Chatters Term 3 Week 8
Principal’s Report
Thursday 10 September 2020
Genes for Jeans Day
Thank you to everyone who participated in Genes for Jeans
day yesterday. Together we raised $1,014 to support the
work of scientists at Children’s Medical Research Institute.
Staffing Update
Congratulations to Ms Natalie Callan who has been seconded to Department of Education State Office in
the position of Policy Coordination Advisor for the next 3 years. Ms Freya Halford will continue to relieve
as Assistant Principal for Stage 1 for the remainder of 2020. Ms Jacqui Bramwell will continue teaching 1C
for the remainder of the year.
Sadly, we will be farewelling two of our permanent teaches at the end of this year. Mrs Alix Campbell and
Ms Candyce Harding have both been successful in securing transfers to Rouse Hill PS and Epping Heights
PS. Although it is a loss to our school, it will mean that both ladies are closer to home, commuting less
allowing for more time with their young families. We wish them both well in their future career in
education.
We will work with Human Resources to fill the permanent positions for the commencement of the 2021
school year.

This week’s Smiling Mind focus is ‘’Self-
compassion.
Learning intention: To foster self-compassion
and develop skills to manage difficult thoughts,
emotions or experiences.
Class Placement Requests 2021
Whilst it may seem rather premature, we begin the process of allocating class placements for 2021 early
in Term 4. This is because we have many different options for class structures to consider. While staff are
aware of most situations that may impact on class placement, there are always circumstances or
concerns that you as parents have a greater awareness of. For this reason, I would ask that if you have
any MAJOR concerns about your child’s class placement for 2021, can you please send a letter outlining
your concerns in an envelope marked ‘Confidential: Attention School Principal’.
Please do not request a particular teacher for your child. I would like to remind all parents that any
decisions relating to class teachers are based on a range of school factors, taking into account the staffing
mix available each year and whilst each request is considered we are not always able to guarantee all
aspects of requests.
If you would like to discuss your child’s class placement personally, please make an appointment to see
Mr Thomson or Mrs Weston through the school office or school email.
Planning for 2021
The start of each school year can be run more efficiently for students, parents and teachers if the school
knows how many students will be returning in the new year. This not only affects the number of classes,
but also the number of teachers allocated to the school by the Department of Education. Parents who are
planning on withdrawing their child/ren from Lane Cove West PS at the end of the 2020 year, can you
please advise the school office at your earliest convenience.
Kindergarten 2021
In the current environment, we are unable to confirm what Kindergarten Orientation will look like in Term
4. We are hoping COVID restrictions will ease; however, we will not know this until Term 4 commences. We
will further communicate with families in the first week of Term 4 to confirm what Kindergarten
Orientation will look like.
Until then, please visit our Kindergarten page on the school website where you can find videos to help
orientate your child to the school, gain an understanding of what happens in Kindergarten and also helpful
links to the school uniform shop and after school care.

Crazy SoX-Country Day
Last Friday we had some very excited children who came to school dressed in their house colours wearing
some crazy socks. Due to COVID, unfortunately we were unable to host our usual 3-6 Cross Country Day so
instead we decided to have a whole school fun Crazy SoX-Country Carnival. Each stage had their own
separate course around the school. Year groups came out one by one throughout the day. Ribbons were
awarded to the top 3 boys and girls in each class as well as certificates for Sportsmanship and the Best
Dressed. The day ran smoothly and there were many reports from all staff of children laughing and having a
great time.
Congratulations everyone! Coach Brown
Littlescribe and Royal Far West Charity
Stage 2 have been utilising the Littlescribe platform to write and publish books this year. This term, our
focus has been on writing ‘My Life Story’. The ‘My Life Story’ aspect of the Littlescribe program allows our
students to write about their own life and experiences with an authentic audience in mind by connecting
and sharing their stories with country schools that have been affected by bushfire and drought. Littlescribe
has partnered with the charity organisation Royal Far West to connect schools together. All schools
involved in the ‘My Life Story’ program will have the opportunity to share stories with students across
Australia and exchange unique perspectives through the online library. We have been connected with two
country schools to share our stories with each other; Manildra PS and Cobargo PS.
Cobargo PS
Cobargo Public School is on the Far South Coast of NSW and has an enrolment of around 70 students K–6.
The school is a caring place where strong values of respect, responsibility and caring whilst learning are the
core values. The school's vision statement is to maximise individual potential in the academic, creative,
sporting and cultural spheres in a caring and supportive environment. In a town so badly affected by the
recent devastating bushfires, Cobargo Public School plays a significant role within the community.
Manildra PS
Manildra Public School is a school of 3 classes K-6, situated 40 minutes’ drive from Orange and Parkes in
NSW. The students come from families based in the township of Manildra and from farms and surrounding
districts. Manildra is home to the largest flour mill in the southern hemisphere and a canola mill and plays a
vital role in the town, especially in regards to employment. Manildra Public School aims to provide a centre
of learning where excellence, high achievement and creativity enable students to contribute to the global
community.
If you would like to make an obligation free charitable donation to support these schools and their
communities, please head to https://royalfarwest.catalyser.com/ and click on either Cobargo PS or
Manildra PS to make a donation. Your donation will: help country children cope in their situation through
connecting writing, cultivate empathy between country and city students and provide immediate and long
term support.

Calling the school
Please use the telephone in case of emergency only. The best way to communicate with a teacher or other
member of staff is via a note sent with your child or by sending an email to the school email. Your
classroom teacher is the initial point of contact if you have any questions or concerns, but as stated above
any urgent matters should be emailed directly to the school.
Keep in mind it is not always possible to get a phone message to your child’s class, particularly towards the
end of the day. Make sure they know each morning how they are getting home and what they should do if
they are feeling uncertain.
Reporting absences
The Skoolbag app is the preferred method for reporting your child’s
absence for the day. Attached to the end of Chatters is a reminder of how
to download and use the app.
If for some reason you decide to email the class teacher directly, keep in
mind that if your child’s teacher is away from school that day, the
message may not make it through. If a teacher is off site due to training
or sickness they are not required to check their email.
For this reason all emails should be send to the school’s address clearly
stating your child’s name and class.
Borrowed Clothes
If your child has borrowed clothes from the school, please wash and return them as soon as possible. It is
also a good idea to have a spare pair of underpants and long pants or stockings packed in your child’s bag in
case they have an accident at school.
Merit Awards
When your child has received five merit awards, they can hand them in at the office to be issued with a
Gold award. Once your child has five Gold awards, they then hand them in to receive a Banner. All awards
are presented fortnightly.
Please take good care of your awards as lost ones will not be reissued!
No Nuts
Please ensure that you do not send any nuts or food containing nuts to school with your child. We have
children at the school who could have a potential life threatening allergic reaction. Choose alternative
sandwich spreads to peanut butter and Nutella. Inform your child that these foods can trigger an
anaphylactic reaction. Please also remind your child not to share food with their friends.

Dear Parents,
School photographs are scheduled to be taken by advancedlife. Whilst an envelope and flyer will be distributed shortly, if possible it is our preference that ordering be completed online to reduce administration and potential security issues related
to the return of cash and envelopes on photo day.
Orders for packages and sibling photographs can be placed securely online at www.advancedlife.com.au using our school’s
unique 9 digit advancedorder code. Portrait and group package orders are due by photography day.
Should you wish to purchase a sibling photograph online, the order must be placed no later than the day before photography
