Coming for an extended stay to Sun Park and staying more than just for a few weeks of the year is a real treat. Adjusting to the quality of life you will experience here at Sun Park really is a dream come true, and you don’t have to break your ties with friends and family back home: so you can literally have the best of both worlds.

Whilst you’ll find Sun Rockers of various nationalities here, ours is an English-speaking community. Of course, if you speak a little Spanish that’s terrific, but there’s no need to learn a new language to enjoy all the benefits of being a Sun Rocker - and even when you venture out into the wider community you’ll find English is widely spoken in shops, restaurants, doctors’ surgeries and other places you might visit.

The WeatherIt’s sometimes assumed that summers here are blisteringly hot; in fact, the weather is fairly consistent all year round thanks to an Atlantic breeze that keeps things comfortable. Winters are mild, (with an average daytime temperature of 18oC / 64oF) whilst summers are warm (averaging 25oC / 77oF). Lanzarote gets an average of just 22 days rain per year.

Your Prized PossessionsIf you’re staying more than a couple of weeks, you’ll probably want to bring some of your home comforts with you. Perhaps your favourite pictures and personal decorative items or even furniture, if you are staying longer. The good news is that your possessions can be kept safe and secure in Sun Park’s free long-term storage after you leave.

The community now hosts a selection of activities, both for the active and not-so active. Art & craft classes, bridge night, tennis club, walking & trekking group are just some of the in-house activities. Guests also go out on numerous day trips to many of the interesting attractions on the island (see p10-11). The top golf course on the island is only 30 minutes away.

Sun Park offers safety, security and a ready-made group of friends and companions with whom you can share your next adventure! The Sun Rockers Community organises a wide range of events and activities to satisfy all tastes and energy levels!

It’s a great way to stay active, make new friends, discover new interests and even rediscover old ones! Our regular evening events include movie nights when, at least once a week, residents gather in the Marigold Bar to watch one of the latest releases, or sometimes a favourite ‘classic’.

LIVING About Sun Park

Lanzarote offers a true European lifestyle at affordable prices, and Sun Park builds on this with year-round value-for-money self-catering and self-serviced accommodation.

There are no contracts or hidden surprises, and all bills are included in the price: utility bills, wear-and-tear maintenance, basic WiFi, basic satellite TV, long-term storage and on-site parking (excludes travel, meals, laundry, and daily personal assistance services). Stays at Sun Park are based on per apartment per week or day, and, for those who truly wish to join the community as long-term residents, a fixed and affordable rate is available.

Just a short walk from Sun Park is the wonderful town of Playa Blanca. With golden beaches, a plethora of shops and restaurants and a busy harbour offering daily foot passenger return trips to our neighbouring island of Fuerteventura. Venturing into the heart of the island, you’ll find stunning volcanic landscapes, picturesque mountaintop views, and quaint ‘old-Spanish’ towns – see our Out and About section on p10 for more places to visit.

Standard Apartments offer all the essentials you’ll need, including complimentary bed linen, cooking utensils, kettle, toaster, microwave combo, fridge/freezer and 2-plate hob, and TV. You are free to add as many personal items as you wish, and even equip your apartment with additional items to make your stay as comfortable as you like.

Deluxe Apartments offer greater comfort to your stay. They have a walk-in shower, a brand new kitchen-diner with complimentary essentials such as cooking utensils, kettle, toaster, coffee machine, microwave combo, fridge/freezer, full oven, and a flat-screen TV.

Sun Park is a beautiful resort with picturesque gardens, shaded walkways and tempting swimming pools. All apartments enjoy sunshine virtually all day, with no adjacent buildings to restrict the sun or the views. They all overlook the gardens and pools and most ground floor apartments have the added bonus of a small front garden and additional space at the back, where you can have your own shed or private sitting area for extra space to relax in.

Residents can take advantage of a wide range of facilities and amenities, including: BBQ area, community bar, complimentary Wi-Fi in public areas, in-house UK tv and movie channels, lounge reading area, mini golf, pools and gardens and tennis court. There is also a laundry room, luggage store and on-site supermarket ‘A Little Bit Bazar’. The gym and art room are a haven for the active and the creative.

A popular spot to meet and socialise is the coffee shop in our lounge area. Serving teas, coffees, cold drinks and snacks; and with a terrace offering views across the complex, it’s a great place to chat with friends, make plans and while away the hours. The coffee shop is also the focal point for our popular Social Fridays, where residents, would-be residents and the local community gather for a few hours each week.

Plus, we have a fantastic range of activities for mind and body provided on-site by some of our Fabulous Lanzarote friends, including: Yoga, Tai Chi, Reiki, Art classes, massage & aromatherapy.

As well as the wide range of things to see and do, Lanzarote has an awe-inspiring volcanic landscape, a rugged coastline, golden beaches and idyllic year-round climate and so is well-suited for short and long stay holidays.

For the more active, our cycling trips are great for those looking to get a little further afield. The community owns a small collection of bikes which are available to use, and more can be hired very cheaply just a few minutes away.

