7Origo Collection

Inspired by the feverish epoch of the eighteenth century gold quests, this hall clock alludes to a time when North Carolina and California were the destinations of many individuals longing a life of luxury and enchantment associated to the golden mineral. Gold Rush’s irregular form is analogous of the rough metal rescued from Earth’s entrails, while an astonishing golden luster glimmers inside a rugged shell. Activated by a complex mechanism of pendulums and counterweights, balancing and commemorate this dashing quest.

The outcome of a fruitful alliance between Piet Mondrian’s neoplasticism and the Nouveau Art of Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí is expressed within the lines of this console. The evidently autonomous artistic expressions of both artist and architect are united in an utterly unique creation. A clear opposition between a mechani-cally carved orthogonal grid and hand carved organic ornaments is evident as the two wrap a singular solid wood structure. The handle is of burl, a unique part at a tree’s bottom where roots tangle to form unique figures. The elegant block lies on slender stainless steel rods emphasizing a sense of the consoles’ weightlessness.

ZELLIJ

Zellij, root word of Azulejo are hand painted tiles and ambassadors of Portuguese heritage, which have covered building facades since the XV cen-tury. The sideboard reinterprets the traditional glazed ceramic tiles and readapts the concept to a profusely carved piece of furniture. Similar to an-cient Portuguese architecture, the complex geo-metric pattern involves the whole surface estab-lishing the “horror vacui” (fear for empty space), which is the main design paradigm of the piece. Zellij as a tribute to a design trend that overtook the Iberian Peninsula depicts the timelessness and longevity of geometric patterning. Unlike Zel-lij’s classical counterparts, the sideboards pattern includes Relevo, an ancient sculptural technique, which for Zellij was designed to entice human touch and longing for textural curiosity.

HOLOS

13Origo Collection

Holism, as described by Aristotle in Metaphysics occurs when “The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.” This concept is a main principle of the Holos nesting tables. “Holos” is a Greek term that means “whole”, an element that prevails over all of its constituents. The necessity for synthetizing parts in an overall composition is clearly expressed, not only in the three tables that make up the trio, but in theirindividual structure where Wenge legs are bared by the next in a manner like a crutch to ensure the stability and balance of the table. “Ho-los” culminates in a sunburst burl figure creating a unique pattern granted by the roots of a specific tree and never to be repeated due to the individual grain features that vary from tree to tree.

Sextet is a token of eclecticism in its variety of characteristics. It sharp geometric shape is remi-niscent of brutalist architecture that flourished in the 1950’s. The use of book matched walnut was influenced by Biedermeier and Art Deco motifs, while the gilded rings of the mirror are influ-enced by the Victorian era. The chrome plated hardware draw elements of glam and femininity. The name Sextet was derived after construction of the mirror. When standing before the unit, a series of six replicas appears. All movements under the mirrors eye become reminiscent of a choreographed act with six members.

The atmosphere of ancient Egyptian cities is materialized into the Mashrabiya cabinet. Through the conversion of a traditional ar-chitecture, which once covered the wealthiest old-world homes of Egypt comes a stunning piece of furniture to harbor one’s most pre-cious collectables. A complex mesh comprised of wood turnings sits between a rich, dense wooden frame. A statuary brass base and top are the ideal complement to the rich brown color of walnut. Mashrabiya’s evident bond with a former epoch gives the piece a historic allure and grandeur. The precision in which the turning modules are united is a token to craftsmanship.
