P R O J E C T B R I E FFor this project I was supposed to create a light fixture from scratch for the studio space of my dreams. This was definitely an iteration and refinement project in where it was all about playing with the material and seeing what worked and what did not. Before I began I knew that I wanted to do a hanging lamp and it wasn’t until I started to find my inspiration where I found what I wanted to run with.

I N S P I R A T I O NFor this project, I knew that I wanted a hanging lamp. I have always been inspired by a circular lamp at Ikea. It was at that point where I began to know what I wanted to incorporate in my lamp. My lamp needed a circular form, rustic look, however, a modern finish.

After this I began to look for inspiration around me and also where I would like this lamp to be. In my past time, I love to decorate and I have decorated my room to be my perfect design space. I wanted it to conform to this and be a perfect new element.

M A T E R I A LBefore I started I wanted to utilize a project that I had done in the past. I wanted to re-use some wire flowers that I had made, however, after using wire I came to the conclusion that material was just to tough to make a circle. After looking around, I made a sound decision that I wanted to make my form out of wood. I found a wreath of sticks that were already formed into circles. At that point I just started to layer each other around one another to make a circular form. After that I used spray paint to cover it in white giving it that modern look. I wanted to mix media as well and bought some pre-made flowers to add around the lamp fixture to give it my rustic look that I was going for.

P R O C E S SBefore beginning this project, I wanted to draw out what the end result would look like, however, my lamp fixture turned out nothing like what I had started with, hence reiteration and refinement.

Like stated before, I bought three materials, a stick wreath, flowers, and white matte spray paint. I began by unwrapping the stick wreath and layering the stick on top of one another to make a round sphere. At that point, once finished, I spray painted it white to give it a modern look that I was going for. I utilized those flowers to give it more texture than it already had and by making it feminine yet rustic look as well.
