Atlas May was the owner and operator of the Little Daisy Cafe in St. Louis. In 1920 he established the

Lackadaisy Speakeasy in limestone caves located under the Lit-tle Daisy Cafe. The speakeasy was a success, but in 1926 Atlas

was killed violently, though the exact circumstances have not been revealed The inheritance of Lack-

adaisy by Atlas’s widow, Mitzi, and the subsequent decline of the speakeasy form the

backdrop of the comic.

Calvin “Freckle” Allen McMurray is Nina’s son and Rocky’s cousin. Freckle first appears in “Reciprocity”, though he does not have dialog until the following episode, “Coconspirator”. After he

is rejected from the police academy due to an “incident”, Nina inadvertently causes Freckle to become involved with Lackadaisy.Freckle’s height is approximately 5’3”. He is of Irish ancestry. Of his appearance, Tracy noted that, “Freckle’s design has more cir-cles; his cue-ball head and saucer eyes are meant to look more in-

nocent by comparison (to Rocky)”.

Ivy Pepper is the daughter of Ruby Pepper and goddaughter of At-las. She is first depicted in a photograph in "Introduction 3" and first

appears with dialog in "Formaldehyde” Ivy was born on May 20, 1909 in Kansas City, Missouri, making her 18 years old at the time of the comic. Ivy's height is approxi-mately 5'1", Tracy notes that, "Ivy wears bright colors I associate with spring and youth". With regards to her voice, Tracy has stated that Ivy is, "Pert, cute, high pitched, but with a self-aware, sardonic edge. There's a bit of deliberately disarming con artist beneath the

daintiness".

Mary Ellen “Mitzi” May owns and operates the Little Daisy Cafe and the Lackadaisy Speakeasy since the death of Atlas, her husband, in 1926. It is rumored that she may have been responsible

for his death. Mitzi’s height is approximately 5’3”. She was born on September 25. She has sworn that she was born in the twentieth century, mak-ing her at least 27 years old. Mitzi was born in Savannah, Georgia, and has some family in that area. Her maiden name is Montgomery.

Roark “Rocky” Rickaby joined Lackadaisy as an addition to Zib’s band. After the death of Atlas and the departure of much of Lacka-daisy’s staff, Rocky begins doing odd jobs for Mitzi. Rocky is Nina’s

nephew and Freckle’s cousin.Rocky’s height is approximately 5’6”. He was 23 years old during the timeframe of the comic. Rocky’s left ear is slightly damaged because he inadvertently shot it himself in “Trouble Boys”. In “Overtime”, Wick’s doorman says that Rocky looks like “some scruffy excuse for a hoodlum”. Of his appearance, Tracy has noted that the, “upturned points of Rocky’s head shape (his ears and cheeks) seemed appropri-

ate for his brand of impudent eagerness.

Viktor Ladislav Vasko is a member of the Lackadaisy crew. Though he is nominally the bartender, he was a triggerman under At-

las until he was injured in a confrontation with Mordecai.Viktor was 41 years old at the time of the comic. He was born in Pressburg (Bratislava), Austria-Hungary. He stands 6’6” and weighs 279 lbs. He has ruddy fur and green eyes. With regards to how he speaks, Viktor, “Flatly says exactly what he means in a low, brusque voice with a heavy Slovakian accent (which is fairly Slavic sounding.

Czech is perhaps the closest comparison I could make.)
