When IOWA started, I was so exited! When it is time for

the IOWA test, we will totally be ready! The practice books are

much harder this year. I cant wait for the IOWA test because

that’s when we know works and we play silent speed ball. It’s su-

per fun! :-)

The 3rd graders get to come to Barry for the IOWA test. I

cant wait for them to come because I miss them from last year!

In IOWA we are doing math, language arts, and I think we will

start science. As I said earlier, I am very exited!

Building Simulation

On Wednesday December 11, 2013 Jaidyn Holt’s dad

came in from EA and we did a building simulation.

We had to have a park, a balcony, it had to be 2 feet

or taller, and had to have a helicopter pad. The win-

ner of the competition was my team with Martin, Ad-

am R., Ashley, and Carson. We got t-shirts and every-

one else got foam balls. I had a lot of fun building. By:

Dodgeball Global Winds

P A G E 3 V O L U M E 1 , I S S U E 1

Recently, the Barry students were

given back the privilege of playing

dodge ball. The two students who

earned it back were President and

Vice President Devin Sloan and Adam

Hill. They both had to talk with the

Principal in order to get it back. The

reason we stopped playing dodge ball

was because there were too many

incident reports coming home. Be-

cause of this, we had to change the

rules up a bit.

Rules:

1. Can only play twice a week

2. Have to throw under the

shoulders

3. If you’re trying to get your op-

ponent out, you have to throw

with your non-dominant hand.

The last thing I need to tell you

is that if anyone gets an inci-

dent report, we will have to

permanently stop playing dodge

ball. Well, I hope this gave you

an idea about one of the things

we are doing at recess! Bye!

-Sweta Srinivasan

Do you know the names of the global

winds? This article contains all of

them! Global winds are caused by

different temperatures in the atmos-

phere. Why do you think it’s so windy

in the desert? Hot air helps to create

high winds. The different types of

global winds are: westerlies, easter-

lies, southeast trades and northeast

trades. Winds are common, so grab

onto your hats!

The Barry Class has been studying The Constitution. The Constitution was a

document that explains our rights. As part of our homework we had to re-

search someone who signed The Constitution. Here are some examples,

Pierce Butler, John Hancock, Rufus King, Alexander Hamilton, Roger Sher-

man, and Daniel Carol. We wrote about early life and what they did after

they signed. It was fun and I’m exited to learn more

On Friday, December 13th, the Barry class had a spelling bee. The fourth, fifth, and

sixth-graders had separate competitions. When it gets down to two people and someone

spells a word incorrectly, the other has to spell one correctly to win. If they get it wrong as

well, a new round begins. The winner of the fourth grade was Ashley Franco and Kayla Hom

was runner-up. The fifth grade winner was Olivia Mertin and runner-up was Carson Drum-

mond. Hugo Martinez was the sixth-grade winner and Divya Srinivasan was runner-up.

On December 18th, the elementary classes had a school spelling bee in the Barry

classroom. The parents of the winners and runner-ups came to support their children

who were competing that day. The same rules applied. The winner was Divya Srini-

vasan. Hugo Martinez was runner-up.

On December 18, 2014 we had a celebra-

tion. We filled the peace jar for the first

time. We decided to watch two movies. We

watched Smurfs 2 and The Croods. We first

watched Smurfs 2. it was so funny. Then we

watched The Croods. It was very interest-

ing . We also had delicious popcorn. We

had a great time watching the movies. I can

not wait to watch them again. By : Maddy

Winter Celebrations

P A G E 5

The Barry class started in Barry.

Barry was celebrating Kwanza.

There, I got to taste Gumbo and

cornbread. I also got to hear a

book about Kwanza’s celebration.

Next, I made a craft of a Kanara.

Mrs. Rothbaum hosted the Barry

class celebration. Barry moved to

Davinci which celebrated Diwali.

Mrs. Patel hosted Diwali. There, we

made three crafts and got to taste a

little milk muffin. Barry moved to

Van Gogh next. There was a silk

blanket with plates, perfume, and

food. The class looked at pictures

about Eid while Selem’s mom told

us about Eid. After the slideshow,

we ate the food on the blanket and

then went back to Barry.

-Jaidyn

Bishop Grady is an organization that helps people with disabilities.

Some of them are blind or have physical disabilities. They came to

visit the Barry classroom. We sat and talked about what we were

going to do . We went outside and played speed stacks in P.E. We

had to help them. Then we all ate pizza together. They sat right next

to us and we ate together. Finally, we came inside and made a

polar bear craft. We used glue, shaving cream, googly eyes, pom

poms, and paper plates. I really enjoyed working with them!

MULTIPLYING FRACTIONS

This week the fourth grade class has been working on multiplying fractions. It has been a joy. I have loved learning lots of interesting

facts about fractions. It has been a little challenging , but I have learned a lot of fraction-multiplying fundamentals , Therefore, I can con-

quer most of the math challenges that lie before me. BY ADAM HILL

with the hammer. If we bent a nail

we used the side with the two

parts sticking out to remove the

nail. After we were done, we used

sand paper to smooth it out. Then

we painted it.

A few months ago we had a car-

pentry crew come to the school.

They taught us how to make a tool

box. There were only two carpen-

ters but they explained the instruc-

tions very well. Everyone had to

wear goggles for protection. We

also had wood, nails, and of course

a hammer. In order to make the

toolbox, we had to hit the nails

WINTER GARDEN HISTORY

On January 14, 2014, the

Barry class had an on-site excursion.

It was from the Winter Garden Her-

itage Museum. A staff member came

in and told us about the history of

Winter Garden. It was interesting.

We learned about Lake

Apopka and how they are known for

orange juice, Lake Apopka used to be

polluted with algae and all the fish in

it died. Did you also know that or-

ange juice helped us win World War

2? All the vitamin C gave the soldiers

strength and health to fight hard. I

loved the excursion!

Bird Research Bird Research Bird Research Bird Research In December, we researched birds. I chose

the chicken to research. We studied the

birds’ organs too. I thought it was fun!

We’re also going to cut open an owl pellet.

It will be exciting!

Gulf Research

As a part of our 4th Grade works, we studied Gulfs of the

world. Some of these Gulfs include; The Gulf of Bothnia,

The Gulf of Tonkin, and The Gulf of Carpentaria. I studied

the Gulf of San Matias. We have enjoyed this work and

wouldn’t mind to do it again. Have a spectacularly strik-

ing day!

Types of Dented MarginsTypes of Dented MarginsTypes of Dented MarginsTypes of Dented Margins We learned about the types of dented margins in a botany

lesson. Dented margins are the amount margins of leaves

indent toward the main vein. The types of dented margins

are lobed, partite, fid, and sect. I found a leaf with a partite

margin outside my house.
