How We Test and Data1. GraphicsCard

Forthegraphicscard,wedidatestfor

it to get the result. The test was done by

PerformanceTest7.0,whichisanobjectively

benchmark test software. We did theAdvanced 3D Graphics Test to benchmark

howwell the graphicscard performswhen

usingthemostcommonfeaturesofDirextX.

BelowisthetestresultoftheDelllaptop:

HereisthecomparedtestresultofthefourlaptopsofdifferentlevelsofGraphics

3D:

Apparently, from this chartweknewwhen

generate the simple, the quality of the 3D

animation is smooth, but for themiddle level,

theresbigdifferencesamongthosefourlaptops

weevaluated.GatewayandDelldidnt dowell

in the middle 3D graphics test, since the test

animation had pauses, while Toshiba and HP

workedsmoothly.Butnoneofthosedidwellon

thecomplextest.

2. AudioCard

WedidthetestforaudiocardbyRightMark

AudioAnalyzer,itsoneofthebestaudiocard

test software, RMAA uses audio card to testsample signals and then analyze the output

signalstogetaccuratelyperformancedata.

We did and cared more about the Total

harmonic detection and intermodulation

detection + noise, which should be low if the

audiocardisgoodenough.

Above is a screen shot of the RightMark

AudioAnalyzer test results (we did test again,

wedidntusethedatainabovetest)ofthefirst

laptop we evaluated: Dell laptop. Apparently,

theDell laptop didnot good for the high THD

andIntermodulationdetection+noisepart.We

didthistestforallofthefourlaptops.

Onthepreviouspageandabove,thechartare

the test result of the four laptops, and lower

percentage better audio card performance.

There may have some error, since we cannot

make sure that all of the laptop in the same

testing situation, but we tried to insure that

theyareinthesimilarsituation.

Obviously, the old Gateway earned the

highest score of both criteria, and it was true

thatwhenusingthelaptopwecouldeasilyfind

its audiocardnotworkedwell.Asfor the Dell

and Toshiba, thesetwo laptops get the similar

scoreinthemiddle,althoughbothofthemuse

the integrated audio card with similar quality,

theToshibaisbadwhenitsworking,becauseof

its thin design, the when play high-volume

musicbyspeaker,youwillhearsomebuzz.HP

stilldidwellinaudiocard,althoughitalsouses

integratedaudiocard.

3. HardDrive

WedidthetestofharddrivebyHDTunePro

test.TheaboveistheresultofDell,theaverage

transferrateis37.1MB/sisgoodbutnotgreat.

As for the access time, the length of time it

takesthedrivetopositionthedriveheadonthe

platterfortheappropriatefunction,itstoolong

for a5400RPM harddrive,whichthe averagelatency should be5.55,but inour product its

25.5, thats totally bad. The burst rate, the

highestspeedatwhichdatacanbetransferred

from the drive interface to the operating

system, is good for 156.2MB/s that hard drive

really tries hard to transfer data. The average

speed of Toshiba is 50MB/s by the test. This

but the average latency for this computer is

Above is the comparison of the average

speedofharddriveofthefourlaptops,andHP

isstillthewinner.

4.WeightWeusedtheweighing-machinetoweigh

theweightofthefourlaptops,sinceitwas

not accurate; hence we also find some

informationfromtheInternet.

For the comparison, we did the weight

test in the same place with the same

weighing-machines.

itsthinnessandonly13.3,notsurprisefor

screen, but both of them are a little bit

5. HeatThe heat is hard to measure accurately

without thermometer, but some benchmark

software allow us see the temperature of the

CPU, thus, if we located the CPUs position of

the laptop and we could get the higher

temperature. We did the temperature test

whenthelaptopsstartedonehourandwithout
