directory until it was taken over by the Association in 1982 - the same year thatdues went from $2 to $5. Single men could now be members for $3! By 1985, 11years after the initial meeting, there were 2,760 residents, and 500 members. To see how Landlovers has evolved, I was interested to read "every year we arereminded that Landlovers is not a fund-raising organization"!! And now, in 2019, ohyes we are!! We have a rich heritage. New Neighbors focuses on a lot of the "welcoming" thatLandlovers used to do for new residents, and now Landlovers grants, scholarshipsand community merit awards mean that our mission has expanded to includefinancial support for "enriching the community we love." To fund our philanthropic efforts we count on your participation. Games day was awonderful success. Thanks to Susan Danner and her great team for addingsignificantly to our coffers and providing a fun time for our members. If you're agolfer, there is still time to buy a raffle ticket for the Skyway Capital MarketsPro-Am and become the most popular person in your golf group when you win andpick your foursome!! And now it's on to the Flea Market...Please plan to donate all those treasures youno longer need - they may even end up at Auctionmania!! It does indeed "take avillage", and many hundreds of volunteers to make this large undertakingsuccessful...Last year we took in over $50,000 before expense...In 1988 it wasabout $5,000. As the expression goes we've "come a long way baby"! Let's keepthe momentum going as we build community and move through our 45th year.Thank you for all you contribute to making Landlovers the great organization thatit is. Share our good news with your friends and neighbors who aren't members. They don't know what they are missing! See you 'round the island, Wyndie Eberle
