Levels 1 and 2Levels 1 & 2 take students through the basics of ASL. Students are taught the manual alphabet, numbers, and basic fundamentals of signing. Basic vocabulary is learned. The instructors introduce Deaf culture and its development in the United States. Students experience hands-on use of ASL by interacting with the instructor and each other.
Levels 3Level 3 continues to expand ASL skills. Deaf culture and its relationship to sign language is more closely examined. Through interaction with members of the Deaf community, various language styles are experienced. For students who complete all 3 levels and are interested in learning more, CCDHH will provide resource lists for further development opportunities.
About the Instructors:ASL instructors who are fluent ASL signers teach all of our community education classes. They have strong ties to the Deaf community and Deaf culture. Instructors enable students to learn about the diversities and challenges faced by members of the Deaf community.

American Sign Language (ASL) is a language just like French, Spanish or English. It takes time to learn and even longer to master. The Community Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CCDHH) provides three levels of ASL courses that feature progressive language and comprehension, as well as the opportunity to interact with other students and practice the language.
This is NOT an Interpreter Training Program. However, successful completion of these classes will provide you with a strong, conversational knowledge of ASL. (Individual instruction is also available to meet specific needs of individuals.)
All classes are 2 hours each and held once a week for 8 weeks for a total of 16 hours of instruction.
