June 2017 EASTER UP!
Recently, I spent a great deal of time at my father’s bedside as he
recovered from a complicated surgery and my mind recalled words
written by one of my favorite poet theologians.
There is a fragrance in the air,
a certain passage of a song,
an old photograph falling out of the pages of a book,
the sound of somebody’s voice in the hall
that makes your heart leap and fills your eyes with tears.
Who can say when or how it will be
that something easters up out of the dimness
to remind us of a time before we were born and after we will die?
God himself does not give answers. He gives himself.
Stop and think about the times and seasons when something
‘easters up’ in your life. Eastertide is not just a period of weeks in the
church year, it is an awareness of the redeeming grace and love of God
that has come to us all. Thanks be to God!
See you in worship!

and Fairy Tale

All Roads Lead to Rome During VBS! Join us July 30-August 3, Sunday,
12:00 - 3:00 p.m. and Monday through
Thursday, 9:00 a.m. - 3:p.m. We will
explore a crowded Roman market-
place, tiptoe past watchful Roman
guards, encourage first-century
Christians who meet in a dark cave,
race chariots, and visit Paul for daily
discoveries about God’s love.
Registration will start in June, so
look for Rachel Hole and Robin Joel at
the sign-up table during lemonade on
the lawn. We are also looking for
many volunteers to make Rome come
to life in our Fellowship Hall. If you
can volunteer to help, please sign-up!
We need decorators, actors, group
leaders, and shop keepers, so there are
plenty of opportunities to help. If you
can’t help the week of VBS but would
like to be involved, you can help by
donating supplies we will need. Look
for a list of items in the bulletin during
the month of June. For more
information, contact
Robin Joel ([email protected]) or
Rachel Hole ([email protected])

The Pentecost Offering will be
received on Sunday, June 4.
Sixty percent of this PC
(USA) offering supports Vol-
unteers in Mission - young
adults who spend 3 months to a
year overseas or in the United
States lending a hand; child
advocacy; and seed money for the 2019
Youth Triennium at Purdue University.
Our church sent 7 youth along with Rachel
Erb to last year's Triennium, and we have
had 4 of our young adults serve as VIMs in
the last 20 years. The remaining 40 percent
will stay local to support School Dressing
Days with the purchase of clothes, shoes,
and supplies. School Dressing Days held in
August at the Church of the Latter Day
Saints on Bragg Road provides new
clothes, shoes, underwear, coats/hoodies,
and school supplies to disadvantaged
families in our community. Our church has
been asked to bring new to gently used
tennis shoes of all sizes, flats for teenage
girls, backpacks, hoodies, and new
women’s underwear.
Becky Paul coordinates our School
Dressing Days effort.

Rebuilding Together Thanks
Dear Member of The Presbyterian Church, April 30, 2017
From our family to your church family we would like to express our most deepest
and heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to The Fredericksburg Presbyterian
Church Family. The repairs that was made to our home in just one day would’ve
taken us years to achieve...if we could thank each and everyone of you personally…
we wound bu unfortunately there are soooo many names that would be hard for us
to remember, if not written down but we can honestly say...the Fredericksburg
Presbyterian Church is overflowing with angelic souls which radiates
abundantly….Please lift our family up in prayer my husband especially for he’s
battling Leukemia. We will eternally keep each of you in our prayers.
Once again… Thank You Fredericksburg Presbyterian Church… The Lomas fam-
ily will be forever grateful… much love & God bless us all...special thanks to Mr.
Gary Vaughn, Mr. Pete Beattie and Steve Spratt for their outstanding coordinating
& leaders.
The Lomax Family
Steve & Sonia Dettweiler are members of
Wycliffe Bible Translators and have worked
in Nigeria since 1991. They are eager to
share with our congregation how the Lord
has been moving through Bible translation
there. They will be starting new assignments
in October 2017.
Steve plans to serve as a Linguistics
Consultant. This involves researching and
writing about Nigerian languages as well as
promoting clear and natural translations of
Scripture. Nigeria, with over 450 minority
languages, is a linguist’s paradise and one of
the most strategic places in the world for
completing the Bible translation task.
Sonia plans to serve as Assistant to the
SIL Anglo‑Lusophone Africa Area Director.
She will serve on a team of six people to
oversee the work of Bible translation in the
English and Portuguese‑speaking countries
of Africa, which include Nigeria. Her organ-
izational skills will be invaluable in that role.
The Dettweilers are now living in Wax-
haw, NC, and Steve is pursuing US citizen-
ship. Steve and Sonia thank God for open
doors to contribute remotely from the US to
the work of Bible translation in Africa.

tickets are $35. If we have 14 people or under, they are $55. Please send Pastor Tamminga
an email ([email protected]) by Sunday, July 9, if you’re interested in
joining us, and make sure to mention if you already have a season pass. She will be in

(made payable to The Presbyterian Church) for the ticket before the event, or bring one
with you on July 21!
