Sew Powerful Purses

In Zambia, it's the commoncultural practice in bothpoor urban and remotevillage areas that girls stayhome when they are menstruating. This is because theydon't have a reliable product solution that they canafford. So to avoid the risk of social embarrassment –they simply stay home. Disposable products are not thesolution because there is no garbage collection and thecost is an impossible barrier to overcome. A well madereusable product is the best solution.

In this Sew Powerful Purses class, we will each sew abasic purse that will be later filled with supplies. We willNOT provide any supplies beyond the basic purse.Patterns for the purse will be provided or you candownload the patterns for beginner and intermediatepurses at sew powerful.org. Bring 1/2 yard fabric for thepurse and 1/2 yard for the lining. We will provide sewingmachines or bring your own machine. Even if you can'tsew, we have things you can help with: cutting or makingnote cards to put in the purses.

This class will be 10am -4pm, broken up into three 2-hourblocks. You're welcome to sign up for more than oneblock if you'd like to. Even though this is a free, drop-inclass, please sign up here -- it helps us to plan the spaceaccordingly.

Stripliqué Seascapes

In this two-part class, you willlearn the principles of creatingbeautiful seascape quilts using ablending of strip piecing andappliqué. The appliqué can berendered by hand, raw-edgedmachine, fused or a combination of methods; the water,sand and sky are rendered in strip piecing. You candesign your own seascape from photographs, orpurchase a pattern for an Oregon Seascape from theinstructor. The first class session covers the process ofcreating effective landscapes through the use ofappropriate fabrics and choosing the particular appliquémethods you wish to use, the second session will bedevoted to making your quilt. In thisproject, the simple processwill yield two small orslightly larger sized quiltsthat are identical in design but with the colors reversed.The resulting quilts are graphic and depending on color/texture choices subtle or striking. We'll meet at the store once per month and allstudents will work on the project together. PJwill provide the project PDF, plus she'll be onhand if you need any help. PJ’s Virtual Embroidery Club 2020 - 2021

Learn quilt in the hoop techniques! This Yearly Club membership includes the Full-Color Step by Step downloadable instructions you'll need to create a finished quilt fromthe "In The Hoop" 8" blocks, including Joining, Sashing, Invisible Sashing, Borders,Corners, and Binding. Each month you will receive at least one new block, and mostmonths, there are many main blocks and often border and corner blocks. The yearlyaverage is about six blocks a month. All of this will be through the Teachable website platform. Let the good times roll at Kimberbell’s Family Game Night! This two-day machineembroidery event is a sure bet for a whole lot of fun. Receive a project bag and fabrickits with everything you need to create four exclusive Kimberbell projects, along withfull-color, step-by-step instructions. Projects include the Popcorn Basket Liner, Good Times Vinyl Zipper Pouch,Game Night Champ Mug Rug, and the dazzling Family Game Night Tote.

Family Game Night with Kimberbell & Janome

Have you ever made a quilt from fabrics you loved but then did not like the finishedquilt? Have you ever chosen a specific quilt design then were dismayed when thedesign disappeared or looked completely different than you expected? Do you feeloverwhelmed when walking into a fabric store to select fabric for a new quilt? Manypeople cringe when it comes to working with color or feel they have no color sense butcolor is a science and as such, has predictable properties. Come, listen, look and learnhow you can take charge of color in your projects.

Methods of selecting color schemes from a color wheel along with a few other novel approaches round out thepresentation. The evening will also include a trunk show of quilts illustrating a variety of color formulas in action.Light snacks will be provided and all attendees will receive a 10% discount on fabric purchased that evening.
