WELCOME TO FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

Welcome and thanks for visiting us today. If you did not receive a visitor bag, just ask an usher to get one for you. Join us in the Fellowship Hall after the service for refreshments and to meet new people and make new friends. We look forward to getting to know you. There is a “friendship tablet” in each pew at the center aisle. Please complete the visitor section, including your phone number so we may give you a follow up call. Hearing devices and large print Bibles are available if you need them. If you feel too cold, we have shawls or coverlets to keep you warm. Ushers will be happy to get these items for you. After the service, you may leave them in the pew or take them to the narthex. Restrooms are located at both north entrances to the Fellowship Hall. Care Notes. We all need a little help with our problems through life’s crises at times. Please take a look at the “Care Notes” rack that is located on the wall on the right side of the double doors in the Fellowship Hall. These notes cover many of life’s challenges and might contain just what you need to help shed light on the problem. Take what you need, or you may have a friend with needs. We hope these are helpful. Are you expecting a call from GOD? As you prepare your heart for worship, please take a moment to silence your mobile devices before the service begins. Thank you! Questions? If you would like more information about our church, don’t be shy about asking an usher or just call the church office at 386-752-0670.

– 4th Grade & Up There will be a pool party for parents and their children that are in 4th grade and higher on Saturday, August 25th from 3pm-6pm at Janie Killian’s home (333 SE Mojave Way, Lake City FL. 32025). There will be refreshments and snacks. During the party we will have a parent meeting at 5:15pm. If you have any questions concerning this event, please contact Cathy Glass at 386-697-9131. ICE SCREAM, YOU SCREAM

Do you have an ice cream churn? Do you know how to make homemade ice cream? Would you be willing to make a churn of ice cream for our end of summer ice cream social on September 9th from 4pm-6pm? We could have the ultimate ice cream social to end all ice cream socials with your help!!! We would love to have multiple flavors. If you’re willing to help, please call or tell Cheryl Whigham 386-752-1161 from Congregational Care.

FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH Lake City, Florida

August 19, 2018 20th Sunday in Ordinary Time 10:30am Service PRELUDE “Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing” arr. by Leonard WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS * HYMN #413 “Come into God’s Presence” (v. 3) COME INTO GOD’S PRESENCE

Praise the Lord together singing “Worthy the Lamb, worthy the Lamb, worthy the Lamb.” * CALL TO WORSHIP (adapted from Fernando Ortega’s “Our Great God”)

Leader: Holy God, you are the great Light of this world. You speak and your boundless love rings in our hearts.

People: Hallelujah, glory be to our great God! Leader: Let every creature in the sea and every flying bird, let every mountain, every field and valley of the earth, let all the moons and all the stars in all the universe, give praise to the living God who rules them by his word. Unison: Hallelujah, glory be to our great God! * HYMN #1 “Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty!” NICAEA CALL TO CONFESSION SILENT PRAYER OF CONFESSION UNISON PRAYER OF CONFESSION (from oga.pcusa.org)

God, our fears and prejudices run deep. Oftentimes we can only see our own point of view. We stick with those who are like us, rarely venturing outside our comfort zones. We do not hear those crying for justice and true peace. We blame those who are suffering and in need, instead of standing by them. We deny the power of your gospel to unite us with those who are different from us. Lord, give us eyes to see and ears to hear. Open us to new possibilities of life for all of your people and use us to enact the new life given in Christ. Amen.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON Leader: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven! People: Thanks be to God! * RESPONSE TO PARDON #581 “Glory Be to the Father” GLORIA PATRI

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,

world without end. Amen, amen.

* FELLOWSHIP GREETING

Leader: May the peace of Christ be with you all.

People: And also with you!

Please extend the right hand of fellowship to your brothers and sisters in Christ!

* FELLOWSHIP HYMN #743 “O God, You Are My God” STEP BY STEP

O God, you are my God, and I will ever praise you.

O God, you are my God, and I will ever praise you.

I will seek you in the morning, and I will learn to walk in your ways,

And step by step you’ll lead me, and I will follow you all of my days.

* Please rise in

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth: and in Jesus

Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried: he

descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into

heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he

shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy

catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection

of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
