Chatters Term 2 Week 4
Principal’s Report
Thursday 21 May 2020
Return to School
On Monday 25 May we look forward to welcoming students back to school 5 days a week. Students will
follow the same routines they did before the COVID-19 pandemic.
I have had a few parents ask about choosing to delay their child/ren returning 5 days a week. The
following applies:
1. Students with a compromised immune system can continue to learn remotely from home.
2. All other students are expected to resume schooling 5 days a week.
3. Some parents are requesting to keep child/ren at home due to illness with other family members-you
will need a medical certificate to be marked as ‘F’ flexible.
4. No medical certificate, students will be marked as unjustified absence.
I would like to make it clear that as a school we respect the decision making of parents, the decision to
mark students as unjustified absent is from the Department of Education.

There is also a COVID-19 poster that may be helpful attached at
the end of this edition of Chatters.
Social Distance, especially Adult to Adult
Maintain social distancing by avoiding gathering inside or outside the school gates.
If possible, please use car drop off and pick up zones on Cullen St and Avalon Ave to minimise the
number of adults on school site and around the gates.
After morning drop off or afternoon pick up, leave school grounds immediately to minimise adult to
adult contact.
National Consistent Collection of Data for Students with Disabilities
This term the learning and support team will be working with classroom teachers to collect data on the
students who are receiving adjustments to meet additional learning and support needs. All government
and non-government schools are required to take part in the data collection. This data will be provided
to the Australian Government to assist in the development of a consistent, national picture of the
education needs of students with disability. The information collected is to help teachers, principals,
education authorities and families to better support students with disability to take part in school on the
same basis as students without disability.
Semester 1 Reports – Modified Version
All staff are currently working on Semester 1 Academic Reports which will be sent home on Friday 24
July. If your child/ren have enrolled at our school in Term 2, an Interim Report will be sent home.
Library – Next Week
At the end of Term 1, students borrowed
additional library books to read over the holidays.
We need all books returned next week. There will
be tubs left outside the library, please place books
in the tubs. The books will remain in tubs for 24
hours before being returned to the shelves.
Borrowing will recommence in Week 6.
Borrowed Laptops
We had many students borrow laptops from the school to support
the remote learning that took place. As students are returning full-
time next week the school will need these devices returned. If your
child/children borrowed a laptop could you please send the laptop
with charging cable to school with your child/children on Monday.
To minimise parents coming to the office, students are to keep the
laptop in their bag and a teacher will come around, once school
begins, to the classrooms and collect the laptops.
Medication
If you have not already, please return any medication, Epipens, health care plans or any other medical
information that the school needs to be aware of that may have been taken home at the end of Term 1.
Please provide this to the school office on Monday morning and please respect social distancing during
this time.
Parent Volunteers
At last night’s P&C meeting, parents were asking how they can help during the COVID-19 pandemic. A
fantastic suggestion was made: a parent on each gate from 8.55-9.25am providing hand sanitiser to stu-
dents and adults as they walk onto school grounds. If you are a parent with some time and would like to
help out, please email the school and we will put together a roster for at least the next two weeks.
2021 Kindergarten Enrolment Packs now available
Please let your friends and neighbours know that 2021 Kindergarten enrolment packs are now available
from the school office.
Emergency Contacts
If your child is unwell at school we will be calling you to pick your child up immediately. If we are unable to
reach a parent we will be calling the listed emergency contacts.
Late last year we sent home with each family their contact details including emergency contact to be
checked and updated if needed. If there has been a change since then, please email the school office
ASAP with your updated details. Be sure to clearly state your child's name and class in the email.
