GS Lakshman and Dick Spann were awarded Paul Harris Fellow medallions by Foundation Chair Dave Potter for achieving multiple Paul Harris Status. This is a great honor and I was privileged to help give them their medallions. Our goal this year is to become a 100% Paul Harris club. See Magician Dave Potter to find out how a $250 donation can be turned into a $1000 Paul Harris Fellow Status.

Last weekend Jim Edwards installed furniture at the Homeless Shelter on behalf of Lancaster West Rotary. This was part of an International Reverse Grant request made by Past International Chair GS Lakshman. This $20,000 reverse grant project includes $5000 to the Boys and Girls Club for Kitchen Equipment, $5000 to Desert Haven for computer equipment and $10,000 to the

This Monday we will be having Gina Rossall and Lauri Massari from the Westside School District speak on their anti-bulling program. This program recently received national recognition and Lancaster West Rotary was a proud sponsor. This is a program you don’t want to miss. Guest eat free in November so bring someone who is interested in becoming a Rotarian. See you on Monday. Hasta Luego, El Presidente, Gus Camacho

The strength of the anti-bullying program, according to counselor Lauri Massari, lies in student involvement. Massari, an educator with nearly 30 years of experience, launched the program at Del Sur Middle School last year. She tapped students in her True Leaders program, which focuses on peer instruction. “Kids create change on campus, not adults,” she says. “Kids create the culture that’s important to them.” Westside Union School District superintendent Regina Rossall attributes this to the “change of culture relative to bullying.” Prior to the program’s implementation, Rossall said many students overlooked how critical bystanders are in perpetuating bullying. The program helped students understand they were condoning bullying by not responding and how they could be part of the solution.

Rotarian spotlight- Rotarian of the Week

Ingrid was born The Hague, Holland, on February 5th. has lived in the Antelope Valley for 21 years and California for 43. Ingrid has a B.A Degree from UCLA in Theatre Arts/Communications. She is a Self-employed - Owner/Partner Chapman Communications for the past 9 years. Ingrid is married to Gary. Favorite; Vacations: Europe - esp. Holland, England, etc. Enjoy cruising - and loved Alaskan Cruise. Color: Ilove all colors. One favorite might be red. Movie: Many favorites Currently one of my favorites is AVATAR - loved the message. Food: Love just about all ethnic food! Big on sushi! Sports: Ice Skating, Dance, and love watching Olympics Hobbies: I love creating new events for our community. I like the "girlie events" such as Women's Conferences and fashions shows. I also love participating in our community's bigger events, such as the AVBOT Outlook Conference. Personally, I love to cook and wish I had more time to do that. I like walking Bailey, our corgi and riding with Gary on his Harleys. And I love to travel and will do more of that one of these years! What motivates you on a daily basis? That I have the opportunity to participate fully in this life of ours and make a difference to others. Ultimately to hopefully leave the world just a little better place for those who come after us. What are you most passionate about? I want to eradicate abuse to children, animals and our earth. In its place, I hope ne day we can all have RESPECT for children, each other, all animals and our earth.

Why did you become a Rotarian? For the reasons above. Because together we work to make our community a better place for all. To give back. And have fellowship at the same time. Great combination! Why would you recommend the Lancaster West Rotary Club to prospective new members? Because it's a wonderful way to work together for our community, to give back - and have fun together all at the same time. It is a wonderful thing to be part of such a unique and wonderful group of people. What is the key to success in business? Integrity. Always be 100% honest to/with your clients, your co-workers and all you work with. Make sure that there is a win-win-win for all concerned. Do what you say you will do and always go above and beyond. Last - love what you do.
