in your bed with the next hundred chores

running through your head? Ever told your child, 'We'll do it tomorrow.' And in

your haste, not see his sorrow? Ever lost touch? Let a good friendship die? Just

call to say 'Hi'?

When you worry and hurry through your day, it is like an unopened gift...

Thrown away... Life is not a race. Take it slower. Hear the music before the song

is over.

'Life may not be the party we hoped for... but while we are here we might as

well dance.'
