Mis. Khajuraho Minerals Pvt. Ltd., Chhatarpur has applied for grant of
mining lease over 10 ha area in Compartment no. P-316, Forest Block-Ghura - "A",
of Forest Range- Jatara, Forest Division -Tj\(aM(;\ARH ;: M.P.)

lease to the lessee. The area being forest land, approval under Section-2 of FCA
1980 is mandatory. A letter of intent communicating precise area has been issued by
the State Government vide letter No.- 2-157jiiji2ii Bhopal Dated- 20.09.2011 for
taking forest approval under Section-2 of FCA 1980 and hence is appiying for
diversion of the forest land under Section -2 of FCA 1980 for non forest use. The
applicant requires the said M.L. for consumption of minerals in modern refractory,
pesticides, rubber, paint, cosmetics, soap, detergents and handicraft industries.
Diaspore is used for manufacture of high alumina bricks to curtail the imports,
Ceramic being the basic ancillary to the steel industry. India needs increasing
amounts of these minerals. Besides the applicant also intends to use the mineral in
own captive industry proposed to be setup.
LAND RECLAMATION :-
Since land resources are limited and scarce, the degraded land is
proposed to be reclaimed and made fit for reuse. The reclaimed land is proposed to
be revegetated. The fertility of the soil would be improved by application of suitable
fertilizer/me nu res.
The major part of the lease area i.e. mineable area will be backfilled
which will be started after mining the total depth of mineralization. After back filling,
the reclamation progress would commerce. During mining a reversal in the sequence
of beds may take place which can be systematized by proper reclamation planning.
This could be done during actual operation by closely monitoring the situation.
TECHNICAL RECLAMATION :-
The OBI waste generated during the course of mining will be
backfilled and leveled. The courser material vvil! be filled first and then finer materia!------
will be put on it. The soil will be filled in the holes dug for. plantatlcn. The leveled
area will be divided in to plots of one hects. separated by 3 m\ wide roads. A series of
bunds will hold water and facilitate removal of suspended solid. The side slopes of
the internal dump, would also be flattened.
BIOLOGICAL RECLAMATION :-
On the top of the ieveiied area once the plots are reaov. area would be
afforested. Pits 30-50 cm dia and about 50 cm deep would be dug. Depending on the
type of the soil and type of plant species the interval between the pits would be filled
with' a mixture of soil and manure. sapp!ings would then be planted at the
commencement of monsoon. As far as practical watering arrangement during dry
season would be provided.

The topography of the appl ied area is hilly. The backfilling will be done in
such a way that a levelled surface is maintained at the end.

Reclamation will start simultaneously along with thernining operations.
Reclamation will start after complete exhaustion of the mineral, as per programme given
below:-

FINANCIAL OUTLAYS:-
The roral investment of land reclamation will be' divided into two
components
(a) Technical reclamation :-
This includes simultaneous backfilling of waste and soii by labour, levelling
and grading of the ground, making side slopes, contour paths etc.
(b) . Biologica! rec!amation :-
Biological reclamation cost includes preparation of the ground, cost of sapplings
its plantation and maintenance for five year and fencing around the plantation
The total applied area of 10.O hects. will be afforested out of this mineable area is
9.00 hects. and balance 1.0 Heets. is barrier zone. Reclamation will only be
required in 9.00 Hects. applied area.

COST OF RECLAMATION AND PLANTATION :-
(a) Technical Reclamation :-
(i) Simultaneous backfilling of soil/waste :-
This will be done by labour force in support of excavator cum loader!
scrapper simultaneously in 9.00 hects. About 6,00,000 m' of soil/waste
will be backfilled.

BIOLOGICAL RECLAMATION :-
(i) Preparation of ground :-
This includes marking of pits of size 30cm x 50 em and during diggjng 20,000
pits (Avg.) in 10.0 hects. 100 man days will be required for marking the position
of the proposed pits hence cost.
100 man days x 150 = 15000/-
Cost of digging of 100 pits =Rs. 50001-,Hence 20,000 pits in 10.0 heets will
cost 5000 x 200 = Rs. 10,00,000 t..hence cost in preparation of pits in 10.0 hects.

(ii) Cost of sappling and its plantation :-
Sappl ing will be purchased from nursery. The cost of above factors includes cost
of tress, application of fertile soil and manures, plantation of trees, application of

To maintain the ecological balance and nature, land reclamation and
afforestation is obligatory. A significant awareness has been generated
on environment and reclamation of land is being adopted and has gained momentum.
Since land is a basic resource, the reclamation of land has been considered as a part of
mining system and the applicant after grant of mining lease will take ali after cares to
protect the trees and monitor the implementation of the programme.