Feel the wind in your face and enjoy the amazing views! Lanzarote certainly isn’t short of stunning landscapes to explore, and even within just a few minutes of Sun Park there are wide open spaces,

beautiful beaches and impressive mountains to climb by joining one of our walking groups. There is plenty to do and to see on Lanzarote even though it’s a small island. Whether you’re looking for a taste of culture, some natural beauty or a bit of fun. Apart from a spectacular natural landscape and enviable climate, Lanzarote has managed to develop some truly stunning cultural centres, museums and art galleries.

Timanfaya National Park

The Volcano Park at Timanfaya is Lanzarote´s most popular tourist attraction. Every year close to one million people explore this unique lava-scape, home to a sea of colourful dormant volcanoes, following a route originally mapped by the island born artist and architect César Manrique.

Jameos Del Agua

Referred to by César Manrique as ‘the most beautiful nightclub in the world’ and by Rita Heyworth, the legendary Hollywood movie star as ‘the eighth wonder of the world’, the Jameos del Agua is arguably the greatest example of the artist’s work on Lanzarote. A cave? A nightclub? A restaurant? A concert hall. Quite simply, amazing.

Cuevas de los Verdes

The Cueva de los Verdes are part of the same collapsed lava tunnel that forms the Jameos del Agua - a 6km long volcanic tube which was created about 5,000 years ago by the eruption of the nearby volcano Monte Corona. This 2km long underground pathway has been brilliantly lit and houses one of Lanzarote´s best kept secrets.

The Mirador del Rio

Enjoy a real natural high and visit the Mirador del Rio at the northern tip of the island. The Mirador is another amazing Manrique creation and was formerly a naval gun battery. Today however it grants visitors spectacular views down to the small neighbouring island of La Graciosa, whilst boasting all of the usual Manrique design flourishes.

Jardin de Cactus

The Cactus Garden in Guatiza is a celebration of the plant world’s spiniest species and is located in a former quarry in what was once the heart of Lanzarote’s cactus growing country where locals still harvest the cochineal beetle used to create red dye. There are over 10,000 plants and 1,400 different species of cacti to discover here.

César Manrique Foundation

The former home of the famous island born artist and architect has been built over five inter-connected bubbles in the lava flow. This ingenious feat of architecture was Manrique´s first major project on the island and today showcases his many paintings and sculptures as well as the works of contemporaries such as Picasso and Lasso.

In so many ways, Lanzarote is a different world from the UK, with its awe-inspiring volcanic landscapes, rugged coastlines, golden beaches and idyllic climate.

And yet, we’re still part of Spain (and therefore Europe) and English is widely spoken here: making it incredibly easy to settle in and feel at home.

One of the joys of being here is knowing that we’re only a short flight away from most UK and EU airports: and as there are daily flights (via airlines such as BA, Easyjet, Monarch, Ryanair & Thomas Cook) in operation, friends and family are never far away! Most flights from the UK are less than 41/2 hours.

Lanzarote’s airport Arrecife (ACE) is a small airport and it takes only a few minutes to get through passport control, collect your luggage, and emerge into the

sun. And getting here from the airport couldn’t be simpler as we can arrange transfers for your arrival and for your return home.

There are also a range of alternative options, including public transport and taxis and many door-to door shuttle services that will pick you up at the arrivals lounge and bring you right to the doorstep in around 30 minutes. The cost for a shuttle bus service (maximum stops 3) is 20¤ per couple (the larger buses – low cost transfers – are cheaper but take much longer). A taxi takes between 30-45 minutes and will cost 45-50¤ plus tips.

COMMUNITYThe Wider

The Sun Rockers Community is a community within a community.

Whilst the resort is kept private for your privacy and security, we do allow local groups to use some of our facilities - as a way of giving something back to the local people who have helped and supported us.

We are proud to provide a permanent home for the fantastic Lanzarote Mix radio show. Shows are recorded in the purpose-built studio each week, covering a huge range of topics from local events to current affairs. So far over 120 guests (including residents and members of the Sun Park team) have appeared on the show.

Fitness classes and alternative therapy sessions are frequently attended by non-residents. We also have an Art Room on- site that hosts regular classes for residents and non-residents.

Visitors from the wider community are always escorted through the resort to minimise disruption, but we believe that a little bit of ‘outside influence’ can bring positive things to both Sun Park and the Sun Rockers Community.

In addition, we are regularly joined by guests who are part of wider UK and global organisations such as the WI, Rotary Club and U3A. Sometimes these guests come together to organise meetings and events, or simply to share their stories and interests.

Social Fridays are a great way to meet other like-minded grown ups

Sun Park is a private, gated community, available only to residents. However, once a week we open our doors to the wider public to socialise with like-minded active over-50s. Our popular Social Fridays run weekly from 10am until 1pm.

They’re a great opportunity for “would-be Sun Rockers” to meet-and-greet residents, take a tour of the resort and start to soak up the Sun Park atmosphere. And if you’d like to visit us, but aren’t yet ready to commit to staying with us, you can even book any Lanzarote holiday of your choice and pop in any Friday. Social Fridays are a time to do something a little different, and we’re regularly visited by artisanal stallholders selling jewellery, art and other

pieces – plus you’ll often find a selection of musical entertainment lending itself to the atmosphere.
